Makaila's POV
I woke up with a very bad headache, still oblivious about my surrounding. My body still hurt but not as bad as before. Trying to remember what happened, I looked around and widened my eyes when I noticed that I wasn't in my room. I knew that because my room wasn't this big.
I was on a king sized bed and it was incredibly soft, unlike my small brick like bed at home. I noticed my sprained ankle was in a bandage and a plaster on my fore head. I got down from the bed and opened the door, looking around for someone who would explain where I was and what I was doing here exactly. The house was big, that's for sure and everything looked so luxurious and well furnished.
Maybe I had finally died and gone to Heaven. I chuckled at the thought
I saw a stair case and began to descend it, minding my step. When I got to the foot of the stairs, I looked up and meet the greatest shock of my life.
Christian Hales is seated on the luxurious couch watching TV.
I moved my hand to pinch myself, just to be sure I wasn't dreaming but my hand swerved a bit, mistakenly knocking a flower vase over. I watched as it fell to the floor and shattered into pieces. That definitely caught Christian's attention.
"Oh! You are awake." He smiled, totally ignoring the fact that I just broke one of his vases. I didn't respond, my mind in turmoil as questions kept running through it.
What am I doing here? In Christian Hales' home?
What if the vase was priceless and I have to pay for it?
I have no money!
I shuddered at that thought and before I could think any further, his voice sliced through my mind.
"Okay...are you just going to stand there all day, staring at me?"
"What the hell am I doing here?!" I screamed at him but regretted it as I felt a wave of pain hit my head. I winced at that.
"Well...you kinda almost fainted on your way home." He replied, walking towards me and I watched him, wanting a more detailed explanation. On cue, he continued.
"Lucky for you, I got there just in time. I wanted to take you to the hospital but for some reasons, you said I shouldn't and I had to bring you here and call my doctor to threat you." He explained and my eyes widened slightly in realization.
Wait...did he just say he helped me?
Christian helped me?
Who would have thought, when he hangs out with jerks and bitches? For God's, sake his girl friend is a major bitch.
But still he helped me.
"Oh..." I muttered, not knowing what else to say. He raised an eyebrow at me.
"A 'thank you' would be nice, you know." He smirked. I rolled my eyes. Well, he does deserve it.
"Thank you." I looked around and saw my bag and sweater on the chair. I walked over and picked it up.
"What are you doing?" I heard him ask. I looked over my shoulder at him.
"I'm going home. I think, I am well enough to do so." I replied.
"You can't go home at this time. Its already late." Christian said and I swear I could detect concern in his voice. Was he concerned for me?
No...
Maybe he was just thinking about himself. Maybe if something happens to me, he would be held responsible for it. It had to be that kind of concern.
"I think I am capable of taking care of myself." I gave him a sarcastic smile and started walking towards the door but he stopped him.
"No. You are not going anywhere. You could get hurt or something." He said. I looked at him and sighed.
Truly the last place I would rather go to is home, with a drunk ass father who will beat the shit out of me. But, the last person I wanted to admit that to was Christian. He will sure tell the others and I will be humiliated in school.
"I'm going." I told him.
"Come on. Besides the doctor said you need a lot of rest and you haven't even eaten. Your food got thrown away during lunch." Christian said but then it clicked to him what he said, reminding me of how horrible lunch was.
"Gee, thanks for the reminder." I rolled my eyes again.
"I'm sorry. That wasn't on purpose. Please stay. Right now, I'm responsible for you." He smirked.
"Yes Mum." I replied sarcastically. He chuckled as he heard that and led to the dinning table. A plate of Spaghetti with beef sauce was waiting for me. My tummy grumbled in anticipation because I haven't had a good meal in a very long while. I devoured the whole plate and even asked for more. Christian didn't seem to mind.
Christian's POV
I watched her as she devoured the third plate of spaghetti and meat sauce. I have never seen a girl eat the way she did and surprisingly, I found it really adorable. I brought out a bottle of water from the fridge and handed it over to her. She murmured a thank you as she was really keen on finishing her food. My phone rang and I checked the caller. It's Nigel so I pick it up.
"Hey bro." I sat down.
"Hey Chris. How is she?" Nigel asked. I frowned at that. He calls for the first time in ages and the first thing he asks is how Makaila is?
What's his deal with her anyway? Did they know each other?
"She's better." I simply replied. I heard him heave a sigh of relief. From the corner of my eyes I saw Makaila had stopped eating to look at me.
"I am coming over to your house, tomorrow." He told me.
"Why? You hardly come over to my house." I stated.
"I am coming to see her." Nigel replied and I roll my eyes in annoyance.
"She might have been gone by the time you get here. You don't have to bother." I say quickly.
"Don't worry, I will come early. Tell her a friend is coming over to see her." Nigel simply said and hung up. I stared at my phone like someone had puked on it.
"Who was that?" I heard Makaila ask.
"My cousin, Nigel. You might not know him. He isn't all that popular." I said, trying to discourage her.
"You mean Nigel Santos, the music major." She said. My head shot up.
"You know him?" I asked.
"Yeah. We have music classes together. He is one of the people that try not to kill me. We rarely talk but he seems nice. So he wants to see me?" She gave a small smile.
"Yes. He will be here tomorrow." I said, still dazed that she knew Nigel.
"Well, now staying over is not such a bad idea." She said. I rolled my eyes. Why was I even feeling this way? She is no one to me.
