Lorraine's POV
I woke up in a dark, airtight room. A twinge of fear hit my stomach when I realized it wasn't my room.Did I sleep walk after having a nightmare? I asked myself.Stifling a yawn, I rubbed my eyes. It was as if a big elephant was stepping on my eyelids, making it impossible to open themHow did I get here?I can't remember everything that had happened but in the dream… There were some men looking for me and then… just when I was about to die another man stepped in and… did he save me?Abigail? Where's she? Did she make it out? A lot of questions crashed into themselves in my head."Where am I?" I asked myself, widening my eyes to scrutinize the whole room carefully. "Help," I shouted when I finally found my voice but the echo of my voice rang back at me. I blinked several times hoping that all these would be just dreams, a nightmare."Help! Somebody help! Help me!" I wailed at the top of my voice, making sure I was as loud as I could be.I stood up and moved towards the door and began to hit it with my hands, "Somebody help me."Staggering backwards, I looked around, scanning the room one more time. There was a tray containing a bottle of water and some loaves of bread.Suddenly, I began to hear the sounds of footsteps approaching the door and it immediately put an end to my thoughts. I began to tremble backwards.Suddenly, the door opened. A huge shadow stood in the door for a moment. The glint of light was hitting my eyes directly making it impossible to open my eyes and see the man's face. Then he walked inside the room. A young bearded man he was, could be around six feet tall, dressed in a white top with well-fitted jeans. He was followed immediately by a much older man, about the same height, but he had a broader chest. He was in a starched white collar shirt, tucked in blue jeans, his sleeves folded halfway up his arm."Please, don't hurt me. Please, I'm an orphan," I whimpered, begging for mercy. Although I was scared, there was something about the men that made them look harmless. The starched white-collar man stopped walking. From where he stood, he said, "I'm James." Pointing towards his companion, "And this here, my brother, David, " he continued. "You are?"I downed the huge lump of fear in my throat. By now, I could see their faces clearly. I had seen them before but I wasn't sure where I'd seen them before."I told you, James. You should have left this girl in the woods for the vampires to drain the last sip of blood out of her" David snorted, with a grin on his face, "not even a 'thank you for saving my life' huh?" He said, clenching his jaws and fixing his eyes on me."Calm down, Dave. Give her some time.""Is she the girl Ellie spoke about? I don't want to waste precious time with the wrong person," David said, pouting his lips."Yes, she is. That's why I followed her in the first place," James replied, admitting that he had been stalking me throughout the party.I froze, unable to say anything. Who was this Ellie? And what did they mean by am I the girl? What girl are they talking about?Staring blankly at the two brothers, I began to cry, "Please, let me go. I promise not to go to the police. I'll leave this town and never return.""Police? The same police that will get a promotion if any of them is able to kill you?" David said, giggling.I could no longer hide my confusion as my mouth opened to form a big O of surprise. Why would the police want to kill me?"That's it, Dave. I'll do the talking," James frowned. "We won't be hurting you. We just want you to tell us everything you saw in the… ""Otherwise, we will only cut off some of your fingers to feed the dogs since you're so ungrateful. Moreover, James, the dogs are hungry," David interrupted, smiling devilishly.I was struck for a moment. Then I glanced through their faces again and suddenly, I remembered where I'd seen these brothers before. It was at the party last night. The two brothers had arrived at the party in a black Volvo S60 and they had caught everyone's attention with the way they drifted the car as though they got it for free.James! He was the guy who had asked me for a dance. The same guy who kept staring at me.I have never felt this way before. This fear, I couldn't find her voice. My body began to shake as I raised my face to the men's faces again. James turned his head towards his brother, "Dave!" He shook his head in annoyance."C'mon James, I was just having some fun, man," David gave his brother a grin."Forgive my brother's bad attempt at humour," James tucked his hands into the pockets in his trousers, and his face became serious as he began to speak, "We're not here to hurt you…""Well, we won't hesitate if you give us a reason to," David cut through, interrupting him again. James had a friendly smile on his face, his mouth was small, he had a long slim nose, and his eyes were."C'mon Lorraine," I berated to herself. How can I be thinking about his appearance when I don't know if he would jut a knife through me like he did last night to the man in the woods? These two lunatics are trying to make me believe that vampires exist. Hell no!I jolted back to the wall as if to penetrate