Chapter 7

"What the hell are you doing with this son of a bitch?!" Adam yelled at Emily.

I got up, and so did Emily.

"Uh, Adam, its not what you think." I said, trying to calm his hot ass down.

"Shut the fuck up you idiot!" He shouted.

"We were just studying." Emily explained.

But Adam was buying none of it because he replied her with a hot slap to the face. He took her arm and dragged her out of the library, only stopping at the door to look back at me.

"You, if I ever see your fucking self with her again, trust me your body will never remain the same." He threatened, walking out with Emily.

Where the hell was the librarian all this while?

My memory flashed back to the hard slap Emily received from Adam. And I couldn't do anything about it. I felt so small and powerless. But I knew I had to do something about Adam before it got too late.

I saw that Emily had left her geology notebook, and wondered how I would get it back to her because I couldn't risk Adam knowing.

I left the library.

When I got to class, I realised Adam had switched seats with Emily, who was now sitting at the back of the class with teary eyes.

I went over to my seat and put Emily's notebook in my backpack, not wanting Adam to see what I was doing. After seating for a while, the biology teacher, Mrs Prudence entered the classroom and asked for Daniel Robinson.

Me?

"I'm Daniel, ma'am." I said.

"The principal wants to see you. In his office." She said.

"Ooh..." The whole class murmured.

One was never invited to the principal's office unless one had done something very wrong.

I haven't done anything wrong, have I?

"Looks like little handsome Danny is in trouble." Adam said beside me.

I dismissed the immediate thought that Adam had done something bad in my name and walked out of the classroom.

I got to the principal's office and found him at his table, talking to Judy -wait, Judy?

What the hell was she doing here? What have you done now Judy?

"You must be Daniel." The principal said.

"Y- yes sir. I am."

"Take a seat then." He offered.

I sat next to Judy who had been sobbing since I entered the room.

Oh gosh.

"Are you aware that your sister is pregnant?"

"What?!"

"Calm down Daniel. She vomited twice in class and after been checked up on, we discovered that she is pregnant. We asked her how it happened bit she wouldn't say anything. You two need to go home and settle... This." He was referring to Judy's belly.

I couldn't believe my ears.

"Pregnant?" I asked, still shocked.

"Yes. She's four weeks pregnant."

Oh good God

"Four weeks?! Oh my goodness. Judy! You're pregnant?!" I asked.

Judy just kept on staring ahead, like someone with mental issues.

"You two can go now. The school bus will take you home." The principal said.

"T- thanks sir." I said, still a little distraught.

Judy stood up, walked up to the door and exited the room.

I got up from my seat and left the room, sighting Judy at the far end of the hallway, a few meters away from the door that led out of the school building.

"Judy wait!" I yelled.

And to my surprise, she waited, without turning to look at me. I felt she was emotionally disturbed. She had always been that way -moody, edgy, aggressive and sometimes very temperamental.

I ran over to her quietly, not wanting any attention from classes nearby. As I got to Judy, she walked right out the door, like I didn't exist.

"Judy," I walked alongside her.

"Why did you do this? Tell me, why? And you just kept me in the dark about the whole thing, Judy, why did you do this? You know how bad dad is going to feel when he hears this. When he hears that you gave yourself all out to a boy. A useless, godforsaken boy. Tell me who it is that made you pregnant now, or else -"

For the first time ever, I saw Judy burst into tears right in front of me. I was baffled. I had zero experience on issues like this so I didn't have the slightest idea on what to do. I didn't even realize when I stopped walking, watching Judy sob into the school bus. Damn.

*************

"What?!" My parents exclaimed when they heard the news. They couldn't believe me, and Judy wouldn't even say anything, so they took her to the family hospital for I proper test.

I kept my fingers crossed, hoping it was all a mistake, but it was true.

It was damn true.

