Chapter 3 Why Was This Man So Stubborn?

The palms of Natalie’s hands were sweating again. However, she still explained calmly, “Mr. Winters, I think we can resolve our misunderstanding. Old Master Winters was just my patient. Really.”

He was using that superficial tone again. Natalie could not help balling her hands into fists under the table. Then, she gathered up her courage and continued, “I don’t know what you heard about us, but my relationship with Old Master Winters was merely that of a doctor and a patient.”

She had said so many things, and yet it seemed as if John was ignoring all of it. He only smiled. “I think it’s time you call him grandfather.”

Why was this man so stubborn?

Natalie was so frustrated, and yet the man before her merely lighted up a cigarette elegantly. He took a long drag and asked while smiling, “Do you feel you’ve been wronged by being married to me?”

He could actually ask a question like that…

She bit her lower lip and decided to get straight to the point. “Mr. Winters, I am unworthy of claiming connections with you.”

The man frowned slightly but the expression on his face did not change much. He chuckled lightly. “I want to hear the truth.”

Instead of being modest with this man, it would be better to just be frank with him. Natalie clenched her fists and said, “Mr. Winters, you’re not married but you have a daughter. You have a huge harem and also your heart belongs to someone else. I feel extremely wronged by being forced to marry you, so, I want a divorce.”

Those words were as plain and straightforward as they could be. A long while after Natalie had left, John finally thought back over what she had said. He let out a light chuckle. “Am I being abandoned?”

“President, after this..."

Greg had only finished half his sentence when John stood up and flicked away the cigarette ash on his suit. “Call Director Zanders. Just tell him that I’m tight on money so I won’t be donating.”

The two-faced man’s eyes darkened. Then, he smirked and said, “Of course, it’s to make my disobedient wife come back to beg me.”

One hour later.

Natalie was on duty in the hospital when she got Director Zanders’ call. The man sounded extremely stern over the phone. He did not say much, merely asked her to come to the school.

She got to the school as fast as she could. When she heard what Director Zanders had to say, she was so worried she stood up right away. “Ask my brother to withdraw? Why?”

The minute she said that she realized she sounded too frantic. In order not to offend the director of the school, she lowered her voice and said in a conciliatory tone, “Director Zanders, Howie’s grades have always been good. Why do you want to ask an excellent student like this to withdraw?”

The director sighed. “Miss Snowden, we had no choice but to make this decision.”

“There has to be a reason, right?”

Ahh yes, the reason…

Director Zanders did not want to say much. He only pushed a piece of paper in front of her. “This is the reason.”

She saw that it was John’s number.

Even though John had only called her once, this number was etched into her memory for whatever reason. She could not be mistaken.

“Miss Snowden, of all the people you had to offend, why did you offend this gentleman? Go and beg him, please. Perhaps he’ll even retract his orders.”

Natalie was rendered speechless.

What on earth did ‘retract his orders’ mean?

So John was the cause of her younger brother being asked to withdraw from school!

What a piece of trash!

After fetching her brother home from school, Natalie went into her room to call her best friend. She wanted to ask her to look for another school for her brother.

However, a few days later, her friend had even worse news for her.

“Zo, are you sure?”

Zoey Graham said exaggeratedly, "Of course! My older brother even asked me who you offended. Let’s not even talk about Hua Primary School that Howie’s attending—no school in Hua City dares to enroll your brother.”

When she heard this, Natalie was so angry she trembled with rage.

When Natalie did not respond for a long while, Zoey asked worriedly, “Say something. Who on earth did you offend?”

“John Winters.”

Zoey and Natalie had been friends for more than 10 years so she knew Natalie would not joke about such a thing. However, she still said sharply, “Are you joking? Do you really think you can play the fool with this particular gentleman? How did you offend him?”

“He thought that I seduced his family patriarch.”

“Who? What patriarch?”

“Old General Winters.”

When she heard this, Zoey’s belligerence died down. “Is it because you helped me with my shift last time? When he praised you because of your gentleness and looks and even asked you to be his ‘special caretaker’?”

“What do you think?”

Zoey felt responsible. Over the phone, her tone changed. “So… What are you going to do now?”

What else could she do?

Natalie sighed long and hard. She said in a conciliatory tone, “I’ll go and beg him.”

If there were any other way around it, she certainly would not go and beg John. However, when she swallowed her pride and went to see him, Greg stopped her at the door. “I’m sorry! The president is very busy…”

Who was not busy at the beginning of the year?

Natalie lifted her eyes to Greg and asked frankly, “Is he busy or does he not want to see me?”

Greg’s answer was direct. Natalie got what he meant, so she did not make a fuss, merely asking, “Then what time does Mr. Winters get off work?”

“Any time. However, he can also keep working.”

Natalie nodded. She walked over the sofa and sat down without saying anything. She then asked calmly, “If that’s the case, can you get me a cup of coffee please?”

“You’re…not leaving?”

“I can wait.”

In reality, it was not because she could wait—right now she had no choice but to wait.

Greg looked at her and smiled; he did not say anything else. He asked the secretary to make Natalie a cup of coffee—an extremely large cup of coffee.

Natalie knew that she was going to be here for a while so she had calmed down a great deal. However, after five to six hours of waiting, she could not possibly maintain her composure.

She was always busy at work; this was the first break she had gotten all month. She should be with her brother, but instead, she had to waste her time here.

She was dejected, but the only thing she could do now was wait, wait, and wait…

Even though his boss’s temper was bad, John was a real man when he got down to doing things.

Natalie was the first person that John had treated differently. Not only that, but she was also the boss' wife!

Greg could not help feeling that even though John was giving her the cold shoulder, it was also special treatment. He felt he should at least try to help Natalie.

Because of this, when he went in to report on his work progress, he said nonchalantly, “President, it’s time to get off work.”

“If there’s something you need to take care of, you can leave first. You don’t have to wait for me. I’ll drive myself back.”

“It’s not me; you have something to do.”

John lifted his head and looked at Greg questioningly.

His puzzled expression was genuine. It was obvious that he had completely forgotten about the matter. Greg sighed and reminded him, “Miss Snowden is still waiting for you.”

On hearing that, John lifted his wrist to look at the time. “She hasn’t left yet?”

“Miss Snowden said that she could wait.”

She could wait?

John took his pen and tapped it against his desk. “Let her continue waiting.”

He had waited for three days, so what was six hours?

His boss was not leaving, so his assistant had no reason to leave either.

Therefore, since John was working overtime, Greg also worked overtime. When they were done, it was already 10 pm.

For John, 10 pm was still too early.

When he opened his door, he saw Natalie lying on the guest sofa.

She had not left? She had waited until now?

She really did have patience!

Without thinking, he walked over. When he got to her, he noticed that she had fallen asleep while waiting for him.
