CHAPTER IV FIRST DAY OF PUNISHMENT

Lucy’s POV

“Can we take a photo together?” a student asked me when I brought the food that he ordered.

It’s the first day of our punishment and unluckily, Raffy and I were assigned to be in the kitchen.

I was in-charged of serving the foods that the students will order since I can’t afford to be in the kitchen. I might end up burning the whole school if I ever tried to cook.

I thought serving the foods would be a lot easier but It’s so tiring to always put a smile on my face especially whenever the students ask me to take a photo with them.

“So, how’s the first day of being a school waitress?” Rafael teasingly asked me when I put the tray back on the counter.

I just rolled my eyes at him and the bastard just laughed.  For all I know, he’s so happy that he got to fulfill his ultimate dream to be a chef.

‘Girls, have you heard the news?’

I turned around to see the four girls sitting just right next to me.

Their hairs were all painted with red and their faces are full of heavy make-ups. They look-like some sluts in a bar.

‘What’s the news again, Hannah?’ asked the girl with curly hair while scrolling down on her phone using her thumb.

‘Prince Lucifer is the new librarian!’ said the girl with the super red lipstick named Hannah.

L-Lucifer?

The other three girls were so surprised that their eyes seemed like as big as their red heads.

‘What are we still doing here, then?!’

‘Let’s go and see our prince!’

What the hell?!

I quickly put the bowl of chicken soup on the tray as I stride towards the red-head girls who are excitingly packing their things up now.

“WHAT THE FUCK?!!” shouted the girl named Hannah when I intentionally poured the soup on her uniform.

“Oh my gosh! I’m really really  sorry Miss!” I said while pretending to wipe the stain on her uniform using the table napkin.

“You stupid waitress! what do you think you’re doing huh?!” she growled like a monster right on my face.

What did she just call me?!

A stupid?!

“You should give that girl a lesson Hannah.” Said the other girl with little eyes.

I wonder if she can still see with that eyes of her.

“Hey girls, let’s go to the library now!”

Hannah looked at that girl with disgust on her face. “Are you fucking kidding me? Do you think I can show myself to Prince Lucifer like this?! You’re such an idiot!” She yelled.

As if Lucifer would even lay his eyes on her.

She suddenly looked at me so I gave her my sweetest fake smile.

“You little freak, you’ll gonna pay for this!”

He raised her right as if she was about to slap my face but I’m swifter than her so I was able to grab her hand. “I already said I was sorry, isn’t that enough? Do you even know who I am?” I whispered in her ears.

She’s now aching with pain because of how tight my grip on her hand is. “I-It hurts…! Girls! W-what..are you doing.. t-there?! Help me here..!”

Her three friends are about to take a hold of me so I stopped them. “Go ahead and try to even lay a hand on me, and you’ll surely get kicked out of this school in no time.” I warned them.

“WHO THE HELL ARE YOU?!” asked the girl with curly hair.

“Lucy!”

Rafael suddenly appeared so I quickly let go of Hannah’s hand.

“Y-You are”

The red-head girls are all looking at me with their eyes wide open.

I smiled at them and turn around to Raffy. “Nothing. Let’s go back to work now Raffy. Dean might scold us if he figured out that we’re wasting our time to some nonsense things.”  I stated then wove my way back to the counter.

Tch that sluts! As if they can beat me! Lucifer will never pay even a tinge of attention to those kinds of women.

Speaking of my Lucifer, I wonder how things are going there in the library. I hope he’ll never try to hurt best friend Angela again.

Angela’s POV

“Goodmorning!” I greeted Lucifer as soon as he entered the room.

He just walked past me and went to the bookshelves to find some books to read.

So, he likes reading books? Wow, how nice of him.

This is the very first day of our punishment and I feel kind of nervous since I know that Lucifer hates me. I even decided to come here early so that I will be able to clean the whole library and put the books back to their designated sections. In that way, at least, Lucifer’s anger towards will be lessened and we can spend the whole semester here in the library without hurting each other.

I wonder how’s Lucy and Rafael by now? Well, for Rafael it’s a piece of cake to cook since he’s too passionate about it. I hope someday Rafael’s personal recipes will get to know by so many people. He’s so good and he deserves to be recognized.

I just hope Lucy wouldn’t hurt herself by working in the cafeteria…

The glass door of the library opened then two girls went inside.

“Good Morning.” I smiled at them but they just ignored me and walked straight to the shelves so I called out. “Excuse me? You have to log in first and present your library card if you want to read or borrow a book..?”

