Chapter Five

"Okay then," saying that he removed the covers and carried her towards the bathroom. Jin Chen was really surprised at Yang Lifei's attitude. She was never accepting or rejecting their engagement, but how come she was acting so different?

Did the drug interfere with her brain cells? He had no idea but at least whatever happened made him feel happy. If things were to change in the future, he would just tie her up with him and never let her leave!

He hoped she wouldn't want to leave though.

Jin Chen made her sit in the counter beside the sink before squeezing toothpaste on the toothbrush and helped her brush her teeth. Yang Lifei enjoyed all of these silently without thinking too much about anything. She knew that her attitude was different and the man had questions but she put that in the back of her mind.

She had missed all the pampering in her last life because of her hotheadedness, she'll enjoy them in this life!

After helping her wash up, he carried her back to the bedroom and put her on the bed again before bringing the tray in front of her.

"Do you want me to feed you?" He asked with his expectant eyes. He was clearly enjoying this and Yang Lifei didn't disappoint him.

"Sure," she agreed easily. Saves her the energy of moving her hands.

Her reply instantly brought a smile to his face. His face was so beautiful with those dimples on his cheeks when he smiled. He always smiled in her past life whenever they didn't fight but Yang Lifei always felt like his smile was like an eyesore. That was because she had less freedom and seeing him smile would always drive her to the edge.

Just how stupid was she back then?

"Come on," he urged her when he saw that she was lost in thoughts. He liked how she would get lost in her thoughts whenever she looked at his face but her eyes held deep mysteries that he really wanted to solve. He wanted to unveil all the secrets that were hidden deep in her eyes.

That will be done with time, he thought to himself.

They didn't make any talks while eating but the atmosphere was very harmonious. In between her eating, she would urge him to eat as well and the food ended being eaten by the two of them. He then wiped her mouth gently with the paper towel he had carried on the tray before making to stand up and return the tray downstairs but his wrist was held by Yang Lifei which made him to immediately tense.

'Here it comes,' he thought the moment he had been fearing has finally reached. Yang Lifei clearly felt the stiffness but still held onto him. There are some things that she had to clear between them if they were to have a harmonious relationship.

"Jin Chen..." She called out in a low voice.

"Hmm," he didn't want to look into her eyes but he was forced to and was surprised to find different emotions that he never expected. Her eyes were filled with warmth and...love? He hoped that what he saw was right. There was no accusation or disappointment that he had expected that made him sigh in relief but he didn't let his guard down, yet.

"Don't you have something to ask me?* She wanted him to ask her anything that was bothering him so she could clear the air between them.

"Do you not blame me for what happened last night?" It was now or never since she had brought it up. He also wanted to satisfy the curiosity within him but still she could feel a trace a nervousness in his voice.

He was afraid. Afraid of being rejected by her yet she wasn't planning on doing that, not in this life.

"No I don't," she answered his question without hesitation and she saw his eyes widen in surprise.

"Why? We're clearly not so close even though we've been planning on getting engaged and I took advantage of you in your most vulnerable state?" His answers were more like questions.

"Yeah that's right. But don't forget, you're already my fiance and we'll be getting married in the future. One way or another, this was bound to happen. Not to sound shameless but I was very much conscious yesterday so take it like I gave my consent," she explained with seriousness but at the end she smiled at him.

This man loved her so much that he was even being careful around her. Though things were different from their previous life, after their first misunderstanding on their engagement, he always did like he pleased and would rarely listen to her. That was because her dear friend was always there to make sure that everyone followed her plans. Causing leaps and leaps of misunderstanding between them.

"So...?" He wanted to ask, 'are we good' but that word refused to leave his throat.

"Yes, we're. And Jin Chen could you please not be too careful with me? I'm not some porcelain doll and I'm not going to break. Although I've never given much thought about our engagement since I had no choice, anyway I had never found a better man than you, can you take it as I am giving us a chance to be together and work things out," she raised her hand and caressed his cheeks gently. Jin Chen could feel the warmth emanating from the dainty fingers and he leaned in as he closed his eyes. He was enjoying the feeling of having her hands caress him.

How much had he dreamt of a day like this? With her now in his house, in his bed, her hands on his cheeks, talking about giving them a chance, how could he not be happy?

How could he not love her deeply?

"Thank you," he said with a deep voice with his eyes still closed.

Thank you for giving me a chance. Giving us, a chance.

He covered her hand that was on his cheek with his as he rubbed it softly. He hoped that all this was not a dream and that he was not going to wake up and find all of them gone.

When he opened his eyes, they were whirling with deep emotions that she never got the chance to notice in her last life, ''You don't have to thank me."

She felt terrible and could feel her tears were on the brim of falling. She couldn't help but throw herself into his embrace and if Jin Chen was not fast enough as he removed the tray and put aside on the bed, the leftovers could have been all over the bed. Soon her sobs were heard making the man panick.

From what he knew, she had lived a good life with parents and brother pampering her, so why was she sad? He didn't know that this were all the gievances that she had suffered in her previous life.

Was there something that he overlooked about her?
