Chapter 2

-AMELIA-

I got ready for college wearing black jeans and a white crop top and had my hair in a ponytail. I like being simple and for that I was known to be a nerd unlike my best friend Jennifer Bancroft. She was more lit while being good in academics. Her major was in fashion design and we went to the same college by taking the bus. Well we both knew how to drive but liked taking the bus daily so we could spend more time with each other.

“Amelia, are you done yet? Jennifer's here.” My mom shouted which made me look at the clock and realise that I only had thirty minutes before the bus came. I rushed downstairs and had my breakfast when I noticed that my father had left for work early today also.

“He will be in for lunch, so don't be late after college.” My mom said seeing my frown. I smiled at her and got up to leave after giving Sara and mom a quick kiss.

“Thanks for the breakfast, Lily.” Jen said while getting up from the table. She lived 5 minutes away from here and yet came to have breakfast almost every morning. If you question her she will always answer‘your mom is a baker and her pancakes are always amazing.’

“Mia have you noticed the way Derek notices you?”

“No why?” I asked her curiously. Derek was in some of my classes and sometimes sat with us during lunch and I consider him as a friend.

“I think he has a thing for you.” She said giving me a suggestive look. But to be honest I never saw him in that way, he is a cool guy but not really my type.

“I didn't notice anything different.”

“You wouldn't because you are so naive my friend.”

“No I am not. By the way look who is talking, you don’t have anyone then why pester me, huh?”

“I am waiting for the right man, Mia and when he comes I will only notice him and not anyone else and also I will butterflies in my stomach”

“Oh my god you are so cliche.” I said and we both started laughing.

I entered my class and saw that Derek had saved a seat for me and he was waving at me. Okay he doesn’t look different or maybe he does, I don’t know I am not an expert in all this.

“Good morning Amelia, you look pretty today.”

“Thanks but you say that every day.” I said smiling at him. Before he could say something the professor entered and started the class. Not five minutes into the class he announced that he was going to take a pop quiz and you could hear the disappointed groans from the students. He passed out the quiz papers and I went through mine. It was quite easy I knew all the answers; I smiled in satisfaction and started answering all of them.

I felt a slight nudge and looked at Derek who smiled at me and whispered, “Do you know the fifth one? Please.”

I sighed and showed the answer and then continued answering the quiz.

The bell rang signalling that was finally the much awaited break and students rushed out to the cafeteria. Me and Jenny sat at our regular table and were talking about the day. I was telling her about Derek when we saw Tania and her minions walk into the cafeteria in long strides. She was wearing a crop top which was too tight for her and her skirt was giving quite a show. Tania was my arch nemesis in the whole College and the feeling was mutual. She is a bully and I hate bullies.

“Look who is here, its Miss. Goody two shoes.” Her minions snickered at her comment while I ignored her for my good as well as hers. She sashayed away to my surprise because honestly I was expecting for her to irritate me till I snapped. That was her daily routine, you know.

“How come she went away this time without insulting you?”

I shrugged and then replied, “I was thinking the same, maybe she woke up on the wrong side of the bed.” We both giggled at that when I felt a sticky liquid drop down my hair and face. Jennifer was staring at me open mouthed while I stared at the purple stain on my white top. I didn’t have to ask who it was because I could hear the annoying snickering of her minions. I stood up and saw that the whole cafeteria was anticipating my next move. Well I will show them without any delay.

You better do that because I don’t like this gooey stuff on me. Also can you wash yourself and remove this.

Don’t worry brain this time revenge will be for both of us.

“That was a low blow Tania. You shouldn’t have done that.” Derek scolded.

“Oh does Amelia need someone to stand for her. Well Derek you are doing great but I think she already has a loser to tag along with.” She said insulting Jennifer also this time.

“You know what Tania I am done with you and I will take care of you in a minute.” I seethed and then looked at Derek.

“Derek thanks for standing up for me but I can take care of myself. At least I think I have done quite well for myself these past two years.”

Derek nodded and stepped away. I know I was rude but you can’t blame me I have freaking juice all over me.

“Is baby Amelia going to complain to police daddy?”

I clenched my fists and looked at her. “Actually I think I can take care of you alone.” I said and took my juice and poured it all over her. Jennifer laughed while she glared at me. Jen decided to have some fun herself and poured her juice also.

Tania was going to punch me when a voice stopped her. “I want all three of you in my office. Now!” The dead screamed. All three of us lowered our heads and followed him.

“I don’t want to hear any explanation for this atrocious behaviour. Are you still in kindergarten? There is a decorum that this college follows, and you have violated this.”

“Sorry sir.” All three of us chorused.

He shook his head in disappointment and said, “Girls you are to spent two hours in detention whether you are sorry or not. And also clean yourselves before the next class.”

We nodded and left the room. I glared at Tania, because of her I will miss lunch with dad.

After cleaning up I went to the next class, which Derek shared with me. He looked at me in sympathy and asked, “What happened in the dean’s room?”

“Got ourselves detention.”

“That’s bad.” After a pause he continued, “Did you hear about the party this Thursday at Noel's place?” He asked with a glimmer in his eyes.

“Hmm…What about it?”

“I was thinking whether you would like to go with me?” He asked with a lot of hope that I almost felt bad for him. Jen was right, this guy had feelings for me but I don’t think it is mutual.

“Derek I actually haven’t decided yet.” I said smiling sadly at him. His smile turned into a frown which he tried to cover with a nod.

“But if I am going I will surely come with you.” His lips tugged into a grin.

“Text me later, okay?” I nodded and left the class. I messaged my mom that I won’t be there for lunch and she was not happy but I will make up for this later. For now, here I come detention.
