Way too kind

A week later, I met some girls from our neighborhood called Zoe, Sophia and Cynthia. They lived a few houses down. Surprisingly no one lives in the houses around us until two days ago, a family moved in.

One day, we were at Zoe's house chatting about how my daily life was at the city and they were telling me about their daily lives when I remembered about my grandad saying that once I have some friends, I'll know why I can't go far away from the house.

"Zoe why aren't we kids as allowed to go far from here?", I ask

Suddenly, all their faces dropped from happy to serious, like real serious.

"Are you sure you want to know?" they all whispered very quietly

"Why would I ask if I didn't want to know?", I replied

"All right then, once we all went far away from here to see what was down there that banned all children from going down there", Zoe says

"What was down there?" I asked

"People, people who lived around your house, and they have gone crazy", Sophia said

"How?", I asked "I don't understand what you girls are saying", I added

"All of the people were screaming when one of them saw us, and they were saying something similar to another," Cynthia said

"And what is that?" I asked

"They kept saying THERE GOES THE MAN WITH HIS MOUTH FULL OF BLOOD!!!," Sophia said, "it's said that they usually say that the moment they see anyone"she added.

"And I've even heard some people say that it's your grandad....."Zoe said

"NO, it can't be my grandad,"I said laughing"he's WAY too kind to be a person who can drive people crazy."I added

"That's our point, he's a bit WAY too kind"Cynthia said

The place was silent after Cynthia spoke, I looked slowly at all their faces, they were serious and I was confused

"How does a man being way too kind qualify him to be a man that drives people crazy?" I asked and they just looked at each other

"I am so confused!" I exclaimed with a slight groan

"We all are" Zoe said "but you just have to be careful if you're staying here, we don't just talk to anyone and we don't just go anywhere" she added

All this was too much to handle, my grandad? A man that drives people crazy?

Doesn't make sense

"I know you're having doubts--" Sophia started

"Of course I am" I said

"But--"

"I mean I live with him" I said "and do I look crazy?" I asked

"You don't think we're too jobless to start cooking up stories about your grandad, do you?" Cynthia asked

"The whole town knows, ask anywhere you go and they'll tell you" Sophia said

"So why haven't they done something about it?" I asked in confusion

"If you know where a monster lives, would you go meet it and something to it?" Zoe asked and I frowned

"My grandad is not a monster!"

"I didn't say he was, I was making an example" Zoe said with a facepalm

"What if I asked him?" I asked and they all fell backwards, laughing in a shrieking girl manner

"You're kidding, right?" They asked and I shrugged

What if all this was true and what if they weren't?

"All we're saying is be safe" Sophia said and I nodded

"Thanks girls" I said and they nodded

"Anytime"

"Hey Mom" I greeted when she picked up the phone

"Luna, hi " She said and I heard some shuffling at the background

"Are you busy?" I asked and she didn't answer immediately

"Not really " She replied

"Alright"

"So how's the country side? " She asked and I sighed

"It's okay"

"See, told you you'd love it " She said and I knew she was grinning

"I didn't say I loved it, I said it was okay" I said with an eye roll

"Potayto potahto " She said "the same thing "

"How's home?" I asked

"Good "

"Work?" I asked

"Okay " She replied

"How's Michael?" I asked with a smirk and she laughed

"He's fine " She said and I nodded laughing

"Don't do something I wouldn't do" I said as we both laughed

"Shut up! "

"I made friends" I said

"Wow, good for you! " She said "oh, how's grandad? " She asked

"The burial rites are going smoothly" I answered

"What?! " She exclaimed and I doubled over in laughter, slapping my knees

"Luna Midnight Black! " She exclaimed "not funny " she added but she was clearly amused

"Grandad is fine" I said chuckling lightly "he's kinda weird though but he's fine" I added

"Weird how? " She asked

"The other day I was talking to him and he was acting not so normal" I said frowning at the memory

"That's grandad for you " She said

"Does he have some kind of illness that I don't know about?" I asked

"Why didn't you ask him? " She asked chuckling

"I think it's because I love my life" I replied drily

"He's your grandad " She said with a small laugh "why would you be scared of your grandad? " She asked, humor lacing her voice

"Very funny mom"

"So what were you two talking about? " She asked

"His wife" I replied and she gasped loudly

"Grandad talked to you about my mom? " She asked unbelievably

"Yeah, why?"

"He never spoke about her to any of us " She said "not fair " She added with a small whine

"Very matured, mom" I laughed "maybe you should have come to the country side with me" I added

"I stayed with him all my life before I graduated from college and he never once even mentioned her name " She said with a scoff

"Maybe he loves me more than you" I said with a laugh

"My family is weird " She said

Agreed!

"So did he tell you her name? " She asked

"Nah"

"What then did he say? " She asked

"He just spoke about her special cooking skills" I said laughing at the memory

"Not fair, I never heard about that! " She exclaimed

"I feel so bad for him" I said with a sad smile

"Why? "

"He's  so lonely, you should have seen his face when he spoke about her, the smile too and the way his eyes crinkled when he laughed" I said

"Are you falling for my father? " She asked with a laugh

"Mother!" I exclaimed with a laugh "I'm just telling you how lonely your father is, you should be the one here right now" I added

"I'm glad you're the one there, I sincerely think that man hates me " She said

"And you think if he really hated you, I'll be here right now?" I asked with an eye roll

"That's another reason why I sent you there " She said with a laugh and I facepalmed

"So what am I now?" I asked

"You're still my daughter " She laughed "anyways I got to go, thank you so much for calling, I've been a bad mother lately" she added with a small laugh

"Yes" I said agreeing with her and we laughed

"Alright, be good--"

"I always am" I interrupted and she sighed

"Sorry" She said as we laughed "alright bye, love you"

" Love you too" She said and I hung up, sighing and falling back on the bed. A loud knock sounded on my door and I jumped in shock

"Shit!" I muttered taking my hand to my chest "yes?" I answered and the door opened slowly and my grandad peered inside

"Wanna talk?" He asked with a very wide not so normal grin plastered on his face.
