I burst out of the front doors of the infirmary, gasping for breath and shaking my head. Was this all just a bad dream?
Charlie beeped at me from the curb.
“Miss Jaz? Are you in need of a ride?”
I nodded before I knew what I was doing, stealing into the back seat of the car.
“To the party?”
“Yes, please. Thank you, Charlie.”
Fortunately he wasn’t usually a chatty driver.
My mind was still racing, checking off the list of nightmare scenarios, one after the other.
My father had found me. My survival was no longer a secret.
