Chapter 97: Escape Through the Tunnels
There was a flash of yellowish flight and Eldion looked around to see what it was. What he saw made his eyes open wide and his jaw drop. Kora’s huge wings were flapping wildly as she hovered over the courtyard. She had opened her beak and there issued what appeared to be a stream of fire. Soon, tall flames rose between the imperial soldiers and the area in front of the courtyard, stopping the imperial soldiers from going any further.
Eldion saw Kora land on the ground and was quickly patted by Lankko as if to praise her for what she did. Enzir held on to Kora as well and talked excitedly with Lankko. Their words could not be heard, but it seemed to Eldion that they were expressing their own surprise at what Kora could do.
Eldion felt a pat on his shoulder and realized that it was Casser calling him to come with him to the tunnels. Wen was standing next to him, also gazing at the wall of flames created by Kora to defend the entrance to the tunnels. The flames flic

Casser realized that he would not be able to get through the gap in time and stopped struggling as he reached for his long knife that was dangling from his belt. Remuel melded into the forest with his outlaws and the area around the waterfalls became clear of any sign of human activity. The small hole that served as entrance to the tunnels was very well hidden under a thick curtain of vines that it would be impossible to find for anyone who did not know that it was there.Eldion felt the wind blow and heard the rustle of leaves as the branches of the trees swayed. Perched on one of the branches was a white pigeon like those that he had inside the cage. Wen woke up from a gentle tap on her arm. She opened her eyes and saw Casser above her, rousing her to wakefulness. The lamp inside the cart had been extinguished by Mira before she went to sleep and it was dark. There was some light, however, that came from the fire outside and reached the leather cover of the cart such that Wen was able to immediately identify Casser.“I’m awake, Casser.
