Chapter 5

I was at home. I had some time before my shift started. Yeah, I was working sometimes. But I didn’t spend any of these money on me. I earned money, so that I could go to some toy shop and buy toys for orphans. I think they really didn’t deserve being without everything that I had. They are the same as me, probably better but they don’t have as much as I had, only because they are alone. Also I was buying some food for abandoned dogs and cats. Every week I was going to orphanage and shelter.

I decided to read a book. Whnever I had some pastime, I spent long hours, indulging myself with a gripping, thoroughly absorbing book. I think it’s because I liked forgetting about my life and just being in someone’s other one. It’s like the only escape for me. I liked doing different things so that I could forget about my problems. But somehow it was always coming to me back like waves.

It was already time for my shift. I quickly took my bag and went to the cafe Red Roses near my house. It was like a comfortable cafe but I didn’t think that food there was healthy. I loved fast-food but this one was completely horrible.

I came to the cafe. It had a big sign of Red Roses on the top of it, with 2 red roses on the sides. Inside there were probably like 25 tables with 3-5 chairs at every table. There were already 16 people sitting. I saw a cashier Gabe and greeted him. He nodded with a big smile. Gabe was in my school 4 years ago, but he transferred to another one. But we have aways been in each other’s good books. He had black eyes and blonde hair. He was a nice boy. I went to the bathroom to change my clothes. Then I took a notebook with a pen and went to a table with new clients.

I saw a boy with a leather jacket and black jeans sitting with... Oh no. Come on. Why should have it transpired with me? It was the bitch of our school Charlotte who has always considered herself superior from others, outclassing each of the human being .

“Hello, can I take your order?” I asked praying for Charlotte not to say anything.

I saw that boy lifting his head. It was Raf. Amazing! Life, thank you for being so awesome! Why was I surprised? Raf and Charlotte. They were so alike.

 “Walker?” Raf said surprised.

“Do you know this loser?” Charlotte asked with disgust.

 Great!

“Can I take your order?” I repeated looking down to my notebook.

“Yeah, some fries and a burger for me. And you, Charlotte?” he asked.

“I want some salad,” she said.

Oh, poor Charlotte and Raf. I really think that neither in the burger is meat at all, nor in salad are normal vegetables.

I gave the order to the chef and sat neat Gabe, talking to him.

“God, why are you so mean to me?” I said looking at the sky.

Gave laughed.

 “What happened?” he asked.

“They are from my school. Both of them are mean and rude. So yeah, life is immaculate!” I said.

I was catching Raf peering at me sometimes and I wondered  why.

The food was done so I put it on the tray and gave them their order.

“Finally, I think the turtle is faster than you!” Charlotte said.

I nodded and laughed, of course it annoyed Charlotte.

“Are you laughing at me?” she asked.

“Nooo, why should I, right?” I asked laughing.

“I will-“ Charlotte started, but Raf interrupted her:

“Stop, will you?”

“Are you on her side?” Charlotte asked.

 “Shut up, Charlotte!” he said.

I laughed and went back to Gabe. I noticed her getting up from the seat and going to the bathroom. I decided to say thank you to Raf by telling him about this burger.

 “Hey,” I said.

 “Hey,” he answered.

“Don’t eat it! I wouldn’t have told you. But you did what I have wanted to do to Charlotte for a long time, so I will tell you this secret!” I said and laughed.

 He laughed too.

“Oh, thank you. I guess Linc would be proud of us not arguing,” he stated.

 I nodded.

“I gotta go. I have some work to do before I go to match,” uttered.

 “Are you coming?” he asked.

“Yeah, I would never miss my brother’s and friend’s game,” I said and went to Gabe.

I caught him looking at me again.

They finished eating... oh sorry, Charlotte finished eating her poison and they were on their way to the exit. Raf nodded to me. I did the same. And they went out.

“So he is a bad boy and you are his good girl?” Gabe asked, looking at me and the doors where Raf was earlier.

“No, we hate each other!” I screamed.

“Right!” he laughed.

I narrowed my eyes at him.

“Bye, Gabe!” I said and left the cafe.

I heard my phone ringing.

“Hey, Mia!” I said.

“Hey, Ky! What are you going to wear to the game?” she asked me.

“As always-“ I started, but Mia decided to say:

“No-no-no! I will be at your house soon. I will find you something to wear! Bye,” she said and hang up.

She annoyed me sometimes.

I came home and saw Mia drinking the tea.

“What? How?” I wanted to ask, but I wasn’t actually surprised.

“You should wear something beautiful. It’s a game where a lot of hot footballers will be. And you are going to wear the clothes like you are the future clown!” she said opening my closet and choosing which one was good.

“Thanks, I always wanted to be a clown!” I said laying down on my bed.

“Get up!” she said, putting some pieces of cloth on me.

“Amazing!” she said scanning me.

I looked in the mirror and saw my clothes: a white skirt which was really short and a pink top.

