[Chapter 6]

~Dairy-free Lasagna~

When I got home last night my parents were pulling up in the drive way, which is luckily in front of the house, but because we have a corner house I snuck to the 'side' which is actually the back where the shed thingy is.

They are super overprotective.

I'm turning 18 in a month and few weeks, but if I leave the house they want there to be parental supervision. And they absolutely hate the fact that I'm only friends with 2 boys.

That being said I'm always at home on a Saturday and Sunday. My parents don't work on Sunday but they both work on Saturday. Which leaves me either alone with Annie or alone.

Which explains my current state of boredom. I've been coding and punching that fucking bag for over 6 hours, and I'm tired... But I don't take naps. So now I'm just laying on a poof chair, watching 'Days of our Lives'.

°°°

As I'm opening the fridge, I hear a knocking sound coming from the front door. Walking over in my sports bra, grey sweatpants and fluffy socks, a water bottle in my hands; I pull the door open just enough to see whose behind it.

I feel the air catch in my throat, no one other than Sam and Justin know where I live so how the fudgepoops does Cole know where I live.

Well judging by the confusion on his face I'd he didn't know I lived here either.

"What are you doing here?" I ask quickly, opening the door to see his full profile. He's taller than me and has a...Pasta bowl? In his hands. I raise my eyebrows.

"You live here?" He says with disbelief.

"You didn't answer my question." I state coldly.

"We just move-" he's cut off by a warm female voice.

"Honey! James did you give our new neighbours the Lasagna?!" She shouts.

"I'm busy! So as I was saying we just move-" his explanation is interrupted again. This time his mother was walking over our lawn and towards us. When she sees me her face lights up with a big grin.

"Hi dear, I'm Lorain, I see you've met my son; James. We'll be living next door, Mr and Mrs McCarthy- my parents- have moved to a retirement home. You're Isabella right?" She babbles without skipping a beat.

I'm slightly stunned so I just smile and nod.

"Yes, but I prefer Issa..." I mumble uncomfortably.

"Okay dear, well they said you were quite close with them and so I baked you some lasagna - without dairy. They really stressed about your allergy. They speak very highly of you by the way. Like you're their granddaughter." She continues to spew words, while Cole just stands there rolling his eyes.

"We are - were close, they really helped me through something's and we've been close ever since. Thank you for the Lasagna, James." I speak politely.

"Yeah..." Cope says through gritted teeth as he hands me the Lasagna.

"Well we best be off, lots of unpacking to do... Oh and if I'm not mistaken the two of you attend the same school right?" Lorain continues to speak.

"Yes, Mrs. Smith." I smile politely.

"Please," she waves her and dismissively," call me Lora."

I nod as she leaves, with Cole standing still. I raise my eyebrows inquisitively as he smirks.

"What?" I ask.

"Oh nothing, Ee-ss-aa..." He draws my name out like it's the most interesting thing on the fucking planet.

"Lord help your soul... wait no ...Shame I think she tried already but it clearly didn't work," I retaliate feigning pity.

He scoffs, then looks down the length of my body before meeting my eyes again, smirking.

"Who would of thought the nerd is s-" I cut him off by grabbing the collar of his sweater and pulling him down to my height so that we stand face to face.

"Shut the fuck up before I smash your face in," I hiss while staring at him threateningly.

He stares at me for a good minute before before he bursts out laughing his head off.

Is he mentally unstable... One step back, Two steps back, hand on door, push door....

The door slams with a thud. I turn and walk to my room,

Fork!

I turn around walking to the kitchen and grab a fork.

Turning around from facing the counter, I look towards the front door to see a smirking Cole leaning against the door.

"Well," he starts, "before I was so rudely interrupted, I was going to say. Who thought the nerd would so, sexy... Issa, wanna share that Lasagna? You're too... tiny to finish it all anyway." He says smirking.

"I'll take that as a challenge then, and I'm not tiny, don't you have unpacking to get to. Your mom an-" I'm cut off by Cole.

"Mom." He buts in.

"Oh sorry I didn't know you had lesbians parents sorry don't worry I'm not judgey or anythi-" I'm cut off...

Again! By him laughing.

"Sorry, wait gimme a minute... Okay .... I don't have 2 moms I meant that my father isn't in the picture if you get me?" He mutters after calming down from his death by laughter.

See what I did there, death by laughter, death by chocolate oh lord I lack in human interaction.

I blame my parents...

"O-kayyy....." I draw out as I turn on the ball of my foot.

"Don't let the door knock your sorry ass on the way out!" I yell as I make my way up the stairs to my room.

Our house is kinda small. I mean don't get me wrong I'm grateful but it's the one thing my mother's always complaining about.

There's 2 bedrooms upstairs, mine and Annie's, both being fairly small. Downstairs is the living room, kitchen, a bedroom (belonging to my parents) and the small bathroom. The kitchen is quaint as well.

I hear the door close, thank goodness gracious that would've been awkward.

°°°

Around 4 I here the familiar jingle of the keys in the door. My parents walk in with Annie by their side.

My relationship with my parents is slightly strained, but that's only when I bring up wanting to leave the house. Other than that they are amazing people to be around, although they do isolate themselves from others.

That's where I blame them for my lack of human interaction.

Annie is like me for the most part, although way more confident and pretty.

She's only 7 and she already has the boys falling head over heels. Unlike me who had 2 boyfriends in secret, I was only in grade 4 so they weren't real. But one of them cheated...

Let's not delve into that shit show.

"Ella were home, are you alive?" My mom shouts standing and the landing of the stairs.

"Gee, I can feel the love!" I retort, bouncing down the stairs after pulling a hoodie on.

"Hey sistee! Miss me?" Annie's straight light brown hair comes into view as she closes the fridge with a tiny yogurt tub in hand.

No that wasn't a spelling mistake

"I hardly survived on my own!" I say sarcastically.

"Oh before I forget," directing my word to my parents who started getting dinner ready, "Mr and Mrs McCarthy moved into a retirement village and their daughter, Lorain, moved in next door. They  brought over some lasagna, but-"

"You ate Lasagna! Dairy?! Come on Ella!! You know-" I interrupted my father who looked like he was about to shit himself.

"It was dairy free, and there's none left for you it landed safely in the hatch though." I said calmly patting my tummy.

Both my parents visibly relaxed while I rolled my eyes.

Luckily for me there was no risk of my parents inviting them over for dinner... Due to our families' lack of socialisation.
