Monique tasted the coppery tang of blood on her tongue. She unclenched her jaw and saw her handiwork. Blood oozed out from the wound as she let out a cry. “I really thought you wanted to send me off.”

Something flashed in Henry’s eye when he realized she was afraid of being sent away.

The fact that Monique wanted to stay by his side made him happy. He softened his tone as he said, “Fortunately, you had the sense to come back to me, else you would’ve given me no choice but to send you away.”

As tears streamed down her face, she stuttered, “You weren’t worried I would leave with him?”

Henry carried her out of the bathtub and gave her a sly grin. “And leave Angel to me?”

His words were half joking and half serious.

“In your dreams.” Monique’s expression shifted immediately, the crying woman was gone. “Angel is just a child. Don’t you dare drag her into this. If you hurt a hair on her head, I’ll kill you!”

The threat was delivered in all seriousness.

Henry’s lips twitched. What was
