Chapter 2

 "Hey, Vanessa," Tyler says.

I wave at him and quickly walk away from my friends. I head to my Physics class and take my seat. The bell rings, and a substantial amount of students walk in the room, including Tyler. He sits next to me, and I freeze. I scooted my desk away from his slightly.

"Hey, did you study for this?" Tyler asked.

"No," I lied. I knew Tyler wanted to use me for the answers because he knew I was smart, and I wasn't going to let him cheat off of me just because we were friends.

The teacher handed out the test, and I finished in 30 minutes, just enough time to read my book while waiting for everyone to finish. 15 minutes pass and the bell rings to go to our next class. As I walk out, Tyler halts me.

"Didn't study my ass," he rolled his eyes.

"Sorry, maybe you can cheat off of me next time, or perhaps you can just study. . . for once.” I chuckle.

"Maybe you could help me study," he smirks at me, and my cheeks turned red like a rose. Did he just flirt with me? I thought.

I managed to clear the thought out of my mind before I could read too much into it. As I head to my next class, I notice Derek and Hailee conversing with each other, I head over to them and to my concern, they abruptly stop talking when I come up to them.

 "Hey, sis," Derek said

"What's going on here?" I ask sarcastically.

"Nothing, we were just talking about school stuff," Hailee answers.

"School stuff, what does that even me--"

I was cut off by the bell, and Derek and Hailee trailed off to their next class.

What was that about? I wondered.

I shook off the weird feeling in my stomach, and I headed to my next class. Five periods later, it was time to go home. I walk to the exit of my school and meet Tyler, Derek, and Hailee, waiting for me.

"Hey, guys, what's up?" I ask.

"Nothing much, Hailee and I were just about to go to my house to hang out, you and Derek can come with if you want?" Tyler responds.

"I'm down," Derek says.

I nod my head in agreeance, and we head over to Tyler's red Honda civic. He drives for about 30 minutes until he stops at a medium-sized yellow house with a porch in the front and a curved driveway. We get out of the car, and we enter his home. His house was very spacious; the ceiling had a hanging chandelier when you first walk in, a living room with a blue love seat, and a coffee table in the middle with a flat-screen TV hoisted up on the wall, and a stairway that led to the second floor. On the second level, there were 2 bathrooms, 2 bedrooms, and a laundry room.

"So, what do you guys want to do?" Tyler asked.

"I think we should watch a movie," I answered.

"How about truth or dare?" Hailee said.

"What, why? I asked. That game isn't fun at all."

"Well, I don't really care, Vee. Look, it's all up to Tyler, it's his house, so he should decide." Hailee says. "So, Ty, would you rather watch a lame-ass movie. . . or play Truth or Dare?"

Tyler looked at me as if he was apologizing with his eyes. He looked up and said,

"Let's play,"

Of course, once again, Hailee is getting what she wants to do, it was as if no one could say no to her, not even me. I felt like I was living in her shadow since forever, and I couldn't escape it. We sat down in the living room in a circle, and we began the game.

"I'll go first," Hailee says. "Tyler, Truth, or Dare?"

"Dare," Tyler answered.

"I dare you to take off your shirt," Hailee commanded.

Tyler chuckles and takes off his shirt to reveal his toned fit body. His abs were chiseled to perfection, my cheeks turned red, and I immediately looked away. I felt embarrassed, why would Hailee ask that, couldn't she have asked him to do something a little more G like sing karaoke?

"My turn," Tyler grins and looks at Derek. "Derek, truth, or dare?"

"Dare,"

"Yell out the first word that comes into your mind," Tyler said.

"BREASTS!" Derek yells out. We burst out laughing and continue with the game.

"Vanessa, truth, or dare?" Derek asks.

"Truth," I answer.

"Which player would you like to swap lives with for a week?" He asked.

"Uhh, I don't know, Hails, I guess?" I respond

"Why?" Hailee questioned.

"Becau--"

"Because what? Hailee interrupted.

"Hailee, she answered the question, let's just move on.

"Whatever," Hailee rolled her eyes and folded her arms.

I ignored Hailee's attitude and moved on with the game. I didn't know what her problem was, she was acting like a bitch but then again when wasn't she?

"Hailee, Truth, or Dare?" I asked.

"Truth," she answered.

"What were you and Derek talking about earlier?" I questioned.

"That's none of your business," Hailee sneered.

"Well, last time I checked, Derek is my brother, so his business is my business," I responded.

"Oh, so you're his mom now?! Vanessa, Derek is old enough to have some things kept private." Hailee lashed out.

"If you don't tell me now, I'll find out, and then we'll really have a problem.

"Oh, here comes Nancy Drew, on the case," Hailee said sarcastically.

"How many times have I told you to stop calling me that?!" I said sharply.

"GUYS, ENOUGH! Derek shouted. "Vanessa, just drop it! Hailee's right . . . it's none of your business.

I scoffed and got up from my floor spot, I grabbed my bag, and as I was about to leave, Tyler grabbed my hand. "Don't go, Vee." He stared at me for what felt like an eternity. I felt my face heat up, I hated this.