through it."Please! Let me go home, I'm an orphan, I don't have anyone. I have an assignment to submit today," I pleaded, sobbing slowly. The two brothers broke into laughter at my naivety. Maybe they thought I was drunk too. Then, it crossed my mind. Abigail!"Abigail. Where's she?" I asked, recalling the mayor's words asking his men to kill whoever it was.James squinted, lowering to my level, his hands placed on his knees to support himself. He looked straight into my eyes, his face carried a warm and comfy smile. "What's your name?" He said.I scoffed. Tears were dropping from my eyes. I swear to God, I could not remember what my name was. I knew I had a name, but what was it?"What's your name?" He repeated the question when I didn't respond.I swallowed the spurt of fear in my throat. "My name… my name is… My name is Lor… Lorraine," I stammered, finally remembering what my name was."Lorraine, can you tell me what you were doing in the woods by that time?" He asked, stopping to let the words sink down in my head. "Calm down, we're not going to hurt you, okay? You're safe here."Blinking my eyes several times, I processed his question slowly before I answered."We were coming back from the party, and we heard some voices coming from the woods." She swallowed again. "We thought maybe someone was in trouble…""And you went to check, right?" James shook his head."Yes," I answered, my voice barely above a whisper. From the little moments I've gotten to stay here, James was the nice guy while his brother, David, was quite the opposite."Well, you've gotten yourself in trouble," David guffawed, making me tense with fear.Trouble? What trouble is he talking about?"Who did you see?" James asked."I saw the mayor with some men. They were talking about missing goods. I don't know what the goods are. Please, find my friend. They'll kill her," I answered."What else did you see?"I heaved a sigh. "I saw a man wearing a red cloak. He seemed to be the owner of the goods," I said, recalling the man's voice."You mean the governor was here last night?" David interjected, interrupting his brother."I don't know. I didn't see his face," the words came out of my mouth faster than I expected."James, if the governor was here, then we need to…""I know what we have to do," James fired at his brother. "Call the rest of the team, we need to talk.""Get me the files and make sure you send out the report, okay?" The mayor said to his secretary and walked into his office."Yes, sir," her voice followed, but he had already closed his doors. As usual, the tiled floor sparkled. He observed the placement of his awards, most especially the one he was given at the annual peacekeeping conference some years ago.He smiled, everyone thinks he earned all these medals for serving the people. What else did he expect? He smiled, knowing fully well that the awards and trophies were not because of his commitment to the people but rather, his commitment to making the governor happy. He continued to walk around the office, hands akimbo, glancing from photograph to photograph, when he got to the portrait of Dr Han, he smiled again.Dr Han was the Mayor he succeeded. The accident that killed Dr Han and his family had thrown the entire town into a dilemma."Old fool," the mayor finally said, his eyes still fixed on the portrait of Dr. Han. "You'd have
James' POVDavid had just ended a call with his insider, and was telling me about a supposed truck that will be carrying the Mayor's goods, out of the town by evening towards the southern road that led to the City. Those idiot vampires. I knew it had something to do with blood. But, as always, all I needed to know were 'when' and 'to where' the goods were going.I sent my messages to the team. They were mostly orphans who lost their parents to vampires, and in a way destiny has brought us together to hunt vampires down. With the information from David's informant, we planned how the ambush would play out. It was going to be clean, fast and swift.By evening, we were in formation waiting. It was about 6:45pm when I heard the screeching of a truck fast approaching. I signaled everyone to positions, and to stay close behind the trees, except for Kayla who stood with me on the road because she'd be driving the truck to the hideout. As we crouched in the dense foliage, waiting for the truc
Lorraine stood before a giant mirror, she stared deeply at her reflection, she was not familiar with the person staring back at her. Her hair was scattered over her face, her eyes swollen from sleeplessness. Correctly said: swollen due to the stress she has been through. She observed herself, her dirty clothes, her stained face and the new cuts left on her arm by the ridges that had pierced her in the woods."This isn't me, this can't be me." She whispered to herself. She used her hand to adjust the strands of hair littered over her face, then placed her fingers on her cheeks and raised them up to force a smile on her face. She was not satisfied. She still looked pale and sick. She was still trying to design a good enough smile on your face when she heard a voice trotting towards the room she was in. It was James's voice telling whoever it was in the parlor to go get some rest. Lorraine could not understand the sudden feeling of familiarity she felt for James, it was as though she h
