Mr. Azariah didn't expect it, but then, he could not say no to his children, not when he was still trying to make his plans none as being positive, he wasn't doing anything inside the room, and therefore it would make his children disobey him, or more, disrespect him. 

Azariah contemplated whether he should do it, but kind of accepted it when he had nothing wrong to prove to them.