The three girls glared at me as they languidly paced towards me and start writing their names on the logbook.

“Happy now?” The other girl wearing a very skimpy skirt said as she throws her library card at me.

“T-Thank you hehehe..”

I wonder if they really went here to read..

‘Omg! He’s really here!’

‘Is he sleeping?’

I saw the two girls giggling while looking at Lucifer who’s currently sleeping while leaning on one of the shelves with a book on his lap.

‘He’s sooooo handsome!’

‘He’s way more handsome up-close!’

‘Should we take a photo of him then?’ said the other girl while rummaging his handbag.

I glanced at Lucifer and he’s still sound asleep.

Maybe he did not sleep well last night.

‘click!’

‘click!’

The two girls started taking pictures of Lucifer.

“E-Excuse me? Taking pictures inside the library isn’t allowed here..”

They stopped taking pictures and looked at me with annoyance. “What do you want from us again, you grandma-looking girl?!”

G-Grandma-looking?

“I-I just want to remind you that

One of the girls pushed me but luckily, I was able to maintain my balance not to fall down.

“Could you just back off you cheap girl?!” shouted the other one to me.

“Sorry, but I’m just doing my duty as a librarian so please just follow the rules and keep your phones. And also, Lucifer will surely get mad at you if ever he got disturbed. He’s so frightening when he’s mad so if I were you—

“Fuck off! You don’t know to whom you’re dealing with so IF I WERE YOU, I’LL FUCK OFF NOW before I change my mind and take that fucking hairs on your scalp!” she said while continuously pushing me until I sank down on the floor.

Her friend was about to kick me when the door opened.

“What’s happening here?!”

A lady about the age of 30 came inside the library carrying so many books with her. Her hair is green and she’s wearing an all-denim outfit.

“M-Ms. C-Courtney?” said the two girls with surprised faces.

“Amanda and Hailey?! What are you doing to our librarian?! Do you want to go to the Dean’s Office for the third time huh?!” she shouted at the two girls.

Amanda and Hailey freaked out upon hearing her reprimands and quickly ran out of the library.

“Are you alright dear? Stand up there.” She softly said to me.

I stood up and help her carry those books she’s clutching. “T-Thank you M-Ms. Courtney..”

She started putting the books back to its shelves as she spoke. “Those two girls are one of the most mischievous students here in Chasung. They already received three punishments from Dean but still, it seems like they are born to annoy the shit out of all the people in the world.”

I began arranging the books in the shelves too.

I took a glance at Lucifer and saw that he’s still sleeping.

Good thing he’s a deep sleeper..

“So, what brought the Evil Prince here?” she suddenly asked. “By the way, what’s your name again?” she added.

“I’m Angela Santos ma’am..” I politely responded.

She shifted her eyes towards me, looking surprised. “You’re the one who punched the evil Prince?”

I nodded.

I bet she’s thinking that I’m a trouble-maker student now.

“HAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAH!”

I almost jumped when she suddenly burst into a laughter that’s so loud and even sounded like a snort of a pig.

Did I say something funny?

“Oh, pfffttt hahaha! Sorry Angela. I-I just pfft I just can’t stop laughing! Hahahaha!.”

I just stared at her with a puzzled look on my face until she finally stopped laughing.

“You are so brave, Darling. I was really amazed by you hahaha!”

“Ehehehe… Actually, that’s also the reason why we’re here.. Dean assigned us to be the school librarians for the rest of the first semester as our punishment.”

“Oh really that bald man. He never changed. A consistent shithole.”

She seems to like cursing a lot.

She’s so cool!

“By the way, I gotta go now. See you around and good luck!” she winked at me before she dashed off the library.

I wonder if she’s a professor here or a counselor.

I was about to go back to the front desk when I noticed Lucifer again.

He looks so calm and harmless now that he’s sleeping.

Well, maybe he’s not that bad at all. Maybe there is a reason why he acts so blunt and rude.

Lucifer suddenly moved and opened his eyes

He gazed at me and once again, his face turned into a very scary one. “What the fuck are you doing here, you dumbass?!” he yelled as he stood up.

“I-I’m sorry. I was just sorting the books and I just happened to see you here. B-But I didn’t mean to wake you up.. I’m really really sorry..”

I thought he was going to shout at me again or hurt me, but he just threw the book he’s holding at me. Good thing, I was able to catch it. He skidded towards the door and stepped outside.