Makaila's POVI was running through a dark road . I had no idea where I was going but I just kept running. He was chasing me. He wanted to hurt me like always. I didn't see the tree stump on the ground and that made me trip. He was getting closer. I could see his shadow approaching and I could also hear his wicked laugh. He came into view. "I've got you now." He smirked. I tried to run but my leg wouldn't let me. I was trapped. I saw a figure close by. "Help! Please help me!" I called out. The figure came into view and I saw who it was."Mum?""You will never amount to anything. No one loves you. No one will ever love you. You are a curse! I hate you." She spat out. "Please mum, help me. Don't le
Makaila's POVI went back to staying at my house soon after. The last thing I wanted was for Bethany to meet me at her boyfriend's house. The ray of sun light entering the room made me wake up. I groaned as I tossed and turned on the bed. Mondays were my worse days, probably everyone's worse days. I finally turned to look at my alarm clock. My eyes nearly bulge out of their sockets. It was 8:30! Fuck! I slept past my alarm! I had less than an hour to get to school. I ran to the bathroom to take a quick shower. Then wore a casual white tee shirt, black Jeans pants and stuffed my black hoodie inside my bag. I took my sneakers in one hand and my rollers in another and started rushing down stairs. I didn't see my father in sight but I don't care. I rushed out and started to wear my rollers. I only had twenty minutes left.
Makaila's POVIt was lunch break and everyone was in the cafeteria. Nigel decided to sit with me today. It felt nice because I have never had anyone seat with me before. We were talking when the cafeteria door flew open and the clique of jocks came, Christian leading the way. All of them in their varsity jackets. I felt a tinge of familiarity. I couldn't help but feel they all wore it for a reason. They rarely wore their jackets except they were having a game that evening. I looked at Nigel with a raised eyebrow. "They are planning to do a welcome party for a new student." He clarified. That statement alone made my eyes widen in realization. "Seriously?! That awful. Christian won't let them do it, will he?" I asked. "Makaila, sometimes he doesn't have a say. I wonder if he is really a captain." Nigel sighed.
Makaila's POVFor a while, Tyler and the others stopped bullying me, mostly because Nigel was always with me. They tried to take delight in hurting Rita as well but Nigel still won't let them. If anything, they feared Nigel. He is a nice guy but whenever he means business, he means business. Christian and I didn't talk anymore. He acted like I don't exist and I did the same. Though I couldn't but feel somehow about it. Get a grip Makaila. He chose the enemy's side. Rita had no friends because people made fun of her curves, saying she was fat. Though she wasn't slim like me but I'd rather call her curvy. Nigel asked her to hang out with us and we became friends. Nigel had an unusual soft spot for Rita. I started noticing it early but I didn't give an open eye to it at first, well that was until Nigel started walking Rita to class, checking up on
Christians POVI sighed as the cold water from the shower hit my skin. I allowed it to run down my body as Itried to get the picture of what just happened out of my mind. Bethany and I just finished a second round of sex. I called her because I just couldn't get Makaila out of my mind and trust me I have tried. She just seemed to be stuck there. Calling Bethany was the only way I saw fit to get her out of my head. It didn't work. Lately, Bethany has become annoying to me in different ways. She started to seem too clingy but I didn't want to show her that her presence has begun to irritate me. I haven't stopped thinking about Makaila today or what she said to me after the cafeteria incident. What she had said that day hit a nerve and I desperately wanted to prove to her that I wasn't like the others. I wanted her to know that I was di
Christian's POVI stayed with Makaila all night, watching her. I decided I was going to skip school because I couldn't leave her all by herself. Bethany called to ask where I was. I couldn't tell her about Makaila, so I cooked up some excuse and being really dumb, she bought it. I heard a honk outside the house and got up to check who it was. I saw Nigel coming out of his car. I frowned. What the hell was he doing here? Though I told him earlier that Makaila was with me, I told him not to bother coming that I had everything under control. I opened the door and met him half way, preventing him from going in. "What are you doing here?" I asked him, my hands crossed. He looked at me with a raised eyebrow. "You know why I am here. I want to see Makaila." He made to move again but I stopped him. He looked surprised. "Do you mind?" He asked.
Makaila's POVI was back in school. I covered my scars the best way I could and my face had already healed. Just as usual, Nigel picked me up first and then went to pick Rita up too. We got to school, got down and minded our business. News travelled fast that Nigel and Rita were a couple which automatically meant Rita was off limits to the bullies. She even told me some of the bitchy cheerleaders were trying to get close to her. I rolled my eyes at that.Fake people. For me, I was pretty covered because Nigel was always with me as well but I was waiting for Christian to make do with his promise. I decided I wasn't going to talk to him till then, which I actually doubt he would. His "friends" have a hold on him. But inside me, I held a ray of hope that he would be able to do it.
Makaila's POVEverything seemed back to normal. For once, I was in charge of my life. Well, partially. I snuck in and out of my house. Since that night I ran out of the house and went to the park, I have had this unusual fear for my father.I couldn't shake the gut feeling that he is was still going to hurt me. Though I tried telling myself not to worry but I couldn't shake the feeling. On a lighter note, Christian and I became quit close friends. I guess it wasn't so bad to let my walls down just a little and allow a few people in.One day his loyalty was tested. I was studying in the biology lab, trying to catch up on the things I missed while away. Suddenly, a cold liquid hit my hair and flowed down to my dress. Gasping, I stood up and turned around to see Bethany with a cup of blueberry smoothie in her hand. She had a wicked smirk on her face. My blood began to boil but I calmed myself down. I knew what she was trying to do and I knew very well I could handle whatever this bitch ha
