Dominic was giving me problems. I thought because we somewhat knew each other, he would at least open up to me. However, I was completely wrong. He just sat across from me, staring at the window, watching the rain hit the glass hard. I looked at my phone and noticed we have been sitting in silence for about thirty minutes straight. I only had two hours with each patient, so he was just letting precious time go to complete waste. I sighed and closed my notebook.-

“ Dominic,” I said his name.

He didn’t respond, he just stared out the window. I got up from the chair and walked in between the window and his view. He rolled his eyes and turned his attention back to the table. I crossed my arms and tapped my combat boots on the floor, making a tapping sound.

“ Dominic,” I said his name once more.

Still no response. Another sigh escaped my mouth, and I threw my hands up to surrender. This was fucking pointless to me, so I walked back to the table and grabbed all my stuff. I wasn’t about to waste my time with someone who doesn’t want to cooperate. The funny thing is, he doesn’t know that if he doesn’t show improvement, they will make him stay here longer. That’s up to him, though. I’m not about to kiss his ass at all. I headed over to my desk and put everything where it belongs. Then, I walked over to the door and was about to bang on it to tell them to come get him. I shook my head and turned around to face him and seen he was staring at me this whole time.

“ Why won’t you talk to me?” I asked him. “ If you don’t cooperate here, that means they get to keep you here longer. Don’t you want to get out?”

“ Why do you care, Dr. Moore?” He asked sarcastically, turning his attention back to the window. “ I suggest you tell them to take me to my room because I’m not going to talk to you.”

I nodded my head and did exactly that. I banged on the door, and Dominic’s head turned back over to me. My door opened up, and two security guards came in.

“ You can take him back,” I told them. “ He’s not cooperating with me.”

The guards walked in and grabbed Dominic. They pulled him out of the room and shut the door behind them. I pressed my back against the door and banged my head against it as well. This wasn’t a good day at all. I really wanted to talk to him, too. I don’t know why he keeps giving me a hard time. Does he hate me or something? I mean, I never did anything to him. But, since our family beef, I shouldn’t expect him to be all happy and nice.

“ I try to do my work, and it just blows back up in my face,” I whispered to myself as I walked back to my desk. I took a seat and put my head down on my desk. Dominic is the first patient who I had problems with.

My phone vibrated in my pocket, and I reached inside to grab it. I looked at the screen and smiled when I saw Erika’s name light up. I answered it and held the phone close to my ear.

“ I’ll make an exception for you since you’re my best friend,” I told her, laughing.

“ Great, because I have a question for you.” She said in a rush. “ Did anybody special come to your job yesterday? Like two cops and a murderer, for example?”

I looked towards the door and said a simple “yes.”

“ Was it him?” She asked me, and I answered her again with another “ yes.” I heard her sigh with relief and she was talking to someone in He background. “ They weren’t trying to tell his family where they put him. Have you tried to talk to him yet?”

“ He won’t talk to me, and he doesn’t realize that the more he doesn’t cooperate, the longer he stays in this place.”

Erika told the people exactly what I said. I heard them tell her something and then she quickly got back on the phone.

“ When you see him again, tell him his sister said that he needs to cooperate.” She explained to me. “ The cops are trying to slap the case on his ass, and they are going to try to get make it to where he will never leave.”

My heart hurt after she told me the news. The door to my room opened, and I saw Dr. Martin came in.

“ Okay, dad, I have to go,” I said and hung up.

“ I’m going to let that go.” He said as he approached me at the desk. “ It is your lunch break, anyway.”

“ Great,” I said, placing my phone in my pocket.

“ So, how did it go with him?”

I looked at him with irritation and rolled my eyes.

“ That bad, huh?” He asked me, and I nodded as I got up from my seat. “ Just, don’t give up on him, alright?”

We walked out my room together and down the hall to the front. I wanted to grab something to eat outside of the cafeteria area. Their food was great, but not that good.

“ Can I ask you something?” I asked him as we stopped in front of the receptionist’s desk.

“ Of course.” He said, leaning on the desk.

“ Do you actually believe he did it?”

He sighed and looked around before turning his attention back over to me. “ To be honest, I’m not even sure.” He told me. “ Yes, he doesn’t look like the type of person to do it, but we don’t really know him like that. So, I’m not even sure if I can call him a criminal or not.”