Where is he going?

I was planning to run after him but then three boys went inside the library so I had no choice but to go back to my designated place.

“Good Morning, you have to log in first and present your library cards to me before you start looking for the books that you need.”

They looked at each other first before handing me their library cards. Then they started walking towards the shelves while mumbling to each other.

‘Is that her?’

‘I think so.’

‘Are you serious? Can’t you see how innocent her face is?!’

‘Dude! Looks can be deceiving you know!’

‘He’s right. She might look harmless but I’m telling you, that woman is a witch!’

I wonder what kind of books they are looking for.

Maybe they’re having a hard time finding it.

Right. I should help them, it’s my duty as a school librarian after all.

I was about to walk towards them but they all looked at me as if they’ve seen a ghost going near them.“S-sorry Miss! We’ll never do it again!” they all said in chorus then dashed off the library.

Why did they run? Do I look scary?

Lucy’s POV

“Are you really alright, Angela? Did Lucifer hurt you?” Raffy asked to Angela, looking like a worried father of his one and only daughter.

“I’m alright Rafael, Lucifer didn’t hurt me so you don’t have to worry about me.”

“That’s good to hear then. Just tell me if he ever tries to hurt or even lay a hand on you, okay?”

“Uhm. Actually, I’m more concern about Lucy..” said Angela, while looking at me.

“Best friend, you don’t have to worry about me. I’m having fun being a school waitress after all.”

Angela heaved a sigh of relief after hearing what I said. “That’s so good to hear Lucy, I was thinking about you all the time.”

“Oh you sweet best friend of mine! We should be the one worrying about you!”

“Lucy’s right Angela, you don’t have to worry about us.” Raffy added.

Angela just smiled. “Sorry, but I just can’t help it..”

I stopped walking and stood in front of her then pinched her cheeks. “You’re so cute best friend!”

Angela has always been a great friend for me and Raffy. She worries a lot about us and she always make sure that we are doing fine.

She surely loves us so much that’s why we love her so much too!

“By the way Best friend, how was Lucifer?” I asked Angela when we’re finally inside my car.

Rafael’s went to the school of Angela’s siblings to bring them home like he always does whenever Angela has to work in our coffee shop.

“I think he loves reading books because from the moment that he entered the library, he quickly strove towards the shelves.” She narrated.

“Yep! He really loves reading books! They even have a library in their house.” I enthusiastically said to her. She’s just listening to me like she’s very interested in every word that I say.

This is why I really love this girl, she’s always willing to listen to me.

“Lucifer’s really popular with the girls here, right? There were three girls who went to the library just to take a photo of him while he’s sleeping. I tried to stop them since using phone inside the library is strictly prohibited but they just pushed me away.”

“What?! They pushed you and they even tried to take photos of my Lucifer?! Tell me who are they and I’ll make sure to kick them out here in Chasung High!

“It’s fine Lucy. Good thing Ms. Courtney showed up and asked them to leave.”

“Oh really?”

“Yes. By the way, is Miss Courtney a professor here?”

“Huh? Nope. She’s the head of the English Department and ex-girlfriend of our Dean.”

“IS THAT TRUE?!” Angela asked, looking so surprised.

I tucked my hair on my ears. “Yep, they broke up because of third party. Dean cheated on her.”

“Really? That’s so sad of her.”

“Right. By the way best friend, I’m just wondering..”

“Huh?”

“Why don’t you get boyfriend already? You know, you’ve been alone for so many years—taking care of your siblings when there’s no one to take care of you..”

Geez. I hope she won’t get mad at me for asking her

“I understand you, Lucy. But I don’t think I can force myself into a relationship just because I’m lonely.. And in fact, taking care of my siblings is my main priority.”

“Is that the only reason?”

She shifted her eyes to me with a puzzled look on her face.

“You’re still waiting for him to come back, aren’t you?”

She looked surprised on what I said and averted her gaze.

She knows exactly what I’m talking about.

The limo stopped, so Angela started clutching her things on her chest, getting ready to step outside. “Bye Lucy, be sure to get home safe okay?” she said as she stepped outside the car.

“Best friend!” I called out.

“Huh?”

“I’m so sorry for bringing that up..”

She smiled at me then spoke. “You don’t have to apologize, you were right after all.” she said then waved goodbye.

I was right. She’s still waiting for that guy to come back.

Tch that bastard, how dare him make a pretty girl like my best friend wait.
