“You’re back,” Cassie shouted as she made her way towards me.
“And you’re not dead,” Leah chimed in.
“Did you ever doubt I wouldn’t be back?” I said with a smile.
Cassie ignored Leah. “What did he say?”
“He wants to personally give us his blessing.”
“Does that mean I get to see my dad?” Cassie said, a wide smile appearing on her face.
I hated to burst her bubble. “You will, on your eighteenth birthday.”
The smile on Cassie’s face faded. “Why doesn’t he want to see me.”

Me and my family were making our way into the village centre to the temple. Dawn wasn’t with us, as she had arrived at the temple in the morning for her studies. We didn’t always attend all the ceremonies, especially not the Esbats, as my mother believed them to be a waste of time. It was crazy to think about everything she had to go through just because she was different. The stories that we had all heard about growing up were about her parents, and the demon was her father.
