Chapter 16 An Extremely Unfair Contract

He was such a bastard that Natalie had forgotten why he was at the hospital.

They were supposed to move in with the Winters today, so…

When they were on their way to pick up Natalie’s brother, John took out the contract that he had asked Greg to draft beforehand and handed it to Natalie. He instructed her, “Sign it.”

She had not even read the contract!

However, he would only treat her even worse if she said that, so Natalie kept quiet and did not say anything. She took the contract and started reading it carefully.

The reason she read the contract was simple. She was afraid that he would trick her.

However, she had truly misunderstood him this time.

After taking the contract, she realized there were two copies and he had already signed on both of them.

One could hardly make out whether it was John’s signature on the paper, but Natalie knew it was his because the vigorous signature reflected his personality.

The terms of the contract looked reasonable, aside from the one that required her to leave with nothing after divorce. This term did not resonate with this style.

To Natalie, this was not a problem as she originally had nothing. Even if she were to leave the marriage without anything, it was the same as how she was currently. There would not be much of a difference.

This might not be a problem but she was still bothered by another one. She had casually mentioned that day that he should not force her to sleep in the same room with him after marriage, and he really added that in as part of the terms in the contract.

She felt at ease with this but still what he did to her at the hospital’s car park just now…

Could a piece of contract really stop a person like him?

Natalie was not confident. The contract would end after 100 days, but it was not limited to that. It merely meant that if she could prove that she had no relations with Old Master Winters, she would be free after 100 days.

However, if he still did not believe her in 100 days, then it could increase to 200 days, 300 days, or even more.

In addition to that, the person who would decide the time frame was John Winters.

This was extremely unfair.

Natalie pointed this out directly. “Can’t you change this? I guarantee I can prove my innocence in less than 100 days.”

“Since you’re so confident, why should I change it?”

“But if we’re going according to your contract, even if I proved my innocence and you refused to let me go, I still can’t leave.”

“You’re wrong.”

The heartless man pursed his lips together and hit the nail on the head saying, “I don’t even need the contract. I only drafted it because you wanted it. If you don’t want to sign, I’m fine with it.”

He glanced at her unconvinced face and reminded her, “We’re almost at your house. Are you sure you’re not signing this?”

Natalie, “...”

To be honest, he was not wrong.

With John’s selfish attitude, how could she stop him from doing what he wanted to do?

The contract was to safeguard herself. After she signed it, he would not gain any benefits yet he still drafted and prepared it and even signed if beforehand.

Perhaps this was his limit. If she continued to ask for more, he might change his mind and that would be a big loss for her.

Even though the 100-day contract felt like a colossal scam but after weighing the consequences of her not signing it, Natalie reluctantly signed her name neatly on the bottom of the contract.

The process of picking up her brother went smoothly, and Natalie heaved a sigh of relief.

If her brother insisted on not moving with her, she did not have the confidence to convince him to do so.

Fortunately, her brother showed her his reasonable side.

Unbeknownst to her, Howard had already planned out on how to live alone. He gave up the plan eventually, not because he was afraid that his sister would be in a difficult position, but rather he was concerned that his kind-hearted sister would be bullied in a new environment.

He was her sister’s only support. So, even if he was reluctant, he still followed her to the Winters’ family house.

After stepping into the house, he immediately locked himself in his room. He even skipped dinner with the excuse that he had to study.

Natalie felt awkward when she had to face the old master. “I’m sorry. My brother’s quite introverted.”

“It’s fine!”

When he said that, he pointed to his right. “Everyone, sit down and have dinner!”

Before coming to the Winters’ family house, Natalie has asked Greg about the Winters’ household. Greg told her that there was not a lot of people in the household. The old master only had one son, who was John’s father. However, he passed away when he was young.

So, aside from his adopted daughter Becky Winters, there were only four people in the Winters’ family.

They were Old Master Winters, Madam Winters (who was her current mother-in-law), John Winters, and his sister, Jessica Winters. But, today…

Even though the old master asked everyone to sit down, but in reality, it was only him at the table. After John and Natalie sat down, there were only three people dining. However, there were a lot of dishes on the table.

She did not ask why Madam Winters and Jessica were not at home. She only ate her food quietly.

The Winters were strict about manners and they would keep quiet during meals and bedtime. Hence, all three of them were quiet when dining. However, this silence seemed to be otherworldly and lacked human warmth.

Natalie was not used to this. She was glad that her brother did not join them, otherwise, it would probably traumatize her brother’s young and innocent heart.

They finished their meal in silence.

After dinner, the old master was not as cold as before. He called Natalie over to update her on his current health status. Being a doctor and also Old Master Winters’ doctor in charge, she paid full attention to him and explained his condition to him in all seriousness.

However, her serious face looked like she was flirting with the old master in John’s eyes.

Her husband was standing right in front of her and she dared to flirt with his grandfather. The man’s face turned so dark that his features seemed to have disappeared.

He was already very obvious about his dissatisfaction, and yet Natalie did not control herself.

He could not bear it anymore!

Just as she was reminding the old master which vital signs to pay attention to, the overbearing man came forward suddenly.

He lowered his body and carried her bridal style.

His sudden action shocked her so much that she grabbed onto his collar so that she would not fall. “W-What are you doing?”

John ignored her and peered at the old master with deviousness in his eyes. “Grandpa, we’re newly-weds. I’ll get jealous if you keep on occupying my wife like this.”

“What are you talking about? I’m just asking your wife about my health. Is that illegal?”

John scoffed and replied rudely, “Now that you’re done, can I take her away?”
