Marianne was staring in the direction in which the sad man left and stopped to think about how he could be feeling, he didn’t look that old so his daughter could not have been in her teens yet unless otherwise.
Just the thought of losing a child you already have memories with sent chills down her spine and made her feel even worse for the sad man. Greg mysteriously appeared out of nowhere and asked her what she had been thinking of cause it pretty much looked like she had zoned out for a moment.
“Nothing, did you get the get the cake?”,
Marianne asked him as she started to pick up her belongings and held Rose’s hand to get up.
“All out can you believe that honey?”, he looked at Rose trying to show disappointment in his face.
When what actually happened was...
While Greg was on his way to the counter where he had spotted very attractive and delicious looking chocolate cakes through the glass counter, walking towards the counter he bumped into one of the nurses and she accidentally dropped the food she had been carrying on a tray.
“Oh damn. I am so sorry miss, how clumsy of me, I probably wasn’t looking where I was....”, he paused for a second as he took a minute to admire the sexy nurse that grabbed his attention and probably half his brain,
“...looking”, he finished his apology. Luckily everything placed on the tray were packed in zip locks so nothing needed a five second rule marathon, he helped pick everything up and assisted her in standing as well.
“That’s okay, we all make mistakes right?”, her voice so seductive it sent Greg to the moon and back.
She turned to place her food on the table, and in that moment her uniform did nothing for her self respect she intentionally bent over a bit to push the tray to the other side of the table and turned back to Greg who was still stunned by the curves presented right in front of him.
“You lose something?”, she asked as she looked at herself then looked at him with a smirk.
Embarrassed that he was caught gawking at her, he blushed but hid it with the lift of an eyebrow and covered up by giving compliments.
“How could I possibly not stare when God himself has graced me with such a site?”, he asked so plainly and expected her to be speechless, who wouldn’t be? Do people still say that?
Not impressed by his lame compliment, she still felt a little flattered that he was trying so she humoured him.
“You’re cute, what are doing here? Someone died? Sick?”, she asked.
“No matter, just trying to get a chocolate cake for my little girl”, he said so proudly.
“How sweet, you’re married?”, she asked expecting to be disappointed.
“No I’m just a father dedicated to seeing his daughter happy, that’s all”, he tried to change the topic.
The nurse smiled and moved in a bit closer as to show her sudden interest in him and reached into her pocket to remove a business card designed by herself in case someone needed it for her services, and he looked like he wanted and needed it indeed.
Greg received it and put it in his shirt pocket and smirked. He stepped away after realizing they were too close and Marianne could walk in unexpectedly,
“I’ll definitely call if I mysteriously get sick and need a personal nurse to attend to me”.
She sent him a seductive smile as she walked to other side of the table to sit down and finally have her meal, he quickly left the cafeteria back to the waiting room where Marianne and Rose were waiting for him to leave.
And now...
Rose felt sad she didn’t get the cake she wanted but nothing could be done so she asked her mother for a fruit from her parcel, Marianne gave her an apple that was in a plastic bag just above a box of spaghetti and meatballs-how sweet of Lucy.
Marianne closed the bag again, held Rose’s hand and followed Greg out the door to the car park, they got in their SUV, legally owned by Marianne through her few small side businesses.
A cute vox wagon, army green in color and black velvet seats, comfortable enough to spend the night in it. Greg quickly walked up to open the door for Marianne to score some points before reaching home and get a smile out of her but all he got was a glance of despise as she entered the car after helping Rose get in the back seat and into her seatt belt.
He closed the door after she entered and hurried to the other side to get in and started the car, he turned it off and turned to her.
“Are you okay?”, he asked her in frustration.
Marianne gave him a side look and nodded,
“I’m just hungry, can we get home fast so I can enjoy my well prepared meal?”, she asked.
“Yeah daddy I want to go home already”, Rose agreed with her mum.
