Chapter 8

The Annual Masquerade Ball is one of the most awaited parties of the school where they feel the excitement of meeting their lovers hiding in a mask. Others were up into the suspense it brought to their first and last dance. They must be so excited about this that's why we have to work hard and meet their expectations.

As soon as my class ended, I went straight to my office. I called a meeting for us to plan for the upcoming Masquerade Ball and come up to different suggestions. The good thing about my officers is their creativity and support.

After the planning, they went to the Gymnasium to check the area while here I am still arranging the piled papers and reports to be done.

"Hey, aren't you gonna go home yet?" Lily asked the second she gets into here with Jordan.

I shook my head before meeting her sight. "No, I still have to go to the Gymnasium," I replied, she nodded in understanding.

"I will wait for you then," Jordan suggested but I refused.

"I'm fine, Jordan. Let's just meet tomorrow," I insisted and gave them an assuring smile. As much as I wanted them to stay and wait for me, I can't because they have their own lives too.

"See you tomorrow, take care!" they hollered when they were already out of the room. I gave them a dismissive wave of my hand until they lost out of my sight. I groaned in frustration and crumpled some scratch papers on the table as I saw the amount of work I needed to finish.

Being a student body president is really not easy. If only I could resign any moment from now, I would gladly do it. I thought having this position would be fun, like walking along the halls and everyone would head up onto you. Students will see you as a role model and you can control them but I just thought the opposite. This must be the worst!

I started picking up the forms and other reports and piled them in the cabinet near my table. I coughed when the dust spread all over the area as I put down the papers. Maybe I should clean this area sooner. I might get into asthma because of this. I quickly composed my posture and dust off my dress then continued what I am doing until I heard a sudden knock on the door.

"Ms. President, the area is already cleared and everything is ready for decoration. The volunteers are there also," she said peeking on the wooden door. I silently laughed at the way she acted. She can enter my office either way. She's acting as if I'm going to eat her when she gets in.

I cleared my throat while putting down the last pile of papers on my table before giving her sight. "Great! I'll go there any moment from now," I said, giving her a smile. She nodded before turning her back.

The halls were already quiet and peaceful when I got outside the office. There are few numbers of students passing by which I think the majority of them are volunteers for the preparation. Soon after, I reached the Gymnasium.

"Amber!" Steph, one of the officers, waved her hand to me.

I moved my steps closer to her and asked for updates. She is responsible for informing me all the details for the program since I assigned it to her.

"We have already formulated a plan for the decorations. The dance club started hanging off the cloth for a backdrop," I scanned the area and there I saw some guys crossing the cloth on the wall. "And the basketball team was ordered to get the other decorations in the principal's office," she continued.

I nodded and instructed her to continue what she was doing. She returned to her group who were cutting some colored letters which was actually good to see. While they are doing their own jobs, I took the chance to search for a seat where I could place my bag. I also wanted to help the group of Steph because that's the least thing I could do for now.

"Could someone please hand me a scissor?!" a guy from above dangerously holding a blue cloth asked.

He was lying on the metal ceiling, still holding the cloth. I scanned the area but everyone was busy doing their tasks and seems like they haven't heard him asking for scissors.

"Where's the scissor?" I looked up to ask him.

"On the ladder beside you!" he yelled back.

I swiftly look for the scissors and take a few gulps realising what I just did. I offered help to the man located above, so basically I must take the ladder to hand it to him. Oh! How stupid, Amber!

"Can you please make it fast? I'm dying here!" he demanded exaggeratedly.

"How could I hand it to you? Should I throw it in your direction?" I dumbly asked, causing him to hiss.

"Are you stupid? Take the ladder!" Now, he sounds annoyed. "Faster! Before I would die here! I swear, my soul would hunt you!" he snapped.

I took a deep breath and tried to calm myself. He's overreacting! I want to drag him down here! But he also got the point. I would surely do the same if I'm on his position. "I'm coming! Just wait!" I shouted in annoyance.

I nervously took one step but took it back down. I might die here just because of a scissor! I slowly looked upward and there I met the furrow brows of the man above. I groaned in frustration while holding the scissor and tried a new step.

"Are you going to hand that to me or play in the ladder all the time?! I swear, my soul will hunt you!" I made a facepalm before irritatingly yelled back.

"Shut up!"

I don't know where I pulled out my confidence to reach this far. I am two steps near to the top and would finally hand this thing to him.

"Hey, faster!"

I tightened my grip to the steel ladder and shot him a deadly glare.

"Don't pressure me! I'm dying here, okay?" I answered between my pounding chest. I would seriously treat myself if I could go back down complete and alive.

He didn't dare to talk back so I took one deep breath before reaching the top. My whole nerves were shaking inside as I thought of standing on the top of the ladder without someone or something to hold on. I might slip my foot here, fall down and break my bones or splatter my blood on the ground.

"What are you waiting for? Hand it to me now!" I rolled my eyes and bit my lower lip, taking my view on him.

"Is this safe?" I nervously asked.

He released a playful smile before answering me. "Try it for you to know, just be careful," he answered.

Now, I am doubting if I will continue the last step.

"I'm choking here, make it fast!" he exaggeratedly coughed exposing the blue wide cloth hung on her neck down to his back.

I wanted to go back down but I can't let him die there also. So I closed my eyes and heaved a loud sigh before taking my step. My knees were shaking as I forced myself to stand upright. This was my first ever near-death experience and I swear to pull off his hair if I can't land back safely.

"Congratulations for reaching the top!" he mockingly laughed before pulling off the cloth to his body.

I shot him sharp stares as I realised that he is only tricking me. "You're not choking?" I asked in disbelief.

"Of course not, I just need the scissor to cut some wires here," he said wiggling his brow.

"You moron!" I shouted, causing him to laugh.

"Hand that to me so that you can get back there," I didn't bother to answer him, instead I stretched my arms to hand him the scissor.

His location is a little distant to mine so I need to tiptoe still with shaking nerves.

"Can you extend your arms a little more? I can't reach you," he demanded. I can't stretch more 'cause I might fall down this guy might be an idiot.

"I can't," I thrifty said.

"Just try once more, okay?" I rolled my eyes and followed his order. I tiptoed again but my feet trembled causing me to lose my balance.

I closed my eyes between my shout and silently prayed that I could be reincarnated after having this broken bone and splattered blood.

Goodbye world, it was nice knowing you.
