Chapter 3: Do I feel the sparks?

The room was tense as nobody spoke a word. Even the elders seemed shaken by the recent information because who would've thought I'll rob McDonald’s?

I clearly didn't but I did eat all those burgers on credit. Not my fault that the owner trusted me.

But that wasn't the only matter which made them totally silent and not even communicating through the mind link.

"This is good, right? Clara finally got a mate." Janice said, breaking the silence and trying to shoo away the tension in the atmosphere.

Alpha gray looked at her, signaling her to not talk. I, for the first time, felt wordless. For a fact, I hardly knew about my parents. The pack members did say a few things about them but it just didn't feel right. It felt like there was something missing even in that bit of the story.

So either, they're in deep thought of unbelieving that I'll finally go from here or they are just thinking about how I ate so many burgers one at a time.

"If you all are thinking about how I ate those 30 dozen burgers. I didn't. Thank you for listening." I blurted out, speeding up my words and pushing myself back to the wall to become one with it.

Alpha gray sighed, "We can't just be silent about this. How do we know she's going to be alright?" He pointed at me as I squinted my eyes at his palm.

What did he mean by if I'm going to be alright? Is it for the burgers I ate?

"She will be but then she isn't a werewolf and he's an alpha." One of the elders spoke, worry lacing in his eyes as he glanced at me.

Okay, something doesn't make sense.

"That too, the first most powerful alpha's packhouse. We don't know whether she'll be able to live there or be treated well by his mate." The other spoke, totally confusing me with the choice of their words.

Are they putting up an act so they don't sound rude or are they genuinely worried..?

"He is his mate, she has to go with him," Janice said, interfering in the discussion.

Did I forget to tell you that Janice is Alpha gray's sister? Of course, I did.

"Whoa! Hold on! What do you mean by I have to go with him?" I asked, finally getting a clue of what they were discussing.

"You're his mate and he will take you with him. Haven't I told you all about mates?" Janice asked, frowning at me.

I gave her an uneasy look, "Yeah, you did but that's not the point. I never said he is my mate."

"The gentleman spoke it on your behalf, Clara." One of the elders said.

"You mean the guy who just blurted out the word mate?" I looked at Alpha gray for an answer. He nodded, "Are you kidding me?!"

"What's wrong?" The other elder spoke.

"He's not my mate. I never felt anything as his eyes laid on me. Not even the slightest connection for him to declare I'm his mate." I said, infuriated.

How can they think I got a mate when I didn't feel anything from my side? He could be lying and probably use me for his personal use.

"How can that be...?" Janice mumbled, staring at her brother, alpha gray, for assurance.

"We'll get it all clear. Bring Alpha Ivan here." Alpha gray ordered his men, the beta of the pack.

"Are you lying just cause you're afraid to leave?" Janice asked me in a whisper.

"Why will I lie? I'm telling the truth. The guy must've been mistaken." I folded my arms, waiting for him to come.

In mere minutes, the door opened as he stepped in with his beta and gamma by his side.

Alpha gray talked to him, silently so that I couldn't hear a word they spoke. Sucks for not being a werewolf.

If truth be told, I was afraid. I've been getting in the line for mate searching but my hopes died way back. Later, I was even too afraid to leave the place that I trusted more than myself. What if others would treat me as a scumbag?

I've had my worries but I didn't show them off to anyone and for now, I hardly trust the guy who says anything about addressing me as his mate.

"Clara, come here." Alpha gray called, gesturing for me to stand near the guy.

I hesitantly walked forward, fiddling with my hands in nervousness. Looking at the guy, he did make me feel nervous which wasn't creepy but more of a... weird overwhelming one.

I stepped in front of him as his eyes tried to search for mine. His smile flattered and all he was worried about whether I'll accept him or reject.

Well not to be rude, I won't really do that but him telling me his mate was kind of unbelievable. For me, at least.

"Okay, I'm here. What do you want me to do?"

"Hold his hand," Gray said and I just wanted to punch him right that moment.

I scrunched my face, looking at the hand the guy held out. He seemed innocent with the constant worry flashing in his eyes and also maybe the eye coloring flickering to his wolf.

I sighed, "Fine." I slowly stretched out my hand and put it in his, slowly lacing them together.

He didn't show any expression except for when his eyes softened. I was kind of lost in his eyes but his hand only felt warm and sweaty.

I snapped, pulling my hand back. "Okay. So I did that and now I will be going to the laundry house."

Alpha gray stopped me, "Wait. Didn't you feel anything?"

"Feel exactly what?"

"The sparks."

"Is that even real?" I asked, getting off the topic.

Janice stepped beside me, turning me over to her. "Yes. I told you about this so many times. Did you feel the sparks or not?"

I heard a little growl behind me, twisting my neck to see it was from the guy who was anxiously waiting for me to say. As his eyes locked with mine, he changed his gaze back to a soft one.

Maybe it's because I look like a kid?

"Clara!" Janice exclaimed.

"Huh, what?" I totally forgot what she asked. What was it again?

"Did you feel the sparks?" She repeated the words again, slower than before.

"Nope."
