Lydia watched as the man came closer to her. With every step he took, she shook in fear of getting closer to her death. She had sent her ex-best friend a message to take care of her only daughter, Khloe. The best thing to do was to end it all, She was tired of this life. After all, that was what George wanted as well.
When Carson walked closer to her, he frowned,
'isn't this the same lady from the hospital?' He asked himself. Looking at Lydia, he said calmly,
“Get down”
This only made her hold on to the rail behind her tightly. She was on the other side of the rail, standing at the very edge of the bridge.
“No!” She replied stubbornly. Her eyes held a faraway look, her lips quivering as she began to say,
“You don't know what I've been through. My life is a living hell. I just want to die, I just want to die!” She screamed. Her hair and hospital gown flew as the wind led them. The sound of water underneath them.
Carson raised his hands in surrender, “I really would have loved to watch you die, but apparently, I can't." Not only was she owing his friend some money, but he didn't want to see the asshole happy that he had finally gotten rid of her.
"It's better you step down from there and think about the next step to take instead of giving yourself to the cold hands of death” he suggested.
As he spoke, he looked directly at her. There is a saying that until you've faced exactly what someone is going through you can never use the statement, I understand. Really, he cannot tell her that he understands because he has never been beaten the way she was. The little he heard from his friend, Nick, was enough to know that the girl had suffered.
“Come down, let me help you” he tried one more time.
The one thing he hated most in his life was suicide. He had lost two important people through suicide. He wondered why, with their eyes open, they would want to kill themselves, but he gradually began to understand that people are facing hell on earth.
“You cannot help me. No one can, that's why I have to leave. I want to die. You won't understand” She gripped the rail tight as she pressed her lips together to stop herself from bursting into tears.
“That's true. It's very true, I do not understand, but can you say the same for your daughter?” Carson asked. He remembered she had been screaming for the asshole to bring her daughter to her.
Lydia snapped her eyes to look at him, and her eyes widened. Then suddenly, her face darkened,
“Who are you? Are you one of George's friends? What do—” he cuts her off.
“I can never be a friend to an asshole that beats women,” he replied casually. He was now very close to her, he stretched his hand to her,
“Come down. Let me help you” he said again but Lydia was adamant.
“No,” she said softly before she screamed, "No! No! I want to die! I want to die!” She screamed louder like some mad woman.
Carson gnashed his teeth, as he tried to reach for her instead of covering his ears. She had stupidly removed her hands from the rails as she screamed, causing her to lose her balance.
“Ahhhh!” She screamed, but Carson grabbed her by the collar of her gown, causing him to hit the rail
“Help me, help me!”
Her hands flew to reach for him, but she couldn't. A chill ran down her spine as she saw death flashed through her eyes.
“Please, please save me,” she begged.
“Why do this the hard way?!?” Carson asked through gritted teeth. He has been pleading with her to come down for a long time now. Why did she have to be so stubborn?
“Oh God, Please don't let me go” Lydia cried louder when she felt the hospital gown tearing down from behind
"Give me your damn hands'' Carson yelled with his heart racing, and Lydia tried to reach for his hand. Their fingers were mere inches away from each other.
“Oh God, I don't want to die, I don't want to die" she cried louder, and it only pissed Carson so much he wanted to slap her mouth shut.
“Shut your damn mouth and give me your hands!" he yelled.
When Carson's hand finally reached her trembling hand, Lydia felt hope build within her again.
Carson hardened his legs against the ground, placing strength there as her weight threatened to drag the both of them into the water below. He locked eyes with her and he saw her vulnerability. His heart ached for her.
Lydia reached for his hand with her other hand as she stared into his Prussian blue eyes. Beads of sweat were seen in their faces, the fear that gripped her could be seen in her face, her eyes. Carson looked at those brown eyes and said,
“You're safe” she nodded and with that, Carson pulled her out, taking her back onto the road. They both fell down on each other, exhausted.