Greg looked at Rose and smiled and back at Marianne, pat her thigh and started the car. Just as he put the car in reverse nurse Lucy came to Marianne’s window and knocked to get her attention and stop the motion the car that had already started, Marianne’s face lit with smile and rolled down her window.
“I’m sorry if I startled you, I thought a little Rose might want a little treat, I over heard her request and felt so terrible when she couldn’t have it”,
She said as she lifted her other hand revealing a little see through pack with a slice of chocolate cake in it.
“Were you watching us the whole time?”, Marianne asked jokingly as she received the cake and handed it over to Rose in the back.
Rose’s face lit as well as her mother's and extended both hands to receive the cake while her legs wiggled in excitement, she placed it in her laps and couldn't stop staring at the pack.
“What do you say princess?”, Marianne asked Rose who seemed to be lost in the cake before even eating it.
Rose looked up with a bright smile on her face and looked at Lucy through Marianne’s left shoulder,
“Thank you nurse Lucy, I love it”, she said with such a cute little voice it melted Lucy’s heart.
“Oh, don’t mention it. You’re my favorite person now so any time you feel like visiting I’ll keep a cake for you alright?”, she held her chest where her heart was and appreciated the gratitude.
“We better get going now, thank you again”, Marianne said smiling at Lucy.
“Of course love, you guys get home safe alright?”, she bid them farewell as the car continued to reverse and exited the parking lot.
Greg was left speechless after seeing what just happened but wondered how he was going to explain not finding the cake in the first place, but that was probably a topic for when they got home.
The garage door closed behind them and Greg turned off the engine and told Rose to head in while he and Marianne took a minute to talk,“Hey sweetie go in and watch some TV, Mummy and I will only be a minute okay?”,He maneuvered his way to the back while still in his seat, helped her out of her seat belt and opened the door for her and she quickly ran to the entrance through the garage into the house and disappeared.Greg got comfortable and turned to Marianne,“I really did not find any cake, they must have-“,“you think I’m worried about that?”, Marianne cut him off with a question.“What was in that milkshake Greg?”, she went straight to the point.“What are you trying to say Marianne, I put nothing in it. How could you think of me like that?”, he answered so offended by her accusation then turned to the wind shield and placed his hands on the wheel to lay his head on them.Unmoved, Marianne’s feelings started changing by the minut
Greg hurriedly picked up his phone and sat back on his seat, Marianne came closer to see what was up with him and he pretended to reach for something in his pocket so he could hide the card.“What was that all about?”, she asked him about burst in laughter because it looked like he was about to sweat his hair off.“Nothing, you just startled me, a whistle would help you know”, he said so agitated yet trying to keep his cool.Marianne couldn’t help but laugh at the scene, he looked like a child trying to hide a piece of meat in his mouth while being interrogated by his mother. It was really amusing for her.“Anyway, sorry”, Marianne apologised as she exited the kitchen still chuckling.Greg let out a breath of relief thinking he had handled that well, most women would be on their man’s neck trying to get the truth out of him.“But she didn’t seem to care”, he thought to himself with eyes squinted and fingers pressed to his chin. He also wondered ho
Marianne still couldn’t believe what just happened, as she drove away she glanced into the side window to see if Greg was waiting for her to leave or running to the car to stop them.He just stood there, motionless, straight faced and blunt. She couldn’t make out what emotions he was showing from that distance but deep down she knew he was waiting for this day, but if she was frank with herself, so was she. 10 years of a lifeless meaningless relationship? What was she doing? Now all she had to think of was how to survive on her own with her little Rose, the first step was to find Nurse Lucy and see what happened from there. Only God knew what lay ahead.“You okay sweetie?”, she checked her mirror to see what Rose had been doing in the back so quiet.Marianne was shocked to see that she was flat asleep holding her favorite stuffed doll, the one she called princess Mickayla. Such a sweet site she could shed a tear, but that was not necessary especially since sh
