Emile and Abbey reached their first destination, Mauritius around midday. Having no plan was the best plan. The two best friends decided to chill at the world class hotel they booked into on the first day before getting into touristy mode and booked themselves into an indulgent beauty saloon for a relaxing massage after a sumptuous feast.
The next five days were jam-packed with activities starting a luxurious catamaran cruise of the northern islands. Abbey’s camera lens snapped away at the breath-taking views while Emile immersed herself in the experience. This was her first time travelling away from home, away from comfort zone; She had always lived a protected life with her grandfather and cousins where university was the furthest, she travelled away from home.
Every experience was new and invigorating, opening a whole new world, whether it was admiring the vibrant colors of the ocean or the magnificent mountain views or snorkeling at one of the beaches, diving with Emperor Angelfish, Moorish Idol or the green turtle. She didn’t forget to add designs to her pocketbook from the never ending inspirations of the visual feast.
Next, they decided to book themselves on a two-day picturesque South Tour Of Mauritius but were unable to get the booking due to high demand. They booked the trip for the next day and decided to take it easy strolling the streets to enjoy the local intricacies. Once the day was sorted, they planned to have breakfast at the hotel before heading out and decided to meet at the restaurant.
Emerging out of the elevator, Emile was stunned to see a familiar figure checking out at the reception desk. She walked forward excited to see a familiar face in a foreign land.
“Christopher, it that you?” Emile blurted out in excitement as the figure turned around and hurried to his side.
Christopher’s face blushed with embarrassment, as his eyes darted like a thief caught at the scene of crime but soon covered it up with a cough as he turned to face Emile.
“What a surprise?” Abbey’s shriek came from the side before Christopher had a chance to fully recover his shock of being caught by the two.
“Hi there, you two.” Christopher smiled sheepishly.
“What a coincidence, running into you here?” Abbey smirked as she lifted her eyebrows meaningfully.
“Yeah… what a coincidence considering the odds.” Christopher smirked cheekily, not forgetting to throw a secret glance at Emile.
Christopher’s affection for Emile was no secret at university. Everyone except Emile knew about it. The only reason Emile didn’t know was because she had eyes only for Daniel and Christopher was one of those super nice seniors in her view. She only realized it in her final year when Christopher mustered the courage to confess.
He kept in touch with the duo with hopes that Emile would consider him even after he was rejected till Emile got married. After her marriage he decided to bless her happiness and disappeared into the shadows of her life. Although he never interacted with her after her marriage, every pulse in her life was under his radar. Many a times he had to fight the impulse to kill Daniel and kidnap her from her own nightmare. But this was his secret, one that only his best friend Adrian knew.
“Really cool….” Emile smiled happily as she asked, “Are here on work or vacation?”
“Actually no… I lied.” Christopher pursed his lips as he decided he would come clean.
“Huh?”
“I heard you got divorced and ran away from home.” Christopher rubbed his nose awkwardly and continued “I was too anxious and didn’t check the itinerary closely and came to see if you are alright.”
Abbey had an ‘I knew it’ smirk while Emile was still in a state of confused shock.
“Don’t get me wrong.” Christopher hurried to explain himself “I didn’t think of taking advantage of your situation. I just wanted to make sure you were alright.”
“I figured you were when I saw Abbey was here to give you company and hence decided to go back before getting caught.” Christopher shrugged “A plan that failed with a bang.”
Abbey burst out laughing looking at Christopher’s vexed face while Emile’s face also brightened with a smile.
“No one’s blaming you.” Abbey spoke through intermittent bouts of laughter “Why are you in a rush to defend yourself?”
Christopher scratched the back of his head with an awkward smirk; This was not part of the plan. He was meant to be gone before anyone knew he was here. Forget about anyone knowing, he was caught red-handed by the person he least wanted to know.
“It’s cool.” Emile shrugged trying to ease the awkwardness.
“Are you still leaving?” Abbey raised her eyebrows “If you still have holidays and don’t need to be anywhere else, you can join us considering your stealth mode was an epic failure.”
Christopher laughed awkwardly as he turned to look at Emile. There was nothing he wanted to do more than being with her but only on the premises that she was comfortable.
“Sure… the more the merrier.” Emile laughed lightly although she didn’t forget to give an angry glare towards Abbey who conveniently ignored her.