Carson ran his hand through his hair as he tried to catch his breath, the same with Lydia. He didn't seem to mind that she was lying to him right in the middle of the road but was more upset about what had just happened.
“What the hell was that?” He asked through gritted teeth, he was still breathing heavily.
“You may want to die, but I still love my life, okay?” He spat.
“I'm so sorry. I'm deeply sorry” Lydia cried, her heart was still beating fast.
“I didn't mean for it to… I was only…” she tried to speak but choked on her words. Her eyes spilled down hot tears as her lips quiver.
Carson cussed before his hands moved around her waist, wrapping her whole and she cried harder
“Shhhhh…” he stroked her back gently. He hated it when she cried.
“It's alright" he continued to pat her back gently.
After a while, Lydia stopped crying and looked up at Carson. Carson asked with a raised brow,
"Are you done crying?" Lydia pushed herself from him gently and tried to stand.
"Hm, I'm fine now" she replied as they both stood properly.
"That's good" Carson smiled before his face formed a frown as he held the girl's hands behind her back,
"Now young lady, you're under arrest"
"Huh? What?"
“What did I do? Why am I under arrest?” Lydia asked the man with brows furrowed deeply. Carson only continued to pull her towards his car. He had a deep frown as well, he was doing exactly what his friend would have wanted him to do right now. “For trying to kill yourself, of course” he spat as he shoved her into the car and went over to the driver's seat. With every passing moment, confusion continued to envelop Lydia, she stared at him and still could not understand why Carson, who had said she was safe a while ago, was now arresting her. Indeed, no one except Khloé loves her. “When did that become a crime?” She asked as she tried to blink back the tears from flowing down her eyes again. “You'll know soon,” Carson said to her as he dialed his friend's phone number. “She still hasn't been found yet, I swear to God, I'll—” “I found her” Carson cut Nick off. The phone was on speaker, so Lydia could hear their discussion. “You found the girl? My patient?” Nick asked in surpri
Feeling the soft mattress under her, Lydia hummed and moved comfortably on her bed. After a while, she opened her eyes and looked around at the unfamiliar room, and began to wonder where she was. Her body ached, and her stomach grumbled in hunger. Still, on the bed, she began to recall all that happened. She looked around to confirm whether she was in prison or not. A smile formed on her lips, she was so happy that she not only did not die last night, but she also didn't sleep in jail. With a groan, she tried to stand up from the bed when she heard a lady's cry from outside, and she furrowed her brows. She slowly got up from the bed before making her way to the door. She noticed her hospital gown had been changed to a big gown. As she walked she thought, what was she thinking, he must have a wife, and the woman might be having an argument with him right now because he had brought a lady to their house. She needs to clarify things. Slowly, she traced her way to where the noise wa
Lydia watched as a pretty lady walked into the kitchen. She was dressed in black trousers and a sky-blue top, she tucked her top into her trousers. She was looking so pretty that even Lydia could not get her eyes off her. She had the aura of miss gorgeous and her hair was pinned so beautifully. Lydia opened her mouth to speak, but no words seemed to come out of her mouth. She couldn't help but marvel. What she didn't understand is why Carson would lie that he wasn't married when he had such a beauty as a wife. “Marian, you're late,” Carson said with a calm voice. And I noticed he was speaking to the lady. He carried the little boy in his arms as he observed the lady. “I'm sorry, Mr. Carson. The traffic was bad after going to pick up Gary from Grandpa. He made me wait because Gary wanted some cookies from Miranda” she explained so fluently that Lydia kept blinking at how good the girl was.“That's okay if it's for Gary, why not?” He dropped the smiling boy on the counter before as