My parents tried as much as they could, to get Judy to tell them who got her pregnant, but Judy only cried each time she was asked. And after a couple of days, they grew tired of asking so they gave up the topic, hoping Judy would tell them whenever she felt comfortable to do so.

My Mom and Dad took great care of Judy, and signed her up for antenatal care at the hospital, not wanting any harm or discomfort to either Judy or the baby. My Dad spent his spare time lecturing me on the dangers of premarital sex and teenage pregnancy. Believe me, it was disgusting, but it was also the first time in a long while I could feel that My Dad actually cared about me, so I tried as much as possible not to show any signs of being grossed out when he was teaching.

My Dad let the principal know that he had gone to the hospital and put Judy up for antenatal care, so the principal gave me the rest of the week to stay home, because Judy could not attend school anymore. No one told me, but I knew Judy's education had come to an end. I felt so sorry for her and vowed revenge on the unfortunate guy that impregnated her.

Brian called at my house some days later, bringing my backpack that I had left at school the other day.

He asked what happened that I hadn't been in school, and since no one told me not to, u told him what the situation was.

He gasped when I did.

"You mean Judy is pregnant?"

"Yes."

"And nobody knows the father, except herself?"

"Exactly."

"Wow." He said, running his fingers through his hair.

"But don't tell anyone about this, okay?" I said, assuring myself that I hadn't done anything bad since he wasn't going to tell anyone.

"Yeah, sure." He sighed.

"I'll be right back." I said as I went out of my room, to the kitchen to serve him some fruit juice.

I returned and offered him the drink, suddenly remembering the dream I had about Emily. And by sheer coincidence, he asked,

"So what's up with you and Emily now? Coz she was all, 'where's Daniel', 'where's Daniel' yesterday."

"Really? She asked of me?" I asked, somewhat surprised.

"Yeah yeah. Now tell me about you both." He said.

I told him what happened when Emily showed up at my house, the weird dream I had, and what happened at the library. And he listened attentively, sipping his juice at regular intervals.

"Oh... That's why Adam's always with Emily, following her around like a chick and the mother hen." He chuckled. "And about the dream, I don't really believe in dreams so I'm just gonna tell you it's just a dream. It can't happen in real life."

"And the library incident?" I asked.

"I personally, will advice you to stay away from Emily. If there's one thing we know about her, its that she's trouble, when Adam is around." He said.

I felt there was nothing I could do about Emily, the only reasonable thing to do was to give her up, because Adam did something I probably never would have- he donated his kidney to Emily. So I was going to leave her to Adam.

I took a deep breath.

"I'm not sure I could have done what Adam did, so he deserves her. And I don't." I said.

"Oh well, but if we really think about it, Adam did it just so he could have Emily all to himself, and I know you wouldn't have done that. Would you?"

"N- no. I wouldn't have. But I... I- I don't even know what to think anymore. If things continue this way, Adam's probably going to end up marrying Emily, so the best thing for me to do is to just leave them both alone."

"Alright bro. If that's your decision." Brian said, dropping his cup which had just a little juice left in it, and he stood to his feet.

"You're leaving already?" I asked.

"Yeah, i promised my Mom i wouldn't stay long."

"Okay, bye." I said.

He turned to go.

"Wait."

"What?" He asked, turning.

"Could you please help me tell Emily to come over here on Saturday? My parents won't be home. They're taking Judy to see a psychiatrist cause she's always moody and barely talks."

"Yeah, no problem. Can I come too?" He asked.

"No. I wanna talk to Emily privately."

"Alright lover boy." He joked. Then he left.

I got to bed early that night, thinking about what exactly I should tell Emily when she came. But I couldn't come up with the exact words to say.

And to make matters worse, my stomach started troubling me. That was weird because it only happened when something was about to go wrong. Dad called it my 'sixth sense'.

But what the hell was about to go wrong? Should I not have told Brian to tell Emily to come? I kept deliberating on whether to cancel the meeting with Emily or not. And with all the tiredness, I slept off.