Abbey had always wanted to matchmaker Emile with Christopher who she thought was more suitable for Emile. Whether it was in terms of looks or social status, both Daniel and Christopher were evenly matched. What tipped Abbey’s scales towards Christopher was his single-minded affection for Emile which anyone could see. What made her even more impressed was the fact that not only did Christopher give his blessings after Emile got married, but he also never changed his mind nor the extent of his affection. Why would she miss an opportunity that fate bestowed?
“Alright then.” Christopher agreed happily and returned to the front desk to proceed with re-checking himself into the hotel. They planned to meet at the entrance once he settled down and went to get breakfast.
Although Emile felt a little awkward in the beginning, the bustle of the streets and Christopher’s mannerism of not giving her any pressure soon eased her awkwardness. The ladies had a fantastic time of going crazy and Christopher became the designated porter.
“What are we doing for dinner?” Abbey asked happily as they decided to put an end to Christopher’s misery.
“Anything that doesn’t need me to walk another inch.” Emile grumbled although there was a satisfied expression on her face.
“How about barbeque?” Christopher asked as he thought about the place, he had dinner yesterday. The small street-side stall was recommended by the hotel concierge and had lived up to the hype.
“Anything will do.” Abbey made an exaggerated expression as she rubbed her tummy “I am starving; I could eat a lion.”
Emile nodded in agreement; She wanted to experience the local cuisine and what better way than street-side stalls?
Luckily for the three, the dinner rush hadn’t started, and they quickly found a quiet corner and ordered to their heart’s content.
“Luck is on our side.” Christopher laughed as he told the ladies how he didn’t manage to get a spot to sit when he came yesterday and had to head back to his hotel room with the takeaway container.
“This is delish…” Abbey mouthed as she ate her first bite.
“Ummm…” Emile agreed as she concentrated on eating. Both Emile and Abbey were absolute foodies, and nothing could divert their attention once there was food. Even so, Abbey didn’t forget to remind Christopher to book the tour for tomorrow if he wanted to join them.
Dear Readers, Apologies... I have not been able to upload for the past few days due to being down with flu. Hope you enjoy reading as much as I enjoyed writing. Happy reading :)
Michelle came to Daniel's office after shopping to her heart's content and accompanied Daniel outside for dinner to celebrate his freedom. Later she took him to her place and told him that they would stay here for the time being. Daniel didn't have any objections and assumed that she was considering his feelings, knowing that he wasn't ready to go back there. On the fourth day, as Daniel was getting ready to go to work, she informed him that they would move back that day. "Danie Baby, I will pack and move in the afternoon. You should come back early." She twirled her fingers on his chest "I will be waiting." "Why are we moving so soon?" Daniel was stumped. She didn't ask him if he was ready to go back. No matter how you looked at it, he had lived there with Emile for 2.5 years, on their own. Even if he swore, he didn't have any thoughts towards her, he would be lying through his teeth if he said that there were no instances when he wasn't tempted or moved. "Why?" Michelle pouted a
Daniel reached back at the villa around 6pm; The chat with Ron helped resolve his dilemma. He managed to convince himself that he knew what he wanted and there was no need to be confused.Michelle was watching television in the lounge room when he arrived.“Your back.” Michelle smiled happily as she saw him and hopped into his embrace but soon wrinkled her nose “You drank?”“Just a social meet.” Daniel smiled as he hugged her “Were you bor…” He didn’t complete what he was about to say as he was shocked by the interior. It had totally changed.“Do you like it?” Michelle smiled mischievously as she looked at his face waiting for his approval. Sadly, the approval never lit up on his face. What Michelle didn’t know was that although this was the wedding house that Grandpa Holston gifted Daniel and Emile, Daniel had personally designed it as it was always meant to be his and Michelle’s house in his mind. The only place he asked Emile’s input was the guest bedroom, even the kitchen was desi
The same time, many miles away in Mauritius-Emile, Abbey and Christopher spent the next two days exploring the the magical volcanic rain forest landscapes of southwest Mauritius. Whether it was the Trou Aux Cerfs which is the famous dormant volcano or the Mare Aux Vacoas, a reservoir embedded deep in the forest or the Grand Bassin which is the sacred lake of Mauritius, it was a magical experience for trio. Abbey didn’t forget to capture each beauty through her camera lens. Emile’s favourite was the Chamarel waterfall and the 7 coloured earth. While most people in the tour group went for a swim in the pool at the foot of the Chamarel waterfall, Emile sat scribbling her inspirations onto her notepad. Christopher sat by her side accompanying her quietly. Both Emile and Abbey were exhausted after the two-day trip and spent the next day lazily planning what to do next. Christopher left the planning to the ladies and spent the day catching up with all the documents and issues pending at h
