TRUTH OF BLAINE

My alarm hits right in my ears and my brain pops out, fizzing my senses. Guess the

idea of inserting earplugs connected to my digital alarm was a bad idea. I can

feel my ear drum beating.

I throw the duvet on the floor and run to the bathroom; I take a quick cold

shower and brush my teeth. I wear my puma tracksuit and head to the kitchen to

grab my protein shake. I have challenged Rebecca but I am anxious too, not sure

if I will beat her but I know I will give my one hundred percent to it.

Gulping down the protein shake from the shaker, I dumb it in the sink and head for the

tracks. I have to prepare my brain, as well as my body. It’s 5 in the morning

and everything is going according to the schedule I sketched. Taking the toll

of 10 laps of the outer track of my house, which is a total of 5 miles,

approximately, is not bad at the day one.

I get inside the house drenched in sweat. I hear a loud gasp nearby and turn my

face to found Grandma looking at me with a shine in her eyes; I guess she has

water in her eyes.

“Grandma? What are you doing at this hour?” I ask her.

“Well, I think I need to ask you the same question. As long as I know, you are not a

morning person, but I can see the change surfacing in you. I am happy for that.”

She replies.

“Thank you!”

“I know what happened in the school yesterday and I am very disappointed Blaine.”

Grandma jabs.

“It was her fault! She provoked me, and if you were there to watch the whole scene

I bet you must have slapped her before me.” I explain to her.

“Blaine, I know what Sinclair’ are and what are the extensions of their limits but hitting a woman is not appreciated by a nobleman like you. There are plenty of ways to insult

Sinclairs’ heritage.”She sighs, “What are your plans for your future, Blaine?”

I take a rest on the couch while Grandma sits in front of me, “I am going to

utilize this suspension. I have challenged Rebecca Sinclair that I will beat

her in annuals. I don’t know how I am going to do this but I have to, as this

will be a big debt for us.”

“Hmm.. I will ask for a personal tutor for you who will guide you through your annual

exams. You have challenged Sinclairs’ but we are together in this. Consider

this as your Grandpa’s last wish.” She states, “Now come with me, I have

prepared a healthy breakfast for you.”

I smile when she said she prepared the breakfast for me. She is strict, but she

knows how to handle tough situations like this. I am glad she didn’t scold me

for my suspend letter from school.

After the breakfast, I take my usual long shower to relax my sore muscles and without

wasting another second; I take out my books and makes notes. Soon I hear a soft

knock on the door and there is a beautiful woman, standing at my doorstep. I

stand up and approach her.

“Yes, how can I help you?”

“I am Lauren! I am your private tutor.” She introduces herself.

She is bit older than me, but she is charming and cute. She resets my schedule fist

and clears my doubts on a particular subject. I study till the noon until my

stomach grumbles shamelessly in front of her; I felt embarrassed.

“I think it’s enough for today. We will continue tomorrow.” She states and left.

My phone rings as I notice Oliver’s name on the caller ID, “yeah! What’s up, bro?”

“Hey! I feel bad for you but that pig is suspended too.” He laughs on the phone.

“This is not funny besides her part. I am utilizing my time to prepare of annuals. I

have a private tutor guide me, she is hot!” I exclaim.

“Whoa!! I think I need to get a private tuition at your home too.”

“ha ha! Fat chance! She is mine.” I chuckle, “so any news about her?”

“Nah!! I am not privileged in high societies except you. I can’t find anything about

her, but I am keeping my tabs. She hasn’t left her room since morning.” Oliver

says.

“How do you know that?”

“One of my relative works at Sinclair’s! Don’t worry, you brother got your back!” he

chuckles.

“Thanks dude, but I gotta go! I will catch you later in the club!” I bid him goodbye.

My daily routine follows up quickly. I get dressed as normal before hitting the

road in my mustang, but Grandma calls me in mid tracks, “Blaine! Where are you

going?”

“Grandma, I am going to meet Oliver! I need to ask his notes of today’s lecture.” I lie.

“Are you sure?” she raises a suspicion.

“Of Course, why would I lie to you?”

“Okay! Back by 10 at home.” She declares.

“But Grandma…” I retaliate.

“10 mean 10! And you already know what will be the punishment for disobeying my

orders.” She hisses in a low, dangerous voice as she sends a chilled shiver to my

spine.

“Yes!”

I sat on a wooden stool of a café in woods, waiting for Oliver to arrive. I feel

a tap on my shoulder and I know he is here.

“what took you so long? I am lacking time.” I grit my teeth.

“come on, buddy! Don’t say this, we have to hit the crowd with your music loud.” His

eyes widen, “Oh my god! I can rap too.”

“It was pathetic and Oliver please, I am serious. Grandma will kill me if I did not

reach home by 10.” Fear washes over my face.

“dude! You are living a lonely life inside your big house. You need to chill. We won’t

get late. Trust me!” he insists, and my sense agrees with him.

“okay!” and we hit to the club.

I take my position as the part time DJ of the club. I start with low tones and

soft infusing music. It makes the crowd relax before making them dance on the

beats of my tunes. As I raise the tempo and lower the base, the music strikes

directly to the heart. The rhythms match with my heartbeat and I feel like I am

lost.

The loud music bangs inside my ears and the thuds of the bass hit my body. The blood

rushes into my veins as the adrenaline rises, taking me to the world of ecstasy.

The women dancing like sluts and men looking at them like hungry wolfs. The sensual

touch of the notes makes the crowd goes mad. I want to stay like this until my eyes

notices the time, 12:17 A.M.

My eyes pop out and I rush out from my cabin, abruptly stopping the music in

between. The cheering crowd goes boo when I step out and left them. Oliver

follows me outside and we head back to our homes.

I am screwed today!!! I wish that Grandma has slept before I reach, but the odd

are never in my favor. I saw her sitting on the staircase leading to the

entrance and I wish the sky can eat me alive.

Her eyes are furious and disappointed. I jumped out of the car and approach her.

“I can explain!” I say.

“Explain!”

Now I am screwed, “I can’t!”

She slaps me across the face. “How dare you? Not the whole week has passed since

your Grandpa died and you are hitting clubs and drinking like there is no tomorrow

for you? This is how you will make him proud? This is how you will win

the challenge against Sinclairs’?”

She continues, “I thought your changing your bad habits, but I was wrong. Well, it

wasn’t your fault, if we have a blood of our own then something like this

wouldn’t have happened.”

My eyes widen on her words, “what are you saying Grandma?”

She turns to me and elaborates, “I am son died when he was 5 due to leukemia. We

search every hospital for a potent donor, but we couldn’t find the one in time.

We went for adoption and brought 7 years old boy from an orphanage. We raised him

better than our son but look at the game of fate; he died in am car accident as

well.”

With heaviness in her voice, she continues, “our world fell apart but hopes were

alive. After 20 years, we adopted you. Your mother left you inside a hospital

bed. We brought you home with us and since then, we raised you. Your Grandpa

never wanted to tell you that we adopted you, so we lied to you.”

My ears freeze on her words. I can’t focus on what she said further. For a whole life,

I thought my parents died in an accident. Suddenly, I realize that Grandma gave

me letters yesterday. I run to my room and lock the room behind.

I grab the letters and open them to read.
