Chapter 5

-AMELIA-

I got up sweating profusely. My heart was beating fast and sweat trailed down my forehead. My back was aching from the uncomfortable position in which I was sleeping on the couch.

Thinking of everything that happened in the past days made me cry again.

As I brushed my teeth I thought about what happened in my dream and who could have done this. But one thing was for sure I want those criminals to be punished either by me or by the police.

Wait what was that arrogant fellow doing in my dreams! He had no connection with this entire scenario then why? Before I could think for an answer there was a knock at the door. I was shivering as i walked towards the door what if the killer has come back realising that he had left one person behind? I was breathing heavily and panicking... I took a knife from the kitchen and started walking towards the door and opened the door carefully.

As soon as I saw the familiar blonde hair and blue eyes my shoulders relaxed and the knife fell from my hand.

"Mia! Did you eat anything I know you won't feel like eating but you have to stay strong till all this gets over. And what in the world is that knife doing in your hands? Oh my god! Were you trying to suicide?"

In any normal situation I would have laughed at her but today I just couldn't say anything. She understood that and gave me a bear hug which I gladly accepted. But then she looked at me seriously, “what's with the knife?”

“I thought the killer was back.”

Her mouth formed an 'o' shape and then hugged me again.

“So no suicidal thoughts right?”

“Not until I find this killer.”

“Not even then, okay?” She said and I nodded halfheartedly. I was really trying to hold on to something in life and even a thread would do. But I wasn’t going to tell her that and worry her.

She made breakfast and we ate together. I told her about my dream and about that guy, she told I just could have imagined that because I saw him before witnessing the murder. She helped me clean my father’s study and my room.

After Jenny left I went upstairs did my morning routine and laid on my bed. I took the photo frame in which my family was there smiling at me.

No more picnics, Sunday talks, quarrels and family dinners. I was left alone...

I decided that I would keep my mind busy till everything becomes clear and then start thinking about who could have taken away the colour of my life. Who was so cruel to not even leave a small child?

I spent two hours completing homework and other assignments. I replied to all the messages I had received. I slept finally and woke around noon; the room was dark so I stood to open the curtains.

While I was opening the curtain something caught my eye. The man I crashed into; he …he was there just opposite my house.

There he was again and this time he was looking at my parent’s room. He had a knife in his hand. Suddenly he turned and was looking at my window. I hid behind the window and peeped outside after few minutes..... He was no longer there.

I released a breath of relief that I realised I was holding. It took me some time to get a hold of myself and when I did I dialled Jen's number.

“Jen I saw him.”

“Saw whom?” She asked I could sense the worry in her voice. I thought whether I did the right thing by calling her.

“Amelia, are you there honey? AMELIA?!” Her scream brought me back to reality and I decided to tell her because right now I needed someone and Jennifer is the right person.

So I told her everything that happened and she said she will be over in a minute. She wanted to know if she should inform her parents but I told her not now. Not until we are sure.

-Sean –

I had committed the murder of an innocent family. I took away the dreams of a little girl. Who will ever forgive me even if I tell them the whole truth? I was pulled out of my thoughts when I heard Ken’s voice.

“Sean there is a problem. Boss needs to speak to you. Immediately.” I nodded and went with him to meet the mastermind of this game.

“Sean how many were there in that house?”

I always try to forget what happened but the image never vanishes from my memory. A snap brought me back. “I asked you something and I expect an honest response.”

“Three.” I replied.

“Did you by any chance leave anyone behind showing your kindness?”

“I said no.” I said rather rudely which had him glaring at me.

“Well then you left their eldest daughter behind. You have to kill her.”

“What?! Are you asking me to kill again?”

“Stop being a baby. You have done it before and you can do it again.”

I nodded dejectedly and went back to that house which was a scene of murder but apparently there were no police vehicles there. I wonder why. I looked at the master bedroom and soon felt a pair of eyes on me and looked towards another room and caught a glimpse of an innocent face which I recognised immediately.

I saw her yesterday when I was going back. I crashed into her and didn’t bother helping her even when her doe like hazel eyes begged me to. But there was no longer life in those eyes, it was red and there were bags under her eyes. she looked miserable and helpless. I saw her call someone and I understood I was in deep trouble. I immediately left with the satisfaction that I didn’t have to kill again. At least for now I think.
