Chapter 1 Aftershock

They say that when a werewolf finds their mate, they will be able to identify him from miles away. It comes at an instant. One minute you will still be falling through trees and the next you’ll be faced with him. You’ll be face with the dark hair, the perfect sculptured face.

Everything will be perfect.

Every puzzle piece will somehow fall into place and there will be no more sign of loss, anger, betrayal or even hatred. All those feelings will disappear and you’ll be confronted with the most glorious feeling of happiness, love and lust.

All directed at ONE specific person. Yet, when I dazedly looked at those two wolves staring at me – black spots and dizziness creating six godlike figures, those sirens did not halt as my eyes flickered between them.

Here was two men.

One I’ve known my whole life. We’ve shared a lifetime together. Those chocolate orbs eyes always glinting mischievously.  And there was the person I’ve known for a few weeks. We’ve shared moments together I could only imagine spending with my mate.

But that had only been because of the heat?

Or had it been. I slowly blinked once more, my eyelids only becoming heavier. Inside my head my wolf was howling, the sound making the thudding in my head only worse.

There were two men.

Two equally important.

But who was the one I was destined to be with?

“Mate”

The word escapes the girl’s mouth before her eyes flutter close.

She lets out a puff of breath and she’s out like a candle. She looks so innocent, peaceful. Still, I can’t deny that she looks as if she has been through a war. Although the marks are slowly starting to heal there is no denying the scratches all over her arms and legs and the harsh cut she had gotten on her head. It had even manages to dribble some blood before it’s slowly healing.

The wolf next to me lets out a whimper, forcing me to turn my attention to him. His grey eyes had faded and it resembles someone’s who has lost all hope.

Congrats

He starts to turn around, getting ready to walk back to his territory.

What are you on about?

I turn towards him, still keeping close to the girl in fear she might disappear.

Congrats

Just repeating the word doesn’t help

It’s obvious you’re her mate

How do you know? What’s going on!?

I let out a growl, moving away from the girl to go stand in front of the dark wolf. I know I wasn’t supposed to. I felt the sudden urge to protect her but that was only because this monster had taken this girl from me… from this pack.

Get out of my way

He lets out a growl, moving to step to the side. When I stepped the same direction, he lets out another growl, moving past me.

You know nothing. Go and take care of your mate

He tried to walk away once again but to his annoyance, I once again moved in front of him. He rolled his eyes but stayed where he stood, I’m not her mate – so please, get out of my way

I stared back at him, realising that the guy wasn’t the happiest wolf in the whole world. For a sudden second I forgot that I actually hated the guy and asked the most stupid question in the whole world, Are you okay?

This time, the growl came out as if he was pretending to be an alpha. He shoved past me, heading further into the woods. This time I allowed him, not caring about him. Who actually did? He had taken my MATE away from me.

My mate…

Lily was my mate.

Squirrel girl.

The same girl who leaped through trees and called me an idiot my whole life. She was my mate. As I approached her, warm tingles erupted all over my body. She was definitely my mate. I took in her glorious lilac scent, her beautiful innocent face. She was perfect. She was mine.

And I’ll be damned if ANYONE hurts her. I nuzzled her, feeling her warm skin against me.

I can already feel the soft tingles that flow through my body as I start to gain consciousness once again. It’s coming from my neck and the overwhelming smell of coffee makes warmth flood my system.

Way to have been dramatic Lily…

A soft whimper escapes my lips and the coffee smell as well as the touch fades. A howl pierces through the night and I slowly open my eyes.

In front of me is a white wolf, his pelt glinting in the moonlight. The howl fades slowly and his gaze turns back to me. I’m struck by those beautiful eyes, everything in me like fireworks. He walks towards me, nuzzling me once again.

I give him a light smile, trying to sit up but he lightly pushes me back down.

“I’m fine”

The wolf only shakes his head, placing his paw over my hand. It rests there for a moment before Felix turns around and heads into the woods. I slowly get up, ignoring my wolf’s soft whimpers that’s clouding my head. But before I can even move a step, my mate returns.

When he sees me, he lifts up an eyebrow.

“You okay?” he asks me softly, worried edged in every syllable of those two words.

“I – I’m fine” I said, ignoring the pain that’s shooting up my leg. Felix nodded, walking towards me. I’m firstly embraced by his warm glorious scent before his arms wrap around me, sending tingles everywhere once again. Is this how it was going to feel every time he touched me? My mouth warped into a smile and I hugged my mate tighter. Inside my head, my wolf was going crazy – it howling and barking excitedly.

I can almost imagine it jumping around, pouncing like some dancing fairy.

My mind suddenly shifts away from the image to something else. Something that makes the same feeling of guilt engulf me and my wolf stop prancing around.

“Um Felix?”

“Hmm” he doesn’t let go, his heartbeat soft and calm next to my ear. Yeah, not with the next question I’m about to ask.

“Where’s the black wolf?”
