Chapter 26

Klaus

I was a bit stunned by my father's words. Why was he asking how Nora was still alive? Was she supposed to be dead? My curiosity piqued, and I knew I needed to pry information from him to get a good grasp of what was going on.

"Father? You speak as though she isn't supposed to be alive," I said, hoping he would give me more details.

He glanced up at me and grunted angrily. "She is not supposed to be living, Klaus! She's supposed to be dead."

Bewildered, I took two steps closer to him. "What do you mean?"

He huffed and gritted his teeth. "She was supposed to die that night! I told your brother to finish the job!"

"You mean you asked Kristopher to kill Nora?"

He shut his eyes briefly at the mention of my late twin brother's name.

When he opened them again, I could see hurt register on his face. I bet he probably still remembers that day, the day we found my twin brother's dead body two years ago. It must still be painful, reliving the past memories he shared with him.
