A tall guy dressed in army green shirt and black jeans stood heroically by the stairs. He had black hair and beautiful green eyes. He was striking.
“You got a problem?” asked the boy.
“This is my best friend’s birthday. I don’t want to create a scene so…” the cute guy started but he was caught off guard when I kicked the boy holding me, between his legs. The boy made a squeaky sound before he passed out. I looked at the cute guy who was completely amazed by what I had just done.
“Remind me not to pick a fight with you,” the guy said, still gazing at the unconscious dude.
“Thank you, for stopping him,” I smiled.
“‘Course,” he said, “I’m Jack,”
“Jack Newton?”
“Yes. Do…do we know each other?” he asked, surprised.
“No…I heard about you from…I’m Anna’s friend, Lilly,”
“Right, I heard about you too,” he reached his out, “Nice to meet you, Lilly,”
I gladly shook hands with him, “Likewise,”
At that very moment, Edward showed up behind Jack. His expression got all serious after seeing Jack and so did his. Edward walked to stand beside me and Jack stepped backward.
What the hell?
“Jack,” Ed’s deep voice made me look at him. He sounded mature and manly. Suddenly everything felt so intense.
“Edward,” Jack replied with a slight nod. He sounded heavy too.
They glared at each other and none of them blinked. I opened my mouth to say something then changed my mind and kept quiet. Jack then blinked and shifted his gaze to me.
“I’ll catch you later,” he smiled.
I retuned him the smile and watch him go downstairs. I looked at Ed with a question look stating ‘what the hell was that???’ he sighed and opened his mouth to say something when his gaze went pass mine. I turned to meet his gaze. He was watching the knocked out boy on the floor. This time he gave me the questioning look.
“Did you do that?” his amusement was all over his face.
“Some other time, we should go”
The party was great. They all had drinks except me. Not that I don’t drink, I wasn’t planning on getting drunk. Jack and I exchanged glances and smiled each time. We played ‘Never have I ever.’
The boys in our group were the gossip for girls. Ron still got a lot of attention from the girls despite being Livy’s boyfriend. He used to be a playboy after all. Ed was busy tonight. I saw too many girls talking to him, dancing, laughing, flirting and some even kissing. I also noticed Beth was a little too comfortable around Jack.
Emily talked to me. That’s when she talked about Ed, about why she liked him. We watched him talk to another girl in the corner.
“He is charming and utterly attractive. He is really tall and his body is perfectly built. He is flirty, caring, very protective, possessive…hot. He can be very intimidating sometimes but he’s as sweet. His smiles and smirks annoy me so much at times but it also makes me adore him. He understands people. At least he understands me. I know he doesn’t feel the same way and its okay. He’s my crush. Crushes go away”
I was standing in the kitchen, deciding if I should have a drink or not.
“Hey!” Jack came towards me.
“Hey” I smiled.
“Thinking of drinking? You should. You’ll enjoy” he said.
Ed, almost startling me came out of nowhere and put his hands on my shoulders. “Can I talk to you?” he said in my ear giving me chills.
Jack sighed deeply and shook his head before going away. Ed led me out the kitchen, stating, “What were you guys talking about?”
“Nothing! You came before we even started”
“Okay. Enjoy the party” he winked and left.
What?
What’s the deal with this guy?? I don’t know about Jack but Ed’s clearly showing he can’t even stand Jack. I decided to ask Anna because asking Ed would be a waste of energy. He can also be very stubborn.
While walking to class, I asked Anna about Ed and Jack.
“Why did something happen?” she replied quickly, concerned.
“No…it’s just that Jack and I were talking…”
“Look, Ed has some history with Jack and he doesn’t talk about it. He’s a great guy, Jack, but try not to get too close with him while Ed his around. He gets personal.” she explained and I nodded.
“Anyways, you heard about the rumors. They are talking about Ed and you together. You guys must be really close huh? Em is going to be really pissed.” She said with a wink.
Yeah, that sure was true. It had been only three weeks since College started. Ed and I became best friends and our ‘so soon attachment’ caught everyone’s attention. Soon the word got out that I was his girlfriend. Like seriously people, don’t you have anything better to do?
(Flashback)
“Ah shit! I’m late for class, again. I’ll see you later,” Anna jogged towards her class. The hall was empty.
“Hey Lil,”
I turned around to see Ed running towards me.
“What’s the hurry?”
“I’m sorry,” he panted.
“What for?” I asked perplexed.
“About the rumors, of you being my girlfriend,”
“I don’t care,” I shrugged. “I mean we aren’t dating so…I don’t care what they say. Why are you all worked up on this?”
He came closer and closer until I was between the wall and him. He placed his hands on the wall trapping me. He brought his face closer. Our faces were only inched apart. He whispered, “So you’re telling me, you don’t mind being called my girlfriend?”
“What’s there to mind? I don’t even mind being your girlfriend.” With that said I walked away with a victory smile.
