Mia
The noise in my head woke me up, I opened my eyes to scan the environment I was. It was blurry at first with my head banging. An excruciating pain on my chest, a massive headache, an high temperature. Everything was in deep blur at first. And I could see something moving in the background. Until I fluttered my heavy eyelids on several occasions, that was when, the blurriness waned.
I was at the hospital on was on coma.
Just then, an image flashed through my head and I could remember almost everything.
I didn't know what to do when they were beating me mercilessly, like I was some thief who was caught stealing. My memory was hazy, but I was given several blows and being kicked violently, till I coughed up blood. I had prayed it was dream, but the pains I was receiving on every of my b
AlexI was stunned when I saw the face of the girl which I had taken to the hospital the previous night. It was the same reporter at the hotel. It was funny how we insulted each other, and I ended up saving her that same day.I couldn't help but ponder, of all people, I was the one who'd saved her. And of all people, she was the one who had been shot and abandoned in a bushy surrounding.Who could have wanted to waste the life of the young girl? Although, she had a running mouth which could engage her in trouble where ever she went. But not to the extent of being shot. No.The bullet which was shot on her chest was operated and she was currently on treatment. It was a miracle she didn't die. It was rare for one to survive a gunshot on the chest.I des
AlexNow a week since I visited Mia at the hospital. The thought of visiting the hospital again frightened me and I couldn't understand why. She had the most amazing eyes I have ever seen. So big, wide and beautiful, but there were hardness in them. Which meant, she was a strong woman, or had been through a whole lot.And all I knew was, I never wanted to see those eyes again. Ever.Luckily for me, I was too occupied to think about her that week. I had three cases I was working on, on different files. To do in for more informations. And I was carrying out a heavy task on heaps of paperwork's. So I had no time to think about her.It was one of those days my client sneaked into the males restroom to seduce me.On that faithful day, I headed to court and wa
Alex"I miss you, Al." She said."I miss you more. You were on my mind each passing day. Still is."There was no response from her, but she closed her eyes shut. Then hummed a foreign sound that sent bittersweet shivers down my spine.Noticing my tensed mood, she flicked her eyes opened and rewarded me with grin. Showing me the gap in her teeth which I loved so much. Then she pulled away from me.It was odd because we were the only couple on the beach, no human figure was there. Not even Bruce and Benny, my dogs. Which became more fremd, because I loved taking my dogs with me for an evening walk at the beach. Wether with company or not. But the beach was deserted.I returned my eyes to the woman who had captured my heart and wrapped in be
MiaHe had promised to return the next day, and I had believed him. There was something about him that made me trust him and his every word. He looked like a man of his word. But my expectations were cut short when didn't return. Not even the day after. When he didn't show up on the fourth day, I lost all hopes of him coming to the hospital again.I had overstayed at the hospital, and my bills were inflating on a daily basis. Thankfully the doctor and nurses were still tending to me, the pain in my chest was reducing on a gradual process. But I made sure never to touch that part of my chest. Scared it'd hurt if I accidentally touched it.Food was another issue for me apart from my bills. If it weren't for an elderly nurse who took pity on me and brought me food once a day, I didn't know what would have become of me. I a
MiaThe following day, after the endless search of a job, I finally secured one at a bookshop. Although, the payment was very little, but it was worth putting food on the table so I accepted it. I had trekked till my foot hurt and I was sweating profusely, with big fat patchy designs of perspiration on my under arms. At a point, the pain in my chest grew worst and the knots in my stomach tightened like I was having period cramps. I increased my pace.I was now few blocks away from my steet when I spotted a black car with black tinted glasses trailing after me. At a point, I stopped and feigned as if I was resting, and the car stopped too.Afraid it was who I thought it was, I carried on walking very fast, like a mother who was hurrying to go home to nurse her crying infant. I made the decision to hide behind a stall where elec
AlexHave I done the wrong thing? I questioned myself for what it seem like the upteenth time as I drove her home with me. She wasn't safe, she would've been dead if I hadn't showed up. That I knew, but I shouldn't have offered to take her home with me. When I was clearly uncomfortable around her.But now, no going back to my words. She would be hurt and disappointed if I inform her she couldn't come with me. And worse, if she return to that house, she would get killed. And I doubt if she had any penny with her.Guess I would just have to deal with her living with me. I muttered as I returned my eyes to her.I studied her profile for a while from my rear view mirror. She was on an oversize grey sweatshirt and baggy torn shots. Clothes any sane lady wouldn't dare to put on. She had her eyes glued at the window,
AlexShe was so different from all the ladies I had come across. She always spoke her mind, and feigned nothing. Unlike most ladies who were good at pretending. She didn't even give a care about the way she dress. And I would've sworn that she could put on a garbage sack, and wouldn't mind.We hopped out of the car and made our way to the house."So, you live here with your family." She inquired as she followed me into the house. Pushing her glasses up which seem to be falling down every second, because of how small and delicate her nose was.Why was she so carefree after the incident that occurred an hour ago? Hell, she was acting like nothing happened back at her apartment."I bought this house." I informed her, and then watch her jaw drop. She blinked
Charles"Now that she's recuperating, she needs proper care and attention. You need to be there always. If she's left alone, I'm afraid this will happen again. So, young man, her life is partially in your hands." Dr Murphy, our family doctor informed me. He has been our family doctor for as long as I can remember."Alright, I've heard you doctor. I'll stick to your advice." I said shaking hands with him, with that, I strolled out of his office and headed straight to her ward. But I refused to go in and let my presence be know because of guilt.Flash back"How could you have been so careless?" I bellowed with fury, glaring so hard at her."I'm so sorry, Charles. I truly am. I was gone for a few minutes to talk to an old friend. Ruby was so engrossed
