Chapter four

Leaving her mate there was one of the hardest things Nimerah has ever done.

She Clutched her child to her body and ran as fast as she could.

With every step she took she had to fight herself not to go back, not to look back.

Her wolf Carla was pacing in rage around the confines of her mind wanting to go to the aid of her mate but she had to keep reminding her that they needed to get their cub to safety.

As Nimerah ran through the forest she could hear heavy pounds from the distance as the rogues gave chase.

Her eyes glowed yellow in the darkness letting her see clearly through Carla's eyes.

She winced painfully when a branch tore through her gown to her thighs leaving a long scratch mark on the skin.

" Are you alright? " her daughter asked in a tiny voice still holding on tightly to her as they raced for their lives.

" I am baby, don't worry about me, " Nimerah said to her cub with an assuring smile that didn't reach her eyes.

Up ahead she saw the boundary Barricade and increased her pace.

If she could make it past the barricade maybe she and her daughter will make it out alive.

While she ran with all her might she stumbled almost falling to her face as her whole body was gripped with an excruciating pain that forced out a scream from her throat.

Her mate was dead.

She clutched her chest tightly trying to curtail the pain that was squeezing tightly at her heart as the mate bond served.

Her wolf was also grueling in pain too as she felt the tearing of the mate bond from Denzel.

Nimerah's eyes flooded with tears blinding her, her pain making her almost too weak to continue.

" Mama are you okay? she heard her child asked again with worry as her tiny hand went to clean the tears that were running down her cheeks.

" Is papa coming to save us? " The girl asked staring at her mother's glittering eyes.

The words from her daughter caused Nimerah to crumble to the floor as she finally succumbed to the pain of the loss of her mate.

She began to sob hard, clutching her daughter to chest as she wept.

Her child tried to comfort her, throwing her tiny arms around her, while asking where her papa was.

Nimerah didn't have an answer to her child so she wept harder.

" You have to go now they are almost upon us, " Carla growled to her human half. She was raged at the loss of her mate and promised retribution to those responsible but first they have to make sure their cub was safe.

Nimerah stood and lifted her child into her arms and began to race to the border.

When she got there she put the little girl down and went to remove the sticks and blocks they had used to form their peripheral defense against intruders, not that it had done anything good for them today, Nimerah thought bitterly her thoughts going to her falling mate.

When she was satisfied by the space she created she allowed her daughter to go through first before creeping through the wide hole after her.

Free off their land she looked through the hole to see several rogues running in their direction.

She picked up her child and ran with all her might not looking back. There was nothing to look back for anymore.

As she ran she began to lose steam, her hands were getting tired and her child becoming heavier in her arms, the wounds she had sustained earlier further adding to weaken her but a look into the golden orbs of her daughter she knew she had to continue.

" Let me out she can stay on my back, you know I am faster, " Carla suggested to her human half.

Nemirah thought about her wolf's plan, she was right they will be faster with Carla but she was scared of her child falling off if she was on Carla's back.

" Why don't you trust her she is smart enough to hold on, "Carla said, reading her human's thoughts.

Looking back Nemirah saw that the rogues had made it through the barricade and was closing in on them. Since her body was getting weak she had no option than to go with Carla's suggestion.

She dropped her daughter to the ground and squat to her level.

" Sweetie Mummy is going to let her wolf out, some bad people are chasing us so you are going to climb to her back and hold on tight while she runs. Never take your hand off her do you understand, " she spoke to her daughter in a tender but stern tone making sure she understood the seriousness of her instructions.

The girl nodded her head, before rushing to hug her mummy.

" I love you mummy, " she whispered into her neck.

" I love you, baby, " Nimerah replied hugging her daughter tightly for a second before she pulled away.

" Head towards the Black moon pack, " she told her other half allowing her to come forward.

" Why the Blackmoon pack? " Carla questioned her human half as she waited for her cub to mount her.

At first the little girl was finding it difficult climbing up her body so Carla went on low to make it easier for her.

Certain that her cub was safely upon her back, Carla sped off through the forest in the direction of the Blackmoon pack.

She was skeptical of going to the Black moon pack and would prefer the Gray moon pack whom she believes to be the kinder of the two.

