The other young lad was just exiting the office as I made my back there. It hadn’t been long since I had left, but by the look of things, they had already rejected him. This did not surprise me; he wasn’t much older than me and his body type was not too dissimilar either. I offered him a small smile of comfort as I passed him by, but I had no intention of stopping to talk with him about things.
As I found myself back at the office, I could tell that the CEO was still within, as I heard him speaking with someone on the phone’s loudspeaker. I couldn’t quite hear who he was speaking with, but at a guess, it was the woman from before. I almost felt bad for interrupting them, but I felt this couldn’t wait until they finished.
I took a deep breath in and opened the door with a bit more force than I had planned to use. Kain paused in what he was talking about and looked up at me through his glasses. He did not look impressed to see me in the least. In
Shiya had been rather nice to me on the way down to the lobby and walked me to the front doors before leaving me outside to go back to her own work. She did not comment on what I had done, perhaps because there wasn’t much more to say about it. I just couldn’t believe someone like the Wulf man had got the job over me and had somehow kept it despite the filth he was. I couldn’t move from the spot for a while before I sighed and took a few steps to head home. I hesitated and looked back at the building. No. I would not give up just yet. There had to be a way to make the CEO see I was more than qualified to work for him. The fire inside of me hadn’t gone out just yet. I just needed an idea. I couldn’t go back into the building without the risk of security being called on me, but I could wait out here. There was no way Kain Jones used the front entrance, though. That meant there had to be a back entrance people came in and out of to come and go unn
The first blow lands in my gut, causing me to buckle over as far as I can go while being held by the big dude behind me. I don’t even have that much money on me, or even a phone. I had to scrape up what little I could just to afford the outfit for today and that meant selling what little I owned. It was a cruel irony in a way. The leader didn’t hold back his punches and when he had grown bored with hitting me; he let his friends have their fun. At least they weren’t punching my face… THWACK My cheek stung from the blow. I shouldn’t have tested fate by thinking about it. It was inevitable, really. Another blow landed on my other cheek. Regardless, I did my best to endure their onslaught of punches. As they slowed down, I shot them a small glare. I refused to give them the satisfaction of showing them any pain. Big mistake. The leader had the big fellow knock me to the ground and before I could get up or roll away, the fiv
When Kain had said limo, he had really meant the longest freaking car in the entire world. I was pretty sure he had a swimming pool in this limo, a bar and probably an entire house! Or maybe I was just being overly dramatic because I was not used to seeing a limo… all I knew was that this really was the longest car I had ever seen in my life! I was so stunned at the size of this thing that I had almost forgotten about the beating I had just endured. Drake seemed somewhat uncomfortable allowing Kain to open his own car door, but with me in his arms, he had little choice. Once the limo’s door was open, I remembered what was going on and tried to squirm my way out of his grasp. “You don’t need to take me anywhere. I’m fine and will manage!” I try to protest, but Drake doesn’t seem to listen to my request to be let go. Kain stands aside and allows Drake to put me into the limo, but before I can make my way back out again, Kain is already ge
For most of the ride, I spend it gawking at the various things inside the limo. There really is a whole cocktail bar in here! No swimming pool, but there are various options to turn it into a party car with working lights and all! I can’t even imagine how much this thing costs to own, let alone keep it in working order. I am so tempted to press some buttons and find out what each of them does, but I remind myself that I would only annoy Kain by doing so. I spare a glance at him, but he is fully engrossed in his work right now. Looking back at the buttons, I mull over each of them before turning my attention to the bar with the various drinks. I admit I am envious of Kain’s lavish lifestyle. I can only dream of this sort of thing right now. It takes about half an hour before the limo slows down and Kain finally puts his tablet away. He looks down at a watch on his wrist and then smiles to himself. He then turns to face me and nods his he
The elevator ride takes nearly too long, but on the plus side, once we’ve got out of the basement section of the building, we can see the view outside of the elevator’s building and onto the streets below. We’re in a much quieter area of the major city of Krusas. Directly below us, and what must be the backyard of this lavish resort-style apartment complex, is a tremendously luscious garden complete with water fountains, a maze and a large gazebo where I assume bands play their music for guests during social gatherings. I can’t help but gawk at it all. I’ve seen sizable gardens before, there are some the public can use, but they’re never anything like this and they’re far and few between in this monstrous city. No one really remembers when the city came to be, or who really runs it because we don’t really have any elected officials here, but many say that the richest of families were the founders and it is from them that the city continues to grow and
As the lights come on, I am amazed at what I see. The hallway leading into the apartment isn’t long, but it is wide. To the right is a spacious bathroom built with a walk-in bath, which might actually be a Jacuzzi! There is also a walk-in shower, toilet and sink. The whole thing looks absolutely stunning. Though the one thing that stands out above all else is the large windows and mirrors. It’s not like anyone can see anything this high up, but I still feel conscious about how visible it feels in there. Like there is no privacy at all. I manage to peel my eyes away from the bathroom, only to find myself within the living room with an open-plan dining room at the back. Large, comfortable-looking sofas and couches sit in the middle of the room, all facing the wall where an extensive flatscreen TV is mounted. Everything looks tidy, with nothing out of place here. Several bookcases line another wall, all of them full of DVD’s or books. Many of them
An hour passes by in almost near silence as Kain settles down to check his social media accounts on his tablet, though he allows me to borrow one of his books to keep me entertained while he does so. This book is one that Kain himself has written. It is one of the few I’ve never been able to get my hands on because of my situation and most copies are really expensive to buy these days! I waste no time getting into it, as I do not know how long Kain will allow me to stay here once morning comes. I’m about halfway through the book when I hear Kain say to me, “would you like a drink, Mister Smith?” I glance up from the book and smile sheepishly. “I’d love a drink, thanks. What do you have?” I ask politely. Kain is so hard to read. I can’t tell if he’s a kind person, or if he’s unpleasant. So far, most of my interactions with him have been the latter, but he’s shown he can be nice too, so I’m torn about how to take his attitude towards me.
“Say it again!” I blurted out as my eyes remained wide and bulging at what I had just heard. I wasn’t sure if I had received Kain correctly. With a rather concerned look, Kain repeated his words slowly as he once more said, “I will let you join my company.” I needed to hear nothing else and in my excitement; I ignored all personal boundaries to leap over and wrap my arms around Kain’s neck. “You do not know what this means to me! I promise you’ll not regret giving me this chance! I’ll do anything you need me to do to grow and improve! Promise,” I said with enthusiasm. Kain was silent for a moment and it was only through this silence that I realised how tense he was with me, holding him like this. I reluctantly let go, my face burning with embarrassment. “S-sorry…” I mumbled though I was still overly excited. “Do not make me regret this choice, Mister Smith,” Kain said, once he was relaxed again. “You will start at the very botto
