Chapter 2: Aren’t I in a cannon fodder’s body?!

Melissa McCarthy woke up feeling tired. She felt really heavy as if her pets were sleeping on her but when she woke up her cheap run-down apartment seems suddenly turned into a luxurious room. Brown warm colours, wooden textured wall. This luxurious room with King size bed and a lot of old vintage expensive furniture seem to belong to a very wealthy family.

The entire room worth more than her tiny life, from the expensive-looking grandfather clock to the finniest satin curtains hung over the huge French windows.

Where am I?’ Blankly, Melissa looked around this fancy looking place. In a daze, Melissa pinched her cheeks to see whether she was dreaming or not, suddenly she was jolted by a scream.

Behind her was a maid with a pale face screamed as if she saw a ghost and ran away.

'Hey, even if I am not pretty but I am sure I don’t look that scary either' thought Melissa.

Feeling a little out of place, Melissa slowly tried to get up from her king sized bed only to fall on the ground. Stumbling with her weak legs, she took a shaky breath and got up. She slowly walked around this unknown room in search of any clues why she was brought to this place. As she explored this fancy looking room, she suddenly saw something that it is really weird and freaky in the mirror.

As she went forward to the mirror, she touched the mirror surface and the person also followed her movement. When she waved her hand, the person also waved back to her as if it's her reflection...Wait! The girl in the mirror seems to be her...

Fuck…Fuck…NoNoNoNo…Nop…No way… this is definitely not happening to me…Damn it! Who is she?

Who the heck is the girl in the mirror? She does not even look like her. Melissa is sure she is an adult, not a child! She has curly brown hair and blue eyes with an average face. She looks normal but who is the girl in the mirror?

This girl with long black hair, which seems it has not been cut for a long time with pale skin and a very sickly thin body. This girl looks between 9 or 13 years old, she might be even older than she looks. Her bones are even showing and she looks very tiny compared to the large mirror. Melissa knows she is a grown-up adult but why can't she see herself in the mirror.

God, What’s really happening?!

This girl who looks really sick and fragile as if she will break into a mome-

“Ahhhhh!!!!!!!”

The pain shot up in her head like needles, ripping her from within. She screamed.

Damn…It hurts so much. Pain...so much pain. Why is her head hurting? Where are her lovely pets? Where is her family? Her Maa, Paa, old sis, her brothers? Where is everyone? Why am even I here?

For the first time, Melissa felt fear for being in this strange situation. She tried to stay awake but couldn't.

And then she watched a movie. A short movie about a girl called Quinlyn Irsiavel De'Rosa.

I see… it's her memory.’ Melissa realized.

Quinlynn Irsiavel De'Rosa, named after the first ancestor of the De'Rosa family, Quentylnn Autumus De’Rosa. They say, she looks just like her ancestor with dark black hair, porcelain skin, and crimson red eyes...those crimson red eyes that can see through your soul.

My Little ancestor.” Her mother would call her affectionately as she would kiss on her forehead. And Quinlynn, cheeks dusted she would protest that she is not little anymore.

“Mama, I am a big girl now.” Pouting she then would run off towards her father while her mother is left chuckling at her antics.

Both her parents Duke Autumus De'Rosa and Lilith White married for love. Both of them loved their only child unconditionally. Quinlynn lived a very happy 'childhood'.

Yes, a childhood. The movie was so short because Melissa saw Quinlynn only live up to five years.

A child who deserves to witness the beauty of this world died. A young soul who died too early and lived too short.

And Melissa, watching this beautiful family, dearly misses her family. The laughter of her three younger brothers causing mischiefs, nagging voice of her Maa behind the kitchen counter, complaints from her Paa about his work and dark luring shadow of her sister who always pop up when there is the only food on the table. Her two cats Bread and Jam who likes to curl on her stomach. God, she misses them too much that it hurts.

She feels is grief for both herself and this young beautiful soul who died too early.

On her fifth birthday, Quinlynn and her mother went to visit her grandparents. It was planned that Lilith has to be the one who needs to distract Quinlynn and take her away from home. During that moment, the other family members prepare a surprise birthday party for her. Happily, both mother and daughter pair went to visit their grandparents. It seems that fate will always meddle between those who live a happy life. Both the mother and daughter pair got into a car accident. Lilith died protecting her daughter while Quinlynn went into a coma. A coma where her family never gave up hope and waited for her instead they got Melissa McCarthy, not Quinlynn Irsiavel De'Rosa.

Melissa felt that the memories were not complete. Her intuition told her something seems to be off about the sudden car accident. She believes in her intuition.

Suddenly Melissa felt the last wisp of the child’s soul finally leaving the body. Lamenting the death of this young beautiful soul

She felt tears flowing down from her eyes. Tears that certainly did not belong to Melissa herself but belonged to a small child called Quinlynn.

Melissa saw Quinlyn walk along with hand in hand with her mother Lilith. Maybe it was just a dream that Melissa created herself, a happy ending for a young soul who will never get to live in the novel. Yeah, in novel…wait a minute…novel...De’Rosa family…Lilith White…Cannon Fodder Quinlynn…

Damn! Aren’t I in a cannon fodder’s body in fricking Otome novel?!
