"Isabelle, darling," the one known as Paloma greeted her with a toothy smile, rising from her seat. The other two stayed seated, eyeing her with predatory gazes masked by false smiles.
Unfortunately, they weren't alone when they got in there. Izzie inwardly cursed at the two drunken females stood by the sinks. The short brunette was crying, most likely over some insignificant male that she felt she needed, and the tall blonde was giving her the worst pep talk Izzie had ever heard.
Jake was already firing up the Van Helsing DVD when she stepped back into the small living area. The guy couldn’t resist, and she loved him for it sometimes. It was now 11:00 am and neither of them had slept.
‘Tap. Tap. Tap.’The politest of knocks came at the door. Izzie and Jake frowned at one another. It had been an awkward few days since that strange conversation. Neither had really talked to the other properly, even though they shared the same small living space. Right now, however, it seemed they were in silent agreement that it was even stranger to have someone knocking at the door at six in the morning; especially with them being in the sla
I wonder what big things are planned,” Jake mused while he idly rolled a stray drawing pin around on the coffee table. The two of them had showered and dressed since his father’s unexpected appearance. Jake had seemed a little down since the visit, which wasn’t surprising given that his father had pretty much paid him no mind other than a brief scolding. Izzie on the other hand now felt like she was being crushed by the weight of the world.“I don’t know,” she muttered, as she tried to busy herself by making dinner for the two of them, “What was in the envelope?” she changed the subject.“Another assignment,” he sighed
The warehouse was quiet as she crouched down behind a pallet full of cement-mix bags. She had managed to find a way in through a rotten looking hole in the wall, that looked like it had been caused by storm damage. It hadn't quite been big enough and she had scraped a long line of skin off of her shoulder where she had caught it on a piece of protruding splintered wall panel. There was also a very strong possibility that said piece of panel had a few rusty nails sticking out of it, so a tetanus shot might be in order after this assignment was complete. After a quick evaluation of her injuries, she concluded that it was just a scratch and there was nothing more she could do right now, but was hi
Izzie threw herself to the side, using the pallet to propel herself faster, but unfortunately, she wasn’t fast enough and a large paw crashed down on her ankle. Without hesitation she brought her other foot up into its jaw, taking it off guard and causing it to stumble slightly. She managed to pull her foot free in the few moments that it was stunned and was up and running... well, hobbling. Another loud growl behind her just a few seconds later told her that he’d recovered and was pissed. She didn't have much time. She drew her pistol as she ran, cursing at herself for not being prepared as she quickly stuffed the magazine in, her sweaty fingers slid unhelpfully as
The wolf had gone in for the killing blow, aiming for her throat. Thankfully Izzie had managed to flinch away, but not far enough as the wolf's teeth sank deep into her shoulder. Pain engulfed her as she felt the sickening crunch of bone beneath its powerful jaws. Her hands grasped wildly at its mouth, trying to prise it off of her but it only made it bite harder. The wolf started trying to shake its head, trying to tear the flesh away but she held on to it, not giving it the leverage it needed to do so. The pain in her shoulder was so intense that she could barely breathe and she started to feel the warm sticky puddle forming beneath her head as the wolf continued to try and maul her.
Izzie startled awake, breathing hard. She didn't know what had woken her as nothing was immediately apparent, maybe she had been having a nightmare. The lights were dimmed right down in her hospital room and it almost felt cosy waking up this time. She glanced at the clock only to see it was four in the morning. She had only been asleep for about an hour at best. Jake must have left once she managed to drop back off as she was now alone.
