Chapter 11

It was said that Old Mistress Marshall pampered James the most. Sarah curried favor with Old Mistress Marshall. No one would dare to bully Sarah openly even if she could not do as she liked in the Marshall family in the future.

“Pfft…” a cold sneer came, “even you deserve to find my mum.”

“Roxane, why are you talking like this?” The Old Mistress glared at the girl and stepped forward to hold Sarah’s hand before saying, “Girl, I didn’t know what happened to James until after the incident. You’ve been wronged that day.”

Sarah felt a tingling sensation on her nose as emotions rose. Although she was not sure how much Old Mistress meant it, at least she was the first person who comforted her. “How is he?”

“Not so good. That kid has been a loner ever since he was born. People who he doesn’t like aren’t allowed to go near him. No one would expect that he would have a new life once he met you. He’s too lonely to be asleep all the time, so is it okay if you keep him company?”

Sarah naturally showed respect and nodded after the old woman said that. “Okay.”

“Sarah, I’ll accompany you.” Molly stepped forward and was about to lead Sarah to James’ bedroom. James was hers, so she would never allow Sarah to accompany James alone.

That man was so good looking that she fell in love with him at first sight. Once he woke up, he would be hers.

“Stop.” Old Mistress groaned and then said, “Molly, the doctor said that James’ bedroom shouldn’t be crowded with too many people. It’s enough to have Sarah alone. You sit here and eat some fruit. Dinner will be served later.”

Molly glanced at Sarah and was forced to sit next to Old Mistress.

Sarah followed the servant to the top floor using the elevator.

The faint smell of disinfectant from the hospital wafted over ss the door was pushed open, proving that the owner of the bedroom must have been sick for a long time.

“Ms. Sarah, if you need anything, just ring the bell. We’re here to help.”

Sarah’s gaze fell on the pale-looking James who was lying on the bed. She had not seen him for only a few days. He had lost a lot of weight, and it felt like he was on his last breath.

However, even though his body was full of sickness, it could not hide the noble aura emanating from his bones.

“I remember your voice, Madam Zoe. You were the one who hung up on my call when I requested for James to be picked up from the cemetery that day.” Old Mistress called out to Madam Zoe and asked her to send Sarah to James’ room so she remembered her name.

Madam Zoe trembled and bowed her head heavily. “Ms. Sarah, I’m sorry… I’m so sorry. I didn’t think Young Master would still be alive that day.”

Sarah smiled faintly, and said, “It’s alright. I really don’t blame you for what happened that day.” She did not think she could even bring James back to life. “For now on, I’ll have to bother you with my living necessities here.”

“No trouble, no trouble. Just let me know if you have any requests, Ms. Sarah.” Madam Zoe’s legs weakened due to fear. If Mrs. Marshall and Old Mistress Marshall knew that she had hung up on Sarah’s call that day and delayed the Young Master’s rescue, her good days in Marshall house were about to end.

“Go downstairs,” Sarah demanded faintly. Madam Zoe then left.

Madam Zoe was not quite Sarah’s henchman yet, but since Sarah had something to hold against her, she would serve Sarah to the best of her ability and would not dare to make any mistakes.

The bedroom became quiet. Sarah slowly walked toward the bed and sat down.

She felt five flavors were mixed [1] when she saw James again.

It used to be clear that the two people had nothing to do with each other, but it was impossible to not be related to each other right then.

She gently placed her fingertips on James’ face that was smooth like gelatin. Although it was cold, at least there was human breath.

“James, Molly is already your fiancee and I’m just here to treat you. I don’t know whether you can hear me, but I don’t want to be your mistress so don’t pester me in the future.”

As long as she was with him, the first image reflected in her mind was James wearing his burial clothes.

It was awkward, no matter how handsome he was.

[1] Five flavors were mixed is a Chinese idiom which describes complex or unclear feelings. In this case, she had mixed feelings.