Christopher sat at his desk trying to calm his mental faculties as he ended the call. He had no idea why Emile wanted to talk but he was sure it wouldn’t be anything good. He hoped that this wouldn’t be the last conversation they had. He didn’t wish for much. He was happy to stand behind and watch her smile. He hoped to heavens that he wouldn’t be denied that right. As he thought of the many reasons for ‘Can we talk’, a face flashed by his mind’s eye. He clenched his fists as he thought of whether the reason was Daniel. Were they going to reconcile? He sighed deeply as his lips curled up in a derogatory smile. Although he felt a painful tug in his heart, he realized that it didn’t matter as long as she was happy!Reigning his thoughts that were racing around like mad horses, Christopher left his room to meet Emile at the Café downstairs as they agreed.Emile was waiting at the café downstairs when Christopher came down.“What’s up?” Christopher asked with a calm and casual façade as h
“I, the heiress of Burke industries was reduced to living the life of a lowly prostitute” Emile’s sobs became more heartbreaking “By day, a tool to vent his anger and by night, a tool to douse his sexual needs. In society, I became a joke, a notorious woman who used despicable means to steal a husband but incapable of keeping him; who was not even worth mentioning in front of an evening partner of my husband.”“I had to stop work and cut-off contacts with all my friends…. Living my nightmare day in and day out, without even knowing the charge I was guilty of.”“Every day from then on was a living hell till 2 months ago when Michelle came back.” Emile managed say these words between sobs.Christopher’s knuckles were white from being clenched; the veins on his temples bulging from anger. Although she hadn’t used so many words to explicitly say what she went through, hearing the pain in those
Emile seemed to have been suck in a vortex, relieving the moments from six months ago. She knew that she should get as far away from the vortex as possible… but she couldn’t; It seemed like someone pushed her in… into her worst nightmare! She was sitting at her desk chatting with her Grandpa’s photograph. This was a habit she developed ever since Grandpa passed away. Whenever she had something pressing on her mind, she would sit at her desk talking as she stared at a picture of her Grandpa’s picture. He had a serene amiable smile that it would calm her mind and somehow had the magic to put her worries back in her stomach. That day, was no different from any other except that it was his death anniversary and she had just lighted a candle and was offering a remembrance prayer when Daniel barged in –“You witch….”“Daniel???” Emile stood up in shock. He had never been rude towards her in all these years; moreover, they seemed to have been getting on well these past months. He had even to
Emile had just turned to face Daniel and didn’t expect the kick; She fell backwards onto the shards as she tried to balance herself.“Ahhhaaa…” Emile cried out in pain. Blood seeped out through the cuts onto her dress, but Daniel didn’t seem to have noticed this and dragged her back onto the bed as he forced her. He didn’t seem to hear her rejection nor her screams of being in pain. He didn’t stop until she couldn’t hold on any longer and fainted.Daniel looked at Emile in disgust as he tidied his clothes and walked out of the room without a second glance just like last night. He didn’t even bother to cover her with a blanket.Daniel left early the next morning as he had a meeting with overseas delegates without even giving Emile a second thought.Alice was surprised to see that Emile had not made breakfast again. She wondered if the young lady had become enlightened. She didn’t understand
Emile heaved a sigh of relief as she noted that Daniel was not at home. She had no idea why he turned into the devil but after two days of torture, she was truly afraid of him. She decided to send Alice back as she had been at hospital taking care of her and didn’t have time to go home. Alice cooked a few light meals for Emile and left after changing the dressing for the wound on Emile’s back since she couldn’t convince Emile. She knew the young lady had her best interests at heart and didn’t argue further. In the afternoon, after eating the meal that Alice had prepared, Emile ate her medicines and was about to head upstairs when she heard the door opening. She froze in fear not knowing what to do. She didn’t want to see Daniel if she could help it but fate wasn’t so kind. Daniel walked into the lounge room and saw Emile standing with her back facing him. He didn’t know what happened to him, every time he saw her, it was like anger would explode like a volcanic eruption. “Decided