“Why didn't you do anything?” She asked Carson when Marian was out of sight. She knew if he had asked Marian to give Gary a break, she would have obeyed. “Who else knows how to take care of Gary so well aside from her? She knows the best way to discipline him”. “But…” she paused, but Carson continued to watch her, waiting for her to speak. He could clearly see the displeasure on her face and the pain as well. He wondered how she could feel for someone she had just met. She wanted to cry for a child she had met not even up to an hour ago. Her husband had made her go through hell, yet she was still sweet and caring, he shook his head in wonder. “Good morning, Mr. Carson. Good morning ma'am” An older woman walked into the kitchen. “Good morning ma'am, Anny. This is Lydia, my client. Lydia this is ma'am Anny, my cook and housekeeper”. “Hello, ma'am. Good morning” Lydia greeted with a little bow while Ma'am Anny scoffed, “Call me Anny instead” Although Lydia didn't feel it was righ
After breakfast, as Carson had said it, he made sure Lydia went shopping for a few clothes she could wear instead of wearing big old Ma'am Anny's gowns. Looking at Lydia in the mall, Carson could tell that the woman was scared of selecting the clothes she'll like to buy. He noticed when they stepped into the shop, her eyes caught a beautiful red skirt but when she checked the amount she pulled her hand away so speedily as if the clothes were fire. Taking note of that particular skirt, he gestured for the sales lady to package that particular skirt without her knowing. Lydia kept walking around the shop without picking anything. She was more concerned about the amount of the outfit. After a while, she came to stand in front of Carson, “I don't think they have the kind of clothes I wear, can we go somewhere else?” She asked and he raised his brows,“Are you sure? I mean, there are a lot of outfits here, and I can see they are beautiful. If you didn't like them, you wouldn't look at
“Lydia, hope you are ready?” Lydia heard Carson's voice from the outside as she dressed up.“Will be out in a minute” she yelled, so he could hear her. It was Monday, the day she had been waiting for. She was more than ready, especially when she had stayed days without Khloé. Now she is willing to do anything to get her Khloé.Dressed in a black skirt and blue long - sleeves top, she came out of her room looking different.Carson held his breath when he saw her. He was shocked to see her this smart and beautiful. Since he met her, she had always had a sad and pitiful face on that he wondered how she would be able to act smart in front of George. “I don't need to ask if you're ready anymore” he smiled. He was glad that the bruises and every trace of weariness were out.“I think I'm ready” she replied with a nod. As they began to step out, Lydia asked, “Where is Gary?” “Marian has taken him to school. He should be back home by 12 pm” “Oh,” was all Lydia could say. She would have l
Carson continued to stare at Lydia in awe. He had been scared that he'll have to do with what she can give. He never expected that she'll give this much. She was taking the lead more than he ever expected her to. She kept surprising him, filling him with wonder.Firstly was how she had dressed up so fine and smart, no one will even suspect that she was once beaten into a lump a few days ago. Next, she had held on and waited for him to come before she stepped into the house, even when her daughter was screaming in pain.Another was how she didn't rush to her daughter even when she found her on her knees receiving strokes from her worse enemy. And now she was even speaking so boldly that he wondered if there was any other woman that can beat Lydia when it comes to being courageous.“I ask again, where is George?” Her voice this time held a chill that caused Alma to shiver.“Oh hello, my beautiful wife” George answered from up the stairs as he walked down gently holding Lydia's gaze. Th
“Baby, are you okay? Did they hurt you too much?” Lydia asked as she pulled Khloé into her lap. Khloé only rested her head on Lydia's breast and held her tightly as she hiccuped while Carson quietly drove back home. When they got back home, Carson let them go in and asked Anny to take care of them before leaving the house. He still needed to go to work. “How was it?” Anny asked Lydia, who was staring into space after putting Khloé to sleep. Lydia shook her head as she took the glass of cold water from Anny. “He refused to sign the divorce papers” Her voice broke, and she immediately burst into tears. Anny pulled her into her embrace and she caressed her back. “I… I… I just don't want Mr. Carson to get stressed because of me. I don't even have the money to pay” “It's okay. Carson knew something like this would happen. He knew what was coming and trust me, he is more prepared than you think” Anny tried to comfort her. Lydia could only cry as she thought of what would happen to t
