Chapter 07

ZION

Who would of expected that I, Zion Collins, would get laid on the first day in a new school. It didn't even take me that long. It was a new record for me. I'd admit, it was unconventional and pretty risky to do it behind the bleaches but it worked out just fine. That Megan girl got what she wanted and I got what I wanted.

Everything about that school seemed to be dull and boring like every other except this one had many more promiscuous girls than the other schools I had the displeasure of attending.

One girl, however, had a different energy to her. She was unlike anything I had ever encountered. She was different from every mortal I encountered. I had the same effect on her as I did with everyone else but there was just something about her. I couldn't put my finger on it.

She was strikingly beautiful, entrancing me the moment my eyes met her greyish orbs. Her luscious, dark hair curled and cascaded down her back and shoulders, hiding her heart shaped face away as if she didn't want to be seen. She had well sculptured cheekbones, sharp and high. Her full lips were the most delicate thing I had ever laid my eyes on and her slender figure which she covered up with too much clothing.

Just by a simple evaluation of her looks I could tell she was nothing like I had seen or encountered before. I could feel the amount of warmth and goodness she radiated off her. It wasn't as strong as the amount my mother radiated but it was there nonetheless.

The angel in me made me a pretty good judge of character. An angel could sense how much a mortal sinned according to the amount of light omitted off them. Light energy is heat and therefore the more good you do the stronger the heat that radiates of you. But only an angel could sense that. To mortals, all humans had the same body heat and if your temperature was too high then you were usually running a fever.

It was one of the reasons I was always cold. The amount of sins on my list just kept piling up which encouraged the demon in me. I refrained from my mother's touch because the heat she radiated was too much for me to bare and yet when Alina Hart was close to me I actually felt comfortable. There was something about her and what ever it was I would make it my duty to find out. I needed to know why I, for the first time, was attracted to a mere mortal.

"How was your first day?" My beautiful mother asked as she barged into my room, gushing like a school girl. She was full of energy, her skin a tanned colour and her chocolate brown locks curled to her shoulders.

Oh my sweet, sweet mother!

I found her excitement a bit too amusing as a laughter rumbled out of me which caused my mother to pull her face and pout. She looked so adorable when used that face. It was her way of getting dad and I to do things for her.

"It was all good mum. Why are you out of bed? You should be resting," I chastised, recalling the incidents that didn't happen not to long ago. My mother might have been a doctor and an angel that took care of other people but she never took care of herself.

She swatted my arm lightly, "You worry too much about me, " she then paused at her gaze dipped to my folded arms that were underneath my head, "You're getting pretty buff," she grinned as she tried to squeeze my biceps.

Shifting my position on my bed and perching myself up on my elbows, I cheekily grinned, "Your son is a growing boy."

My teasing earned me a playful glare as my mother began to ruffle my already disheveled hair, "Have you done your homework?" She asked in an authoritative tone. It amazed me at how she could switch from playful to motherly so quickly.

I sheepishly grinned, "Of course I have mom." The day I did my homework would probably be the day the world came to an end. I found no need to do homework since most of the sections I would be learning this year I learnt about three years ago. My brain computed knowledge at a fast rate. I was practically learning varsity level math at home.

"You of all people should know better than to lie to me Zion!" my mother gave me a less than impressed look, shaking her head as she knew I was up to my old antics yet again.

I was about to reply to my mother when my father showed up at the doorway with an excited expression covering his face. It was very rare that my father showed his excitement so when he did it was something worth paying attention too. Matter of fact, it was rare to see my father smile. My mother was the only one who got to see him smile everyday whereas I caught a glimpse of his smile at most three time in my entire seventeen years of existence.

"Outside! Backyard! Now!" He gleefully beamed before running down the hall. His heavy combat boots thumping on the hardwood floors in a way that could have driven a whole through it if there wasn't a cement base underneath.

"But there's going to be a storm out," I yelled, getting of my bed and sliding on the waxed hardwood floor with my newest pair of batman socks to the threshold of my doorway.

"Exactly!" He remarked and I could hear the excitement in his deep voice.