I turned around to see him. He was standing there looking down and shaking his head and smiling.
(Flashback Ended)
I started looking forward to Friday’s. Ed and I started going to the café since Anna stayed up in College with Andy as she had some of her extra classes. Today she had math.
He and I talked about our rumor, Emily, boys, girls and other usual stuff we could think of. We ordered a cappuccino and a chocolate latté for me. A bunch of high school boys came in. There were five of them. The one in the front, who I could say was the cutest among them, brushed his shoulder against mine as they crossed our table. I could tell that he did it deliberately as the way he smiled and apologized. Ed gave him a pissed off smile. They sat behind me. Ed was giving them a death glare.
If looks could kill, they’d all be dead.
“Ignore them, they are assholes,” I said.
He hummed in response not taking his eyes off.
As we were about to leave the same boy got up and held me from my shoulders as if he was trying to prevent us from bumping. I was about to do something but all of a sudden Ed held him from his collar and shoved him against the counter. The rest of the boys got up and the whole cafeteria was looking.
“You touch her again and that will be the last thing you’ll ever touch.” Ed warned huskily through gritted teeth.
“Ed calm down,” I said.
“Say you’re sorry,”
The boy struggled, “I’m s…sorry I…I didn’t mean to,” he stuttered.
I ignored the boy and forced Ed to come outside. I gave the poor waitress an apologetic smile. She was trembling. She must be a real softie.
“I should break his hand,” he said, angrily.
“You shouldn’t do anything,” I laughed
“Lilly?” someone called. I turned around to see.
“Jack hey,” I greeted.
“What’s up?” he pulled out his earphones from his ears.
He was ignoring Ed. I looked at him to see if that bothered him. It didn’t but he looked annoyed by his appearance.
“Wanna’ have coffee?” he asked, hopefully.
I remembered what Anna told me. And we just had coffee so…
“I’m sorry. We just had coffee.”
“It’s okay. Some other time,”
Ed drove us back. There was silence until Ed said, “You know you could have gone with him if you wanted to” he said seriously.
“Like I said, we just had coffee.” I smiled and looked at him before continuing, “And you should know, I only enjoy drinking coffee…with you,”
He turned to meet my gaze and smiled.
At night, we played the one and only, ‘Truth or Dare.’ They weren’t as many people…well actually it was only the four of us.I know. Sounds boring right? The day was quiet tedious and Anna needed ‘distraction’ because according to her if she did not get a ‘distraction’ she would go mad and kill all of us. Math really does drive people crazy so I don’t blame Anna. She was never really the study or getting good grades type. All that satisfied her wa
The next morning, Anna’s excitement got her up at 6 a.m. which led her into waking all of us after thirty minutes. We left for Montona at 9.Andy was too sleepy and Anna’s energy drained so they both slept at the back while Ed drove and I kept him company. I was very tired but he was too so I decided to stay up.“Go to sleep Lil, I know you’re worn-out. I’ll wake you when we get there,” he said. He saw right through me.
I laughed as Grandma recalled the day when we got invited for dinner over our neighbors and the family started fighting while we were sitting at the table, “Yes. That was rather awkward”“Your friend Edward is handsome? He’s such a decent boy and his voice, his height, he looks sporty.”I looked at her, smiling, “He plays football, sometimes. And I know where you are taking this, Grandma.” After a moment of silence I continued, “He’s my best friend Grandma. We just had a silly fight while comi
Ed and I went over to Danny’s in the late afternoon while Anna and Andy gave company to Grandma. I was happy she could meet my friends. Grandma was enjoying their company and it seemed as if they were enjoying hers as well. It had been a long while since this house was so lively, since Grandma was so active and cheerful. I could tell that Ed was reluctant to go. Why though?“Behave” I whispered to Ed as I rang the bell.
It had been an hour since Grandma had collapsed. We brought her to the hospital and since then I have been striding near the door where Grandma was taken in. The more time passed, the more panic aroused within me. Why did she collapse? What happened? Is she sick? Or is it her age? The questions kept building inside me. I was tapping my thumbs together, impatiently. Anna and Andy were sitting on the chairs, looking at me, concerned. Ed had gone to bring us some juice.
Edwards POVI couldn’t sleep. Her face kept popping up in my mind. She did not deserve this. I had always seen her so happy, always smiling, laughing and always lively that it was so weird seeing dullness in her face, watching her cry. I never thought that I would see her cry. Not so soon at least.
Edwards POV: After the burial Dylan and Tim talked to us guys. Both of them were really nice. Both equally handsome and both were very elegant. One could easily tell they were brothers. I, for one, enjoyed talking to them.“So you
Lilly’s POV:I woke up, still feeling a little dizzy. I was beyond aggravated, planning schemes inside my mind on ways of killing that son of a bagel. My body felt weak but strong enough to punch that mustard fries. I went out when I heard Em’s voice from the lounge. “…thinking of canceling the reservation for Thursday,”