" The Black moon pack is strong enough to protect her, " Nimerah said to her wolf hearing her thoughts.

" Yes, but they also don't do well with outsiders if I am not mistaken they shoot outsiders that trespass into their territory on-site without questions."

Her wolf was right the Black moon pack has always preferred to be on their own and has always been skeptical of outsiders believing that they are not to be trusted but, her mate had been somewhat of a friend to the current alpha and believes they will be better off with them.

Behind them, the growls and sound of heavy paws falling to the ground was getting closer.

" FASTER CARLA! " Nimerah screamed to her wolf worried about being caught up by the rogues. She needed to get to the black moon pack, the only pack the rogues dread to trespass.

Carla felt her heart race with adrenaline as she raced through the forest her big body falling down branches that stood in her way.

She was not going to let rogues get to her cub. She was not losing another person dear to her today. She growled in rage as she remembered her lost mate.

Focused was she on making her escape that she wasn't aware of the rogues that took a different route to cut them off till she was knocked into by a heavy body throwing her off balance.

She heard her cub cry out as her tiny body impacted hard with the ground.

She looked to see the girl lying still on the ground and her eyes glowed with rage.

She could feel the urging from her human half to take control but she refused.

Nimerah growled in anger and frustration when her wolf wouldn't let her out to see to her daughter who has yet to move after her crash to the ground.

Carla turned to face the rogue that had knocked into her and attacked with ferociousness, she was pissed off that the wolf dared to harm her cub. She went for his neck trying to tear his throat out.

The wolf was smaller than her so it was an easy fit.

The little rogue went to invade her grasp but she was a lot quicker and without giving it a chance to fight back she tore its throat apart.

She could hear the sound of his comrades heading in their direction so she hurried in the direction of her falling cub she pulled at her with her teeth trying to get her to move.

The little girl groaned in pain before fluttering her eyes open.

" LET ME OUT NOW! " Nimerah ordered her wolf.

When she was once again human she pulled her daughter up and clutched her tightly to her body relief that she was alright.

" Listen, baby, I want you to continue down this path as fast as you can when you get to the next territory enter there they will keep you safe."

" What about you mummy? " The girl asked staring at her mother with fear.

" Mama has to stay and make sure that the bad wolf doesn't follow you. "

Nimerah hugged her daughter who was hugging her legs once more before pushing her away with tears in her eyes.

" RUN BABY!!! " She cried as her daughter took to the forest.

Satisfied that her daughter was no longer in immediate danger, Nemirah turned to face the rogues that had arrived at the clearing.

" Is up to you now Carla, " she said letting her wolf take over.

Carla emerged and smirked at the rogues. It was payback time for the death of her mate.

One of the rogues which were a little bit bigger than Carla rushed at her, trying to swipe her with its sharp claws but Carla was quick to shift away, turning around to claw the wolf in his eyes.

The wolf let out an angry growl while his mates came at Carla at once.

Carla leaped up above the mass of wolves coming at her watching with amusement as they crashed into each other.

They all turned at once to regard her with fury in their glowing eyes.

They started to circle her, so Carla kept turning around trying to keep the five rogues in her sight.

She knew she wouldn't be able to defeat them if they all came at her at once so she picked out the weakest among them and went after her.

Before the rest could react she was already at the throat dislodging the head from the rest of the body.

One down, four to go, Carla thought with a cocky smirk.

One of the bigger wolves rushed at her with all his strength and Carla met him halfway, though he looked to be a few pounds heavier, she was quicker and she used that to her advantage.

When the wolf leaped up in her direction she did as if going to meet him up there but changed her mind at a critical point and went below him clawing his underbelly open as she went.

The wolf crashed to the floor dead.

Carla felt a snipe at her back and turned to see one of the rogues had sneaked up on her.

" SON OF A BITCH! " Nemirah cursed in pain as Carla shifted away quickly to avoid another dangerous swipe.

While Carla fought with the wolf another came at her from her side and then she felt the presence of the third.

It wasn't easy but Carla was able to defeat the rogues.

She stood panting and bleeding from the fresh cuts she took during the fight while the rogues lay dead at her feet.

She turned to follow the path her cub had followed but stopped when she felt his presence.
