Chapter 2

“Get your dogs out of here Zane and try to train them well next time.” The devil alpha says without even looking at us. Alpha Zane gave Aunt Nora a look and she pulled us out of the room closing the door behind us. She drags us all the way to the kitchen before letting go of our arms. “Do you two understand how much trouble you have just put me in?” she asks but none of us answer.

I am shaking with fear and Lizzy is no different. She sighs then move to the other side of the counter then open the cupboard and took out two cups. She fills both with water then add sugar. “Here, drink this, it will help with the shock.” She hands us the cups and we took them and drank then gave her the empty cups when we are done.

“Come let’s go to the lounge.” We do not say anything but follow her to the lounge and sat. Lizzy is next to me while she is sitting opposite us. “How are you feeling now?” she asked, and I sighed rubbing my hands on my jeans. “He called us dogs.” Says Lizzy. “He did but he is also a werewolf and if we are dogs then he is one too.” I do not think Lizzy needed an answer to her statement, but Aunt Nora gave one anyway.

“His eyes look dead and cold.” There is nothing that frightened me more than seeing those eyes and that stone cold face even if it was for just a moment before he looked away. I have never seen a living wolf looking like that, even the rejected ones or those who lost their mates through death do not have that kind of look.

“That might be the results of what he went through, enough with that now, let’s not talk about it and you won’t have to see him ever again.” I wish I could erase the memory of his face from my mind and maybe I can be at ease and live my life as I normally did. But for some reason I feel like I will see more of the devil alpha in the future.

“Rogues!” someone calls out and I jump to my feet then ran to the door. When I get outside, I see four rogues fighting with two of our warriors. I know they are as good as dead. I get out and then I see three more. How did they cross out borders? ‘Everyone, about fifteen rogues managed to get into our lands, protect the pups.’ Alpha Zane’s voice says through the mind l**k.

Everyone here is well trained and can protect themselves. Except for the pups and pregnant she-wolves. I know that the warriors dedicated to the task are already executing it. so, I jump off the stairs then one of the rogues snaps its head in my direction. He looks at me for a moment before he comes charging at me and I took my fighting stance.

I do not shift but remain in my human form, he jumps coming for my throat and I moved my head slightly when he was close enough then held his back legs twist then threw him on the ground and he landed with a loud thud. He whimpers but before he could get up, I was already hovering on top of him then quickly snapped his head. I looked around for more but there is none, just bodies of those that were killed.

I do not understand how they still have guts to come here when the others have never come back after crossing our borders. I pull him by the leg then dump him with the others. “Outstanding job as usual kid.” I grin looking at one of the few people I get along with in this pack Mason. “Want me to prove to you again that am not a kid?” I raised an eyebrow looking at him.

He called me a kid in training last week and I challenged him to a match. Of course, I won but I also know that he was taking it easy on me. “No need, am still older than you.” He winks at me after saying that and I shook my heard. Then unusual silence follows, and I feel the hairs at the back of my neck getting up. I stiffened at the fear that raise from the pit of my stomach because this is not the first time, I felt this way today.

“Is everyone alright?” Asks alpha Zane but I do not lift my head to look at his direction because I can feel that he is not alone. “Everyone is fine alpha.” Mason answers, I try to not get noticed as take small steps backwards. “No so useless after all little pup.” I froze, his voice is rough to my ears and his breath smells like he has just eaten raw meat.

“This one fights well alpha Zane; I think that she will be a good addition to my pack.” I cringed when he said that I know that our pack trains good warriors and other packs would come and ask for a few of us to go and assist with whatever issue they have then come back. I wonder why the devil alpha needs warriors; I mean he is scary enough for everyone to fear him and his pack. Even rogues.

So why does he need warriors? “Indeed, she is one of our best. But I do not think she will be suitable for what you need, we do have special elites for that.” Special elites? That team of warriors is only trained to help with issues regarding witches and vampires. Does he have an issue with them maybe? “On the contrary, her speed is remarkable and her ability to think on her feet is also admirable. I want her.” he insists.

I think he just gave me a compliment, but I could be sure, my fear of him is clouding everything that is being said and all I keep hearing is ‘I want her’ “Alpha Deluca, please reconsider. She will get killed because she is not trained for such things.” Alpha Zane tries to persuade him again but from what I have heard about the devil alpha, he will not change his mind and then I am as good as dead.

Beads of sweat instantly form on my forehead when I think about that. “She won’t be the first one to die or the last. Also, if she dies then I can always come back and get another one.” After hearing that I forced my self to look up at my father, the devil alpha is behind me and alpha Zane and my dad in front of me. My father had his hands bailed into fists; I can tell that he is angry, but he has no say in this.

If alpha Zane fails to convince the devil alpha, then there is nothing he can do to stop this from happening. He can feel my eyes on him, but he refuses to look at me. I want him to look at me so that he can see that I do not blame him for any of this. “I would feel comfortable if you get exactly what you came here for, which is an elite warrior, and she is not one.” Alpha Zane tries again.

“If I were to take her away right now, would you dare to stop me alpha Zane?” I can hear a challenge in his voice, of course alpha Zane would not stop him. At what cost would he stop him? Many would die including him. “I take your silence as a no and if that is the case then, I shall take my leave. Good day alpha Zane.” Before I could register what is happening, he is already pulling me towards the car.

His hold on my feels so tight and I know that I could never escape even if I tried. I look at my dad and his eyes are red. He does not look at me for long before he walks away just when I am shoved roughly into the track. I look out the window, Lizzy, Mason, and Aunt Nora are standing by the door looking at me with pity in their eyes.

I force a smile then wave at them, at least if I die then I would have said my goodbyes. I wish my mother were here so that I can say goodbye to her as well, but I know my dad is going to tell her now. Oh, my poor mother, I can image how she would feel when she learns of this. The truck starts moving and it’s just the two of us here. ‘Oh, Goddess, please protect me.’ I say a little prayer hoping that the moon Goddess would hear me.

“I can smell your fear pup and it’s bothering me. You don’t want me to be bothered believe me it won’t end well for you.” My heart sank when he said that. Goddess how do I stop fearing him?
