Chapter 5 : The Roommate

"What am I supposed to do now?"

I popped another chicken pop in my mouth and chewed slowly to get all the flavour, Irene nibbled on her bread sticks while staring at me like an investigator looks at a criminal.

"What are you looking at?"

"What kind of luck you were born with? It's bad." She said, I slumped back on my chair and pulled at the ends of my hair in frustration.

"Not even a week in and you already started making enemies, you are something special."

"A cup of coffee! Ah! That stupid black bean! I don't even know his name!" I exclaimed. My actions caught many people's attention but I could care less, I needed to get out and sort things out with him and get a breather.

My Brian seemed to be blocked and my limbs didn't work as usual around him though, it was both stupid and horrifying to think.

I nodded to myself and decided to approach him, he wanted coffee? I'll get him. New shirt? I'll get him that too, if it meant he would get off my back and not come to me all the time to settle the debt.

"I didn't realise the most important factor was missing, what is his name?" Irene wondered out loud to herself, she was so concentrated on her thoughts that one would think she was solving Einstein's problems.

"It's not a science theory that you can solve Irene, it's his name, you gotta ask him." I helped and cleaned my oily hands with a few tissue papers. The day had sucked so far but at least the food was good, it's all that mattered. Good food and good mood, one of them was good her, mood? I'm not sure about that.

"Are you going to talk to him?"

"He clearly said I own him a coffee, I'll get one for him and get this over with. Then he can live in his space and stop bothering me."

"I don't think it's as simple as you think, he looked weirdly at you too."

"That's called glaring, he was frying me alive in his brain for that stupid coffee."

"Nope, didn't you see? Before leaving he turned and gave a look. That smirk thing that guys do? Yeah that."

I stopped and blinked a couple of times and nodded, he must be mocking me. That's the only explanation for his gruesome behaviour towards me, maybe he was cranky because there were no girls surrounding him?

Who knows.

I shrugged my shoulders in response. Irene had to go to the Library and asked me to join her but I had a lot of boring hours already, my head was full of crap and all I needed was a good sleep. So I bid her goodbye and started walking towards the back of the campus where our dorm buildings were.

Walking up three floors seems easy until one had to do it, and the stairs in the dorm building was so damn high it would easily give anyone cramps.

Slowly, taking my time I climbed up the six stair cases and finally reached the floor, room number 304 was at the end of the corridor so I had to go all the way inside and the search for the tiny key to unlock the door.

To my utter horror, when I touched the door it moved. It was already unlocked, and for a moment I was afraid there was a burglar in the room until I remembered I was supposed to have a roommate who also would have a key.

Cautiously I opened the door little by little and first saw a pair of black socks lying in front of the door. I blinked in confusion and opened the door wider and with a lot of sound.

"We will have to set rules if you are going to stay like this, roomie." I announced, my gaze still fixed on the small balls of socks and the dirt following after that. It was disgusting, we need to establish a few ground rules of hygiene.

"I don't mind, go ahead." A familiar muffled voice answered and my head snapped up. On the bare, white side of the room, on the bed layed a large figure dressed all black and all to male to be my roommate. He was casually sprawled on his stomach, legs dangling from the side and hands below his face.

Hearing my scream he turned around and was now on lying on his back, a gasp left my lips, indeed it was him. Universe hated me with all it's guts.

"What the heck?!" I shouted, I was afraid if I widen my eyes any more then they would pop out of the sockets.

"Hey, roomie." The strange guy whom I owed a coffee waved at me from the bed, he didn't make a single move to get up or explain his presence in my room. He was rather comfortable in the lying position.

"What are you doing in my room?! How did you know this is my room?!"

"Simple, I didn't."

"Why are you here?!"

He didn't answer but instead pulled something out of his jeans pocket - a key and a note.

"See for yourself."

I snatched the paper out of his hands and read it's contents.

"Due to shortage of rooms in building 1, a few students will have to adjust. Sorry for the inconvenience but it's not a permanent arrangement. As soon as the rooms are available they will be shifted back."

Remember what I said about the college and the dorms being increadible? Well, yeah let's forget about that. I crumbled the note and threw it on the bed he was lying on.

He - the nameless guy - stared at me with an intense light in his eyes, one that could melt stones and freeze water. Did that make any sense? Nope but that's what I felt when I took a glimpse in his yellow-green eyes.

"So, I will have to put up with you for a long time." I whispered loud enough for him to hear.

"Like it or not."

"Let's not fight like kittens then okay? We can stay civilized and like good friends. But first ground rules."

"Who are you comparing to a kitten?" He frowned, he was clearly offended by that so I decided to not respond to that question.

"What is your name?" I asked to change the subject.

"You don't know my name?"

I clicked my tongue, "Not everyone is that interested in you mister. And if you weren't stuck in this room with me then I wouldn't have bothered with your name."

"Are you always this bad or am I a special case?"

"Let's treat you as a special case."

"Laurent."

"What?" My eyebrows raised.

"My name, it's Laurent."
