Chapter 6

Inka's Point of View

"Are you sure that you are okay?" Read asked for the hundred times, I rolled my eyes and laugh at him.

"Yes, Read. I am. Quit asking okay, I'll tell you when I feel something is wrong." I assured him

He nodded and continued driving. I leaned back at my seat and looked outside.

Berserker? I wonder what that means.

*Flashback*

"What are you doing here, Andrew?" Read asked as he was eyeing Andrew like he did something wrong.

"Am I not allowed here?"

Read didn't answer him, he just stared at him like he is reading him. His jaw clenched, fist tighten.

"No. Anyway we should get going, I'll see you at our headquarters." Read said and looked at him one last time before dragging me out of the parking lot.

I looked back at Andrew and saw him smirked at our way then he turned his back and walked away.

*End of Flashback*

I took my phone out of my bag and opened my online dictionary. I typed 'Berserker' and a lot of meanings appeared but there is one thing that caught my attention.

Although similar groups have been found around the world, berserker generally refers to the small class of Nordic peoples who could be found preforming inhuman feats on the battlefield. When in combat a berserker would fight nude and/or completely unarmored, sometimes taking the skins of bears, wolves or other beasts to heighten his appearance. Uncontrollable rage is the signature of the berserker. To enter this rage many would have pre-battle ceremonies in which they would consume alcohol, and work themselves up into a violent, bloodlusting mood through dance and similar actions, and then often take psychoactive drugs to make them, in combination with the mighty rage, immune to pain and personal hurt. As a result, these fierce warriors would not back down when injured or against overwhelming odds, and be completely numb to pain and the killing that they were doing.

I still don't get it. Does this mean Read kills people like a Berserker? So is my instinct right? That he is dangerous?

"You seem perplexed. Is anything wrong?" Read suddenly asked.

I looked up at him from my phone, he was still looking on the road, too focused on his driving yet concern was written on his face.

"N-No. Nothing, I was just texting my friend and I felt bad for cancelling a plan last minute." I said

He nodded so I looked back down at my phone and reread the paragraph. Should I ask him? Would he tell me the truth? What am I to him anyway?

I heaved a sigh and leaned back again. What kind of a situation had I get myself into?

"I feel like you want to ask something to me." Read suddenly stated that made me looked at him.

He was looking at me as we stopped at a red light. His eyes were digging inside me, reading me like an open book. His dragon eyes that can see right through my mind and soul.

"Can I trust you, Read?" I asked.

He was taken aback from my question, I saw how his emotion swirl from shock to confused then it disappeared.

"No." He answered and looked straight at the road.

"No you can't." He added as the light turn green.

For a moment I saw his fear but even before I could decipher it, it was gone.

Who are you, Read?

Who are you?

Read's Point of View

I was driving towards my headquarter as I remembered Inka's question a while ago.

After dropping her off at my penthouse, I told her to stay in there for a week as we try to investigate the threats on her life.

It was a lie.

I surely know why she's been threaten. Its because she saw something, heard something and know something that she shouldn't. And unless she's dead, they wouldn't stop to try and get her.

I gripped my steering wheel tighter. I f*cked up and I know it. I shouldn't have brought her to my main house specially that I knew danger lurks in every corner of my life.

"Can I trust you, Read?"

Trust?

No! Of course she can't. Trust is something the you can't give to anyone specially if its a Mafia King.

We break Trust. We kill and that's how life run if your a King of the Underworld.

"You, My child will rule my kingdom when I die. You will be called as the Berserker. A warrior known for their inhuman way of fighting. Your empire will reign! And they will fear your kind."

I can still remember what my father had said. And he was right, when he was killed on his last mafia war, his empire was given to me and from that day on people know me as the Berserker.

I had killed tons of Men, those who had betrayed me, fooled me, took something from me and those who tried to take my position.

But one thing that I'll never do is hurt a woman and children. No Women, No Children that's a code that my empire shall always remember.

"Son, when the time comes and you need to a queen that will rule beside you. Pick someone who is like your mother. Someone who is broken and had gone through hell back and forth because those are the strongest one. They are the bravest for facing the demon and had never given up."

I smiled to myself. Feisty yet fragile, I saw those features to Inka. She was the only one who can defy me, who can reject my charms.

She's like a flower, so delicate yet has her own thorns. I can see a fighter within her, she just doesn't know how to release it.

I need to train my future queen but for now let me protect her. It feels good to see her cling to me like her armour.

I let out a chuckle and shook my head. I'm starting to go crazy on her.

My phone rang, I took a glance at it and saw Wayne's number.

I answered it and put him on speaker.

[Read.]

"What?"

[My men found something on your Main House. It may lead you to the killer of your brother.]

My fist tighten its grip as I can feel my bloodlust. I want to badly kill someone.

"I'm coming."

I'll kill them all. Those who had touch my family, those who threat my queen. I'll kill them and it will be the last thing I'll do.