I nodded my head in agreement with what he said. That is actually true, I don’t know Dominic. We didn’t really have a conversation the other day besides that confrontation at Couturie Forest. Other than that, there is nothing to tell. I patted him on the shoulder and headed out the front door; I was ready to take my break.

I decided to eat out with Erika at Mama’s Café over here on Bourbon Street, next to her job. Erika said she would eat here every day on her lunch break and in the back of my head, I’m always wondering where did all the food go. As we sat together to enjoy this delicious meal, I could tell she had something on her mind the way that she kept staring at the window that we sat by.

“ What’s going on?” I asked her, placing my hand on her hand.

She turned her attention back to me and gave me a small smile. “ It’s nothing.” She said, taking another bite of the apple cinnamon french toast she ended up ordering.

“ Talk to me.”

She sighed and put her face in her hand. I tilted my head at her, waiting for her to give me a heads up on what bothered her.

“ It’s Seth.” She finally announced, and I just sat there wide-eyed for a second.

“ You like Dominic’s older brother?” I asked her in shock. “ Since when did you start liking bad boys?”

“ Girl, I normally don’t, but there’s something about him that drives me insane. He’s cute, and his temper is just- gah!”

The people at the next table looked over at us after she made that noise. I looked at them and smiled, and they got back to eating their food.

“ Keep making those sounds, and you’re going to have people in here thinking we’re crazy,” I told her.

She shrugged. “ Let them think it, then.” She said, not giving a damn.

I shook my head and took a sip of my strawberry lemonade that I had ordered from the restaurant.

“ So, what happened?” I asked her, wanting more information about this Seth guy that’s gotten my friend in her feelings.

“ It’s like every time I try to talk to him, he distances himself.” She explained. “ I tried talking to him today, and he was pulled away by some girl. I wish I could just get amount of his time, but the way his popularity is, that’ll never happen.”

She stopped talking and went back to eating her food. I felt really bad because I know how it is. You like somebody, but they won’t give you the time of day to get to know them or even speak to them. This reminds me of the problem I’m having with Dominic. He won’t open up to me, and it sucks because he’s the one person I feel I would be able to connect with. Well, besides Cassie, but Cassie is actually dating someone, so her and I having a conversation is a minimum to none.

The waitress that served us the whole time we were here came by and stood at the table. I looked over to her, and she had a huge smile on her face. “ Is there anything else I can get you, ladies?” She asked, and I shook my head at her.

“ Maybe two containers and the check, please?” I asked.

“ Coming right up.” She said, and she left the table.

“ Thank you,” I told her as soon as she walked away.

I grabbed my phone to check the time. It read 12:44pm, and I quickly looked to see if the waitress was coming back because I had sixteen minutes to get back to work. I guess Erika seen me and laughed.

“ Go ahead and go to work.” She told me.

“ Wait, what?” I asked her. “ No, I need to pay my part of the bill.”

“ It’s okay. You can just treat next time we go out. I know you have to go back to work and I don’t want you to get docked for coming back late from your lunch break. So, go ahead and go.”

“ Are you sure?”

She nodded her head, and I got up from the table. I went to her and gave her a hug before rushing out the front door of the restaurant.

“ I’m going to need for you to try to get something out of him.” Dr. Martin told me as soon as I clocked in.

“ He won’t talk to me,” I told him as I headed towards my office.

“ Look, if we can’t get anything out of him, they are going to pin the charge on him.”

I stopped and turned to Dr. Martin. Even though I already knew this information from Erika, I had to make it seem like he was the first one telling me. I had to make it seem surprising to me.

“ Why?” I asked him as I opened the door to my office.

“ Because he won’t tell them who his boss was.” Dr. Martin said as he came in and took a seat on the couch. “ Apparently, there are multiple people who own that club. They have different days for different bosses.”

I took a seat across from him and crossed my legs to where they weren’t touching the floor.

“ So, I wonder who was the boss who was working from Thursday night to Friday morning?” Dr. Martin asked.

I didn’t want him to be confined to this place, so I was going to have to make him aware of everything that was going to happen to him if he didn’t answer me. I sighed and clapped my hands together.

“ Go ahead and bring him in, then,” I told Dr. Martin. “ I’m going to do everything I can to get him to open up to me.”

“ Thank you so much.” He said, getting up and heading towards the door. “ I’ll bring him to you later on today, so you can fill him in.”

I nodded my head, and he walked out of my office. Looks like I’m going to really think before I talk to Dominic.
