Chapter 8 Announcing The Marriage

Elsewhere, in the Jennings home.

The living room was full of people, including the elderly Sylvia Walker, the father Shaun Jennings, the mother Sally Youngs, as well as Jason Morton’s sister, Hayley Morton, and several of Celine Jenning’s friends as well.

Celine and Jason sat on the sofa at the side. The atmosphere was slightly gloomy.

“Celine, if you ask me, you’re too easy to bully! My brother and you are in love, how dare she do such a thing? She knew very well how sensitive your identity is, yet she still called the police to arrest you. Isn’t it obvious that she wants to ruin you?”

“That’s right. Besides, the fact that she’s fooling around with another man right after breaking up with Young Master Morton just proves that she’s not a good person!”

“Celine, you’re at a disadvantage because you’re a public figure. Now, everyone is talking about your affairs all over the Internet, saying that you were seduced by Young Master Morton or that you were abusing drugs and so on. All that is clearly false, so you have to think of a way to fix this quickly.”

“Yeah! Nell called the police deliberately. You can’t be pressured by her!”

Celine cast a pitiful and delicate glance at Sylvia who was sitting at the head. Her fair and white face easily revealed fragility and sorrow.

“What can I do? My sister insisted on doing this, so I can’t force her. After all, we’re family. If we fight, the ones troubled would be grandmother and mom and dad.”

Sylvia gave her a look of approval at her words.

Shaun Jennings growled in anger. “Why would I be troubled? You treat her like an elder sister, but why don’t you ask her if she has ever seen you as her younger sister?”

“Uncle, don’t blame her for this… It was my fault.”

Jason frowned and spoke calmly.

Celine hurriedly refuted, “No, I’m the one in the wrong. If I hadn’t fallen in love with Jason, my sister wouldn’t have…”

“Celine, that’s not what I meant.”

Jason stopped her and said in a low voice, “What I meant was that we should have told her earlier. We shouldn’t have dragged this out just because we were worried about hurting her. It’s because I didn’t handle this properly that caused you to be wronged.”

Celine suddenly felt touched and looked at him gratefully. “Jason…”

“Ahem!”

With a light cough, Sylvia wore a smile on her face and turned to Jason.

“Young Master Morton, things have already come to this point, and you’ve seen the public opinions on the Internet. It’s impossible to just treat this as a small matter now. What are your thoughts on the current situation?”

Jason’s expression was heavy. Celine clenched her fingers quietly, appearing a little nervous.

“Ma’am, you can rest assured that I won’t let Celine be wronged any further. When I go back, I’ll immediately have someone issue a statement announcing my relationship with Celine.

Sylvia looked delighted.

Sally and Shaun also became excited. Only Celine showed a trace of worry in her delicate eyes.

“But everyone outside knows that you’re already engaged. Will they believe us?”

Jason held her hand and explained, “Although everyone knows I’m engaged, not many know who my fiancee is. All I have to tell them is that the marriage contract was originally made with you and that you’re my fiancee. No one would have anything to say then.

Only then did Celine reveal a touch of joy.

However, the next second, she frowned again.

“But sister…”

“Don’t worry about that! I’ll handle your sister.”

Sylvia’s tone held the authority she cultivated for many years.

“There’s no need for Young Master Morton to announce it on the Internet, lest unnecessary trouble pops up again. Isn’t the day after tomorrow Celine’s birthday? We’ll hold a party and invite a few reporters, so just announce it on her birthday.”

Jason nodded. “Alright, I’ll do as you say.”

“You should also go back and discuss this matter with your parents. After all, it’s a matter of marriage. It won’t be good to make decisions on your own.”

“Please don’t worry. They’ve already agreed to it. My parents also like Celine very much.”

“That’s good.” Sylvia’s face finally showed a touch of relief. “Stay and have a casual lunch with us!”

Jason stood up. “There’s no need. I still have some matters to deal with at the office, so I’ll come another day.”

“Young Master Morton is young and promising. In that case, I won’t force you to stay.”

Sylvia looked at Celine. “Celine, send the Young Master off.”

Celine stood up obediently. “Yes.”

It was only after Celine and Jason left out the door that Sylvia’s expression sank.

She put away her smile and looked fiercely to her left where Shaun was sitting, and said, “Give that cold-hearted daughter of yours a call and tell her to come home tonight.”

Shaun quickly agreed. “Yes.”

Nell hung up the call after discussing the matter with someone over the phone.

Unexpectedly, as soon as she hung up, the phone rang again.

She was slightly surprised and looked at the two words of the caller ID on the screen. Her brows raised.

Her appetite disappeared in an instant.

She answered the call and said casually, “Dad.”

“You still know that I’m your dad!”

Shaun’s thundering voice came from the receiver, and Nell could not help but pull the phone away from her ear.

Then, she simply put it on the table and pressed the speaker button.

“Do you need something?”

“When did you come back?”

She drooped her eyelids and replied softly, “Why do you ask?”

“You still dare to say that? You didn’t even inform me when you returned to the country. Do you even think of me as your father? Do you even think of us as your family?”

Nell raised the corners of her lips in mockery. “Mr. Jennings, if I remember correctly, I gave you a call when I just returned.”

Shaun paused.

Then, he said uncertainly, “When did you call me? Why don’t I remember it?”

Nell scoffed softly and smiled wryly.

Ever since Celine returned, Shaun never paid attention to Nell. She knew that already.

However, she never expected him to be indifferent to this extent. He even forgot that she had called him when she returned.

What was more ridiculous was that now he actually came to question why she did not inform him that she came back.

Shaun obviously realized his mistake and was a little embarrassed.

“Alright. The company has been expanding its business for the past two years, and I’ve been so busy all day that I might have forgotten. As a daughter, can’t you be understanding of your father? You’ve been back for so long yet you’ve never come home to check in. What kind of attitude is that?!”

Nell could not be bothered to debate with him and asked coldly, “What do you want?”

“I…” Shaun was enraged by her cold tone, but thinking of her temper, he finally suppressed his anger.

He said stiffly, “Your grandmother asked you to come back for dinner tonight!”

“No thanks.”

“What did you say? You’re still a member of the Jennings family. What’s wrong with calling you back for dinner? Do you need me to go over there and escort you over?”

Nell smiled coldly. “The very same family that has never remembered me during festivities suddenly called me to come home to dinner. I’m worried that someone might put rat poison in my food and kill me.”