Lorraine's POV This was the first time I have ever seen myself like this. I looked awful. If I were to audition for the role of a witch in Harry Potter I'd get the role without raising my eyebrows high.I heard James' voice from the veranda outside. He was coming to my room. David didn't seem to like the way James treats me. It was written all over his face this morning when James moved me from the prison-like room to this beautiful heaven, decorated with green curtains.Immediately he walked in, I moved away from the mirror, not wanting him to see me staring at myself. He was wearing a red Hawaiian shirt, buried In a gray trouser and wore a baseball cap. Damn, He looked more handsome than he was earlier. He had curly hair and a perfect smile that complemented his body. His chest was broad, it'd have been too wide if not for his arm muscles that fitted perfectly. He walked to the window and spread them open, then he moved to the bed and sat at the edge. "Sorry, I felt the room ne
David walked into the town. He loved to roam about Lightwood in the daytime when almost everyone was carried away with their activities."The mayor's going to say something about the missing girls," a man said and David slowed to hear."We all know they'll be dead by now. Nobody returns after getting missing," the other man replied. David pushed himself through the crowd until he was finally standing where he would hear everything that the Mayor was saying. He fixed his eyes on the podium and let out an irritated smug. The mayor was assuring the crowd that the missing people would be found. And that he had put in special officers to find them.David grined. "This fucking bastard."What special officers is he talking about? Did he meant vampires? "The last time they were seen was at the party two days ago," a voiced echoed from the crowd. The voice spoke again, "Who knows, they might have been eaten by a wild animal. I heard they were seen walking back home through the woods," he su
Abigail"I'll kill you," I heard the voice echoed and I instantly knew that it was referring to Lorraine. But there was nothing I could do to help. If I go out, I'll get caught too and killed.I ran towards the existence of the forest, enduring the thorns that prickled my feet. Suddenly my legs got tangled in tree roots and I fell to the ground, hitting my head on a tree trunk. "Ouch!" I screamed in pains. Trying to crawl was as bad as the scream. the last thing I remembered was that the moon was glowing. it was a beautiful night.*********"Where am I?" I whimpered, struggling to frer my hands from the rope holding them together."You must be Abigail?" The Mayor said, appearing from the door. He moved closer to where I was."Please, don't kill me," I begged, shaking my head sideways, tears streaming down my eyes heavily. "Please."He smiled, ignoring me for a moment. Then he motioned to one of his men, "Get the tape." "Untie her."The guard did exacts he was told. He loosened the
"Lorraine," James called, walked into the room but he stopped immediately his eyes fell on her sleeping on the bed. She was wrapped in a blanket. James could not tell why he felt happy that she had decided to sleep. He grinned, darting his mind away from the thoughts clouding together. "How long have you been staring at me," Lorraine's voice brought him back to the present. His eyes dropped in embarrassment. "I... I just entered.""Well, I woke up about three minutes ago," Lorraine countered, making him more embarrassment. She scrambled out of bed, and stood up. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to…" "I was joking," she giggled. "You can die standing if you like."He smiled. "No nightmares, right?" He liked the sound of her voice, the way her head tilted first one way then another as she talked. It made her dark hair move against her neck and bare shoulders."Woke up as I slept," she replied, yawning. "What would you like to know, Lorraine?"She sighed. "What's happening, James?"Exact
As James opened his mouth to speak, a smile curled out of his lips instead. He stood up from the bed and began to walk out of the room.Lorraine did not plan for any of this to happen. It has drawn on her that it wasn't James's fault that she got herself into this mess.It was all her fault, everything; all her fault. She sighed deeply.Lorraine's body suddenly fell into a pool of regret. At that moment, she realized that what she said to James was a mistake - a mistake that she hadn't intended to make.James walked his way out of the room. He wished he could just tell Lorraine lots of things she wanted to know. He didn't because he knew he would not be able to control himself. There were lots of things he should not tell her. However, it would be hard to explain all these without Sasha coming in.Lorraine ran and stood in his way. It was time to pull the girly button. She stretched her hands out, "I'm sorry, James." She was in tears by now, her voice was shaking.Although James had