“Are you kidding me?” I asked.

“No, you are going to wear this, or I will lock you up here and will never let you go,” she threatened.

“You are freaky, you know? I asked.

 “Yep, thanks!” she replied.

“Give me a minute. I will change my clothes, and we will go to the game,” Mia said and went to the bathroom.

Meanwhile I was in my room, looking at my clothes. I went to the mirror and looking at myself, I sighed. The skirt was really too short. I have never worn such clothes. It was mid-thigh. And top was just covering my chest and showing off my bare stomach. I came closer to look at my face. As usually, I didn’t like how I was looking. I really considered myself ugly and strange. So I just changed everything. I wore a pair of trousers and a T-shirt. Of course there were some people who made me think that I was horrible to look at, but I also made a lot of effort to continue it.

I took a lipgloss from the box under my bed which was hidden really deep. I started putting it on my lips. I think it was beautiful, but it looked better on someone who was more attractive than me. I looked at myself again, and I felt really annoyed about how I looked, and I just whipped the lipgloss away.

“How do I look? Stop! Have you changed your look?” Mia asked coming from the bathroom.

She was wearing a green pair of shorts which were also short. She didn’t wear a shirt, nor she wore a top. She wore a bra which was like a top probably. But damn! It was really too open.

“Yes, I have, and are you sure you want to go with such revealing clothes?” I asked with an arched eyebrow.

“Kylie, shut up. I love it. You just don’t like such open clothes, to be honest, you don’t like any girly clothes,” she said rolling her eyes.

“Yes! I have been saying it to you since you started wearing it!” I yelled. She rolled her eyes again.

“Let’s go, or the game will start without us being there!” she said and pulled my hand.

We went to her car and sat inside. She started the car.

“How is Gill?” I asked about her boyfriend.

“Okay, but we had a little fight. However I hope it is like always nothing important,” she answered and I heard some cracks in her voice.

I think it’s better not to talk about it.

“How is Raf?” she asked and smiled at me.

I rolled my eyes. “How should I know? Good, I gather...As always. Probably with some bimbos!” I said, rolling down the window and looking outside.

“Riiight. Veeery good,” she said sprawling every word.

“Why am I friends with you?” I asked tapping fingers on the window.

“Because you love me and I’m one of a kind for you!” she answered.

We laughed together. She was really special. Mia was always there with me through the roughest patches of my life. I don’t know what I would do without her.

When we came I saw a lot of boys in uniforms. Our team had blue uniform, the other team had black one. I noticed my brother, Raf and Dylan talking. I looked around to see where to sit, but Mia grabbed my wrist and pulled me to the guys. Yes, I didn’t want to approach them, because I felt weird near them.

The game started. Lincoln threw the ball to Raf who had already been far from him. When the ball was coming to Raf I thought that he wouldn’t catch because it was really hard, but he did it! He caught it! Then he started running with it. I saw that he wanted to throw the ball to Dylan, who was behind him, not in front of him, but it was a lie, they wanted to confuse Red Tigers and it was going well. They really thought that Raf would throw the ball to the back and some players ran to Dylan. Doing so there weren’t as many opponents near Raf. So he was kept on running until he came to the end and threw the ball down. Yes! Touchdown! Our school started screaming: “Raf! Raf! Raf!” He was really good at it, because he made it easier to win. And I was pretty amazed.

They continued playing. Linc decided to run a little closer to Shawn, so he could catch it and throw it to Raf. Shawn caught it, but someone pushed him hard and he fell down. It was Jordan. Of course, he liked playing dirty. I heard Shawn screaming. I guess he got a trauma.

“Time out!” Lincoln screamed.

“Are you okay, buddy?” Dylan asked putting a hand on his shoulder.

Shawn screamed.

“I guess I got a shoulder dislocation!” Shawn said closing his eyes from pain.

I saw Raf running to Jordan.

“What the fuck?” Raf screamed and pushed Jordan.

He fell down and started laughing.

“King, do you have a problem?” Jordan said and smirked.

“You will have them now, idiot!” Raf said and clenched a fist to hit him, but Lincoln caught it.

“Calm down! He is manipulating you!” brother tried to get through to him.

Raf backed down and went to Shawn. Mia and I decided to go to them.

“Are you okay, Shawn?” I asked.

“Yeah, I will live,” he said and laughed.

I chuckled and put my hand on his shoulder softly, to prop him up.

“Okay, let’s show them how bitter will be their loss!” Raf screamed and went to the field.

Linc and Dylan followed him. It was the last game. If we make a touchdown, we win. Lincoln threw the ball and Dylan caught it. He ran to Raf and threw a ball to him. Raf caught it and continued the way. He was so close to the victory, but Jordan put his leg on his way. Raf fell down and started circling but he still had the ball in his hands. I thought that it was the end, and that we lost, but I noticed Raf jumping up with a ball in his hands...
