The Job Offer

Chapter 6

Emerald together with Jason and his parents then went to the office room. Jack sat on his desk while Rachel took some papers in the filing cabinet behind her husband’s desk. Jason and Emily sat on the two visitor’s chair in front of his desk. Rachel went in front of Emerald and handed her a pen and laid the two piece of paper in front of Emerald.

“I will discuss your job then you can read the contract first before signing Emerald.” Jack started.

“Okay, Uncle.” Emerald replied.

“We decided to get Jason a tutor a long time ago but he always declined. We were shocked when he told us last week that he now agrees to have a tutor but he should be the one to choose who it will be.” Jack continued.

“He always mentioned us about you. Like he always talk about you all the time and we are glad that he find a friend such as you. I have always wanted to meet you but our schedule doesn’t cooperate.” Rachel said.

“Jason here, asked us to make you his tutor. I conducted a background check at your school Emerald to make sure you are qualified and your scholastic records are impressive. You are more than qualified to be Jason’s tutor and I know my son is in the right good hands. You can now read the contract and tell me if you have any questions or clarifications.” Jack said.

“Okay, Uncle.” she said and nodded.

Emerald started reading the contract and her eyes widened as she reached the pay and compensations part of the contract. She looked at Jason and he just smiled, she then looked at Rachel and Uncle Jack. She could not believe she will have that such amount of money as her salary.

“Wow, this is too much Uncle. The salary is very high. Are you sure I will have $5,000 every month as a basic salary and $2,500 monthly allowance?” Emerald asked.

“Yes, of course dear. You deserve that, teaching is never easy. Especially Jason.” Jack replied.

“I would gladly accept this offer. Thank you very much Uncle, Auntie and best of all thank you Jason.” Emerald said as she signed the contract.

………………………………………..

“Hey, are you okay?” Emerald asked.

“What do you think?” Jason answered her question with just a question.

“Someone’s grumpy.” she whispered.

“I can hear you, Emerald.” he said.

They are currently on their way to her house and Jason was grumpy the entire night from the dinner until Tyler went home. Jason’s best friend even insisted that he will take her home but Jason pointed out that there are some family matters that need to be discussed between him, his parents and Emerald.

Apparently, what Jason said was true. She and his family had something to discuss but that was her job offer.  The couple asked her to be Jason’s personal tutor, and of course Emerald immediately accepted. It would be a big help for her since the pay is higher compared to her previous part time job and she doesn't have to endure the sleepless night. She can focus more on her studies.

He really did make Tyler believe that she was his girlfriend. Emerald tried so hard not to laugh seeing how possessive Jason is. Until now he still looks serious, he was never like the Jason that Emerald is used to, it looks like the old Jason was gone. Will he ever come back to his old self? She missed the old Jason already. She has no idea why Jason became so serious all of a sudden but she respects his privacy so she never asked.

Fortunately, Jason’s parents did not ask neither confirmed their relationship unlike what Emerald expected. She thought that they will ask about it since the two of them really looked like a sweet couple during the dinner thanks to Jason calling him babe and being extra sweet to her. She feels annoyed with Tyler so she just ride on to his act.

“Hey, you’re back.” Emerald’s mother said.

“Good evening, Auntie.” he greeted her mother.

“Good evening, Jason. Thank you for bringing Emerald safely.” her mother said.

“Of course, Auntie. I took her, so it is my responsibility to bring her back safe and sound.” Jason replied.

“You are such a good kid. Would you like to come in and have some coffee?” her mother offered.

“Thank you Auntie but I need to go home because it's getting late.” her friend respectfully declined.

“Oh, yeah. You are right. Well, drive home safely okay.” her mother said.

“Yes, Auntie. Bye. Emerald, I have to go, bye.” Jason said and waved goodbye.

“Bye, take care.” she and her mother said together.

After Jason‘s car disappeared her mother gladly held her hand and they both went inside the house together. It was already 11:00 in the evening but her mother seems has no plans of sleeping yet as she accompanied Emerald in her room. She knows that she is excited to hear about what happened in the Belle’s house.

Emerald on the other hand, is as excited as her mother that she can’t wait until tomorrow to tell her the good news. She smiled at her as they both entered her room. They both sat on the edge of the bed but her mother looks like she remember something.

“I think you need to clean up and change first, honey.” she suggested.

“Yeah, okay just wait for me here Mom. I won’t be long.” she said.

Her mother laughed and nodded. Emerald then run towards her bathroom and cleaned herself up. Emilia on the other hand, prepared her daughter’s pajama. It has been a while that she last did that, Emerald was only ten years old. Her daughter seems so excited that she forgot to bring her pajamas and she just hurriedly went to the bathroom.

“You forgot your pajamas dear. Don’t worry I will hand them over.” She said.

“Gosh, how could I forget? Thanks Mom!” she shouted from the bathroom.

Emilia handed the garments to her daughter and after a few minutes Emerald went out to the bathroom. She looks genuinely happy and it shows on the smile on her face. With that, Emilia instantly knew that she has a good news.

“So, how did it go sweetie?” she asked.

“It was all good mom. Jason’s parents are really nice and kind just like him. They never treat me or show me that I am not on the same level with them. They are super humble.” Emerald replied.

“Did they like the food I prepare?” Emilia asked nervously.

“They don’t like it Mom. They actually loved it.” she said.

“Really, I’m glad.” Emilia smiled.

“You won’t believe it Mom. Jason’s parents offered me to be their son’s personal tutor. But of course how could I decline? I gladly accept it but the best part is that the pay Mom. It will really help us a lot. Here is the contract.” she said as she handed the contract to her mother.

“Wow, this is too much for just being a tutor.” her mother’s eyes widened.

“Yes, I know Mom. I was so grateful to Jason. His parents told me that they wanted to get Jason a tutor ever since but he turned them down. But last week, he was the one who asked his parents to have a tutor of his own choice of course and he choose me.” Emerald said.

“That kid is God sent. Don’t you dare take advantage of his kindness dear and always be nice to him.” Emilia reminded.

“Of course, Mom. By the way Mom, can I ask for a favor?” Emerald said.

“Sure, what is it baby?” her mother asked.

“I would like to sleep beside you tonight. Can you sleep here in my room?” she said.

Her mother smiled and respond by nodding. Emerald then gladly hugged her mother. She sleep soundly that night in her mother’s arms. She is very optimistic that everything will be fine and their struggle will be over soon. With Jason and his family’s help, Emerald finds hope. Her mother Emilia sleep comfortably as well. She felt inner peace and happy inside. She is not aware what will happen in the future but she is certain that she will surpass every obstacle that life will throw at her as long as she has her daughter by her side. Her precious Emerald is her life and she will die if ever someone will take her away.
