Chapter one
Amanda's POVThe soft touch of a cool breeze against my skin roused me from my slumber. Slowly, my eyes fluttered open, my hands coming up to shield my eyes from the rays of sunlight peeking from the window. My body ached from working so late last night. I hadn't even gotten up to five hours of sleep and yet I had to get up as early as possible to avoid missing my flight. It was my last day in Manhattan, and it pained me to realize that the amount of money I'd made during my stay here would not do much for me. I groaned into my pillow as thoughts of the swarming debt my father had left behind for us. For years I'd tried not to hate him, but that proved difficult, seeing as my mother and I were practically swimming in debt! I would work myself to the literal bone, with zero results to show for my effort. This was by far the most infuriating period of my life, and it was all the fault of a man who did not give a shit about his family. A man who kept secrets from his family till he d

Amanda's POVMy chest felt like it was closing up. I drew in short, sharp breaths, struggling to breathe as reality dawned on me. The last five years of my life had been nothing but a cruel joke. "W-Why??!!" I let out a broken cry. "Why, Logan? Tell me why you would do something like this to me! How could you be cruel?!"He tried to clutch both my hands. "Amanda, you need to take a fucking chill pill!"Anger made my chest swell. "Don't tell me what to do!" I shoved him hard in the chest, pushing him into the wall repeatedly. "Is it true? What your so-called best friend said? Is it true, Logan?"The tears pooling in my eyes did not relent in spilling down my cheeks, and this time I did not even bother to wipe them away. I let them fall freely, the weight of the betrayal falling heavily on my shoulders. "You've been playing with my feelings this whole time? Look me in the eyes and tell me that the last five years meant nothing to you, that you are only using my intelligence! Tell me

Amanda's POVI winced as I downed my third shot of alcohol, feeling it burn my throat. "Another!" I yelled to the bartender over the loud music. He looked at me doubtfully, as if trying to imply that I'd had enough, but I shot him a glare sharp enough to slice him clean into two. Holding a hand up as if in surrender, he began to mix me a cocktail. My head spun as I buried myself into the chinc environment of the club. I had never been one to party or turn to alcohol, but things were obviously different tonight. After my encounter with the loan sharks of my agreement to pay off the loan tomorrow, I needed to clear my head somehow. My chest still ached from thoughts of Logan and all the pain he had caused me. At intervals, tears would fill my eyes, but I immediately shook them off and downed another glass of the tasteful-tasting"Here you go, sweetheart. Take it easy though…" the bartender said loudly over the music, sliding the shot over to me. I snatched up the glass. "Mind your f

Chapter four
Amanda's POVAt the mention of my family home, my heart lurched painfully in my chest. My legs faltered as I thought about it, and I had to hold onto a chair to steady myself. Losing the house was one of my biggest fears, and it showed. How could I have forgotten? I wanted to slap myself for being so silly. I had gotten so drunk last night that I forgot about the men who had destroyed my home yesterday. They were coming today for their money, and I did not have a penny. My mother and I were going to be thrown out in the street in probably a few hours, and our home would be lost forever.I stared back at the man's hard gaze, and the thought of everything that was at stake came crashing down on me. My family home. I had grown up there, and the memories I'd made with my parents in the good times were too dear to lose. I parted my lips to speak but no words came forth. There were a billion things that could do wrong with this arrangement. For one, I had no idea who this man really was.

Chapter Five
Amanda's POVThe house was unusually quiet. That was the first thing I noticed when I walked in. I froze at the door, my eyes darting through the halls. On a normal day, my mother would either be in the kitchen or doing some other chore around the house to keep herself busy. It was what she did whenever she was worried. She never liked to be idle. "Mom, I'm home!" I called out loudly, putting my purse down and taking a seat. My brain was practically aching from thinking about how I would tell her about the money. "Mom?" I called out again. This was not normal. Instantly, my heart began to thunder in my chest. We were supposed to pay off the debt today. What if those men had come back while I was away. I jumped from the chair and ran through the house, screaming. "Mom! Where are you?!"The moment I raced into the living room, I saw my mother seated on a sofa, surrounded by the loan sharks from yesterday. Contrary to my fears, they were not violent today. Instead, they all sat down

Quinn's POVI never thought I would be here again; in this city, within the walls of this company. It came with averse emotions I could not quite place. But nothing was more unpleasant than being here already.I had no plans to be back in my hometown this soon, and especially to take over the company. This was not supposed to happen, at least not for a few more years. But they left me with no choice. They had pushed me too hard, and now I had to take action somehow. Being close to these people was not on my agenda, but I realized that the only way for me to remain safe was to blend in and get close enough to my enemies.I gritted my teeth in annoyance. I had better things to do with my time than this. This whole thing had ruined my plans. I thought I would not have to worry about the company until I found someone deserving to get married to. But now the criteria stated that I had to be married before becoming the CEO, there was nothing else I could do. I had planned to consider my o
