Chapter 3: Come Again, What?

Chloe's POV

I can't help but smile as I watched the stupid kid's face turn a bright shade of red both from the embarrassment he's faced with and the pain caused by my first.

Maybe he's right, I might have a bit of an anger management issue.

Or maybe it's just him and his immature antics.

Can you blame me? I've been holding it in since this morning and a girl can only handle so much. Seeing him in that state ignited something inside of me.

"What? What now? Where is that arrogant jerk that blocked me in the hallway earlier, huh? The one mocking me in English?" I mocked.

"I never would've guessed you're a pussy, a total pussy! I only threw you one punch." I lifted my finger. "One! And now you're completely speechless. You should have told me that the only way to shut you up is by punching you straight to the face so I would've done it earlier."

"What is going on here?" a voice boomed.

The attention quickly shifted from Mason and I to the man standing at the entrance of the cafeteria.

When did he come in?

Was he there the whole time?

Did he saw what I did to the stupid kid's face?

"Break it up children." He made his way to us. "Both of you in my office ,now. "

We followed the principal in silence to his office.

Though I might get in trouble for what I did, I can't help but feel a bit proud for what I did to him.

That ought to put him into place.

"So... What happened?" the principal asked.

I waited for Mason to speak and explain what happened but he sat there with his hand cupping his face staring at the floor.

He might be in shock.

"This guy." I pointed to Mason. "Has my phone, and refused to give it back."

The principal turned at Mason with a look in his eyes that says Is-this-true?

"Well?" I pressed, being proud and all coz I know I'm right.

He sighed and looked up.

"Yes." he mumbled.

"Why didn't you just give it back to her?" the principal asked.

"Becau-"

Mason never got a chance to explain because he was cut off by a knock on the door. Shortly, a man in a suit entered the room.

Suddenly, the atmosphere changed.

The man in the suit looked mad.

Who is he?

Shock and panic registered on the principal's face as he watched the man who came in walk towards him.

"Dad?"

"Mr. Mayor!" they almost said at the same time.

A revelation.

He's the Mayor's son?

That would explain a lot.

Wait, if he's here. There's a high chance my parents would be informed about this little incident. What would my parents think? I never really got into trouble in school until now. They probably would think they have a psychotic bitch that punches people for the lightest reasons for a daughter.

I could just imagine the headline of the local newspaper.

'Psycho Blonde student punched the Mayor's son because he wouldn't give her phone back'

I composed myself.

There's really nothing for me to be afraid of. I'm the one in the right.

You could even say I'm a victim of his scheme.

"Imagine my surprise when I got call while in a meeting, telling me that my son punched a girl in the face. A girl!" he yelled.

"What?!" We exclaimed.

"No, dad sh-" he tried to defend himself. He silenced his son by raising a hand and turned his attention towards the principal.

"What's his punishment? Suspension? Expulsion?" he asked the principal. "I think it should be expulsion, uh huh... that should teach him a lesson then I'll send you," he turned to Mason. "to military school."

To be honest, I don't know how to react.

I know I'm not supposed to laugh in this situation. Which is why I tried my best to contain myself, but the look on Mason's face isn't helping at all. He looked annoyed and embarrassed at the same time.

His father obviously doesn't have the slightest idea about what really happened.

"Sir, I'm sorry but you got it all wrong. She's the one who punched your son." the principal informed him.

I gave him an awkward wave.

"Hi." I timidly greeted with an awkward smile on my face.

He looked at us back and forth.

Then he spoke.

"Leave us," He requested. "I want to talk to her alone."

I sat in silence while Mason and the principal exited the room.

My mind ran wild trying to come with words to explain myself, to tell my side of the story. He needs to know that it was all his son's fault and that he deserved that punch.

"Let me just say that-" he raised his hand to silence me. He walked over to the principal's table and sat on the chair.

"Whatever explanation you prepared, I don't want to hear it." he stated, loosening his tie.

"But it wa-"

"Let me finish, because I think whatever the reason is? My son may have deserved that punch. "He chuckled.

"It was his fau- Wait what?"

I'm confused.

"This is a breath of fresh air. Normally, the news I receive is about my son being late, failing and all that stuff. But, this is new." He paused. "I like it. It was a good excuse to leave the meeting I was in." he chuckled.

The moment I realized that Mason's dad was the Mayor this wasn’t the kind of person I had in mind. The image I had in my head was of a strict man, protective of his family.

Seeing how Mason acted, I thought his father tolerated that kind of behavior from him.

Maybe I watched too many drama series.

He wasn't exactly what I expected him to be.

"Say," he continued. "Wanna be friends with him?"

He wanted me to be friends with his son?

Back up.

Is he crazy?

A day hasn't gone by yet and I've already hurt him, twice! Not to mention how constantly annoying he is.

His son brings out the killer in me.

Literally.

"I'm sorry, sir. But I don't think that's a very good idea." I suggested.

"I know it's not common for a parent to ask this kind of thing."

You bet, I thought these things only happened in the movies.

"If it's money you need, I'll pay you."

I'm offended.

"I don't need money." I sternly said.

"How about college?"

"I told you, I don't need money."

"I'm sorry if that offended you but that's not what I meant. I mean I could write you a recommendation letter if you want. Surely that would be enough, a big advantage for you to get into your dream college." he persuaded.

Should I accept his offer?

I mean it's not like money, right?

A letter of recommendation from the Mayor of the town is a big plus points if I want to go to Brown, or to any college for that matter.

"So?" he asked. "Do we have a deal?" He extended his hand to me.

"Deal." I shook his hand.

"Great. Now, will you please call them? I would like to have a word with all of you." He instructed.

Mason's POV

Stupid.

That's what my father is, stupid.

He actually thought I would hit a girl?

I sighed.

One day.

It only took Blondie one day to successfully embarrass me in front of everyone and make me look bad in the eyes of my father. That girl is definitely something.

The doors opened and out came Blondie. She instructed us to come back in.

I can't help but wonder what they talked about.

Dad sat comfortably on the principal's chair when we entered. I took the seat next to Blondie.

"I apologize for the misunderstanding earlier. I didn't mean to barge in like that." My father stated. "Principal Conner,"

"Yes Sir?"

"I want this two to be paired in every activity, project or research there is. Please inform their teachers."

Has my father lost his mind?

Doesn't he realize how violent this girl is?

I could get killed for crying out loud!

"Dad no! You can't do that!" I argued.

"Yes I can, I'm the mayor." he smugly said.

And he wonders why I'm so cocky.

"She hates me, Dad! Blondie hates me!" I looked at Blondie for help. "Tell him! Tell him how much you despise me Blondie! Say something!" I pleaded.

"Something." she shrugged, her voice full of sarcasm.

Unbelievable! What did they talked about? What did my Dad told her to make her this calm?

This can't be right; a moment ago she wanted to rip my head off and now she just willingly allowed my father to do this and not a peep of protest coming out from her.

"Okay? So it's settled then. You will be partners for everything." He stood up and made his way to the door. "Good talk." He acknowledged. Like always, he exited like the politician he is.

"So that's settled. You heard your father. So... I heard Ms. Lulu gave a project to the whole senior class. She will be your partner now." The principal cleared. "I'll just inform Ms. Lulu about this change, you could go back to class now."

Great.

Just great.

I'm stuck with Blondie for 3 months.