"We really need to stop meeting like this sweetie", a faint voice echoed as Marianne was coming to.Disoriented, Marianne held her aching head and started to look around the room with squinted eyes for her daughter. But she wasn't in the room with her, she put her head back down and asked, "where's my baby?"Marianne asked with a horse voice and swallowed to wet her desert throat hoping they didn't give her bad news."She's okay, you're lucky those people called for paramedics fast. Any later and you both would've been dead by now", nurse Lucy replied. She checked Marianne's stability and did the usual mental test of 'what's your name?' and 'torch in the eyes'.Marianne could not just lay back not knowing where her daughter was and how she was doing. She attempted to get up with one hand but Lucy would not let her and she started to resist, after all all mothers would do the same until they knew their child was safe and sound."I'll take you
Marianne came face to face with the most beautiful man she had ever seen, he probably in his mid thirties, at least six foot two, chiseled features and a well built body structure. So fine you could eat off of him, such eye candy. It felt wrong that she was drooling over a fine man while her daughter lay lifeless right in front of her, as she quickly sat back in the wheelchair Lucy addressed the man,"Mr Sorrell, is everything alright", she asked him as she walked to the door where he just froze as he watched poor Rose laying in the hospital bed with so many bandages.Raphael turned his head with eyes still fixed on Rose to respond to nurse Lucy,"Oui?... Oh", he shook his head, making his midnight black hair shift sides and fall just a little above his forehead and faced Lucy."I'm so sorry, I am just concerned about the little girl laying there", his French accent sent chills down Marianne's spine as she sat hiding her face away from Raphael.
Raphael was escorted to another section of the hospital, where the mortuary was. As they got closer, his body ran cold and he couldn't believe it was actually reality. He was filled with too many emotions to contain, he promised his late wife that he'd protect and care for their daughter with his life. Unfortunately fate had other plans.10 months ago..."Will you promise me something?", Christina said on her death bed, feeling her life escape her body with every second that passed.Raphael held her hand and leaned in to hear her faint voice, tears filled Christina's eyes as she thought about leaving her still very young daughter in this world without a mother to comb her hair and give her boyfriend advice when she becomes of age, or take pictures of her at her graduation and hold her grandchildren. Her heart sank as she looked at Raphael who was trying his very best to be strong for her sake and the sake of their daughter, his slightly dark skin st
Raphael remembered that he left the car key in Christina's bag so he went back for it real quick, but as he was getting closer to the room, Raphael noticed that there was commotion a around his around his wife's room so he quickly ran up to see if Christina was okay. One of the nurses tried to tell him that he could not get in but the words happened to pass him like a flash, he managed to work his way through and into the room, Christina had been shaking uncontrollably and then shut down right before his eyes. She was gone, no more life in Christina Sorrell. Raphael wondered where Bellamy was during all of this only to see her coming with a bunch of toys, skipping and humming to a song.Still in shock and a little disoriented, Raphael had to pretend nothing happened and get Bellamy away from the scene.Present..."Mr Sorrell?", the nurse he was walking with called.Raphael snapped out of his flashback and looked at her with eyes red from cry
When Rose woke up the second time after dozing off talking to her mother she felt the need to relieve herself so she asked Marianne if she could go, Marianne called for Lucy and she came almost immediately."Anything wrong?", Lucy asked."No, she just wants to go to the bathroom", Marianne told her.Lucy walked over to Rose to help her down but as she was uncovering her Rose didn't feel the grip on her legs to help her down, she tried to move them but had no feeling in them."Mummy, I can't feel my legs!", She cried out.Lucy looked at her and was shocked at the development so she put her back and ran to find their doctor, "I will be right back"."Mummy I still have to go", Rose complained.Marianne who was now at a loss for words and scared of what the doctor might say looked at her with fear,"I know my baby, but the doctor has to see why you can't move your legs okay".Lucy came back after a few minutes with doctor ca
