Chapter 4

I can't believe  Emily will do this to us, to the family, and Christian. Despite their age difference, he truly loved her. Or that what I think if he didn't, he wouldn't agree to marry her.

You could see it in his eyes whenever you see them together, he somehow looks like someone whose world is coming to an end. What will happen now?

The ringing of my phone brought me out of my state of shock. It was Emily who was calling.

I didn't think for a second before answering the call. Emily, where are you, and what the meaning of this? I asked her.

"Emery relax, I can't tell you why I did what I did, but I seriously want you to apologize to the guests. Tell Christian to forgive me." She hung up on me.

She didn't even let me alter a word; instead, she hanged up. When I called back, her phone is off.

I have to tell at least mum and dad first.  So I went downstairs, and the make-up artist was already at the breakfast table eating and laughing with the rest of my family.

Mums friends will be meeting us at the church as agreed. The question is will there even be a wedding? Because the bride is nowhere to be seen.

Maddie has stuffed too much food into her mouth; she only grins at me, she nodded at the empty chair beside her. She raised an eyebrow silently, asking if I saw Emily.

I shook my head,  had a lot ahead of me. Thing's to worry about than seating at the table and stuffing my mouth with food.

"Mum dad, can I have a word with you alone. "Immediately those words left my mouth. Maddie asked if everything is alright.

"Maddie, you should also hear this since you are also like a family." I smiled at the make-up artist who was looking at us weirdly.

"Everything alright there, dear," Mum asked immediately we entered the kitchen. She looked so worried.

"And where is  Emily, I haven't seen her since this morning," Dad said from behind us taking water from the fridge.

"Well, mum and dad that the reason why I called you guys here. I took out the letter and showed it to them."

Mum nearly fainted after reading the letter if not for dad's support. Maddie is just surprised as I was when I found out about the news.

"No, this can't be happening.  The wedding has been broadcasted, and the Ashfords are good and respectable people. We can't do this to them.  We will lose our dignity in society. People will look down upon us in this town." Mum sobbed in her palms as dad rubbed her back.

Our family is also a well-known family because of dad's work and mum's famous and fabulous event planning. I took after mum, although I'm learning fashion design alongside.

"There is nothing we can do honey. Emily has made her decision, and she has planned on bringing disgrace upon us she has achieved that." Dad said trying not to shed tears himself.

I felt bad for my parents.  Upon all what Emily did, I don't hate her, I hope she has a good reason.

"Will you call the Ashfirds to cancel the wedding please I want to be alone now," Mum said to dad, without looking at any of us.

Maddie is standing by counter quietly.  I could feel the anger rolling off her in waves.

Her parents and my parents are best friends.  So we were raised up together.

Like sisters. Her parents just like mine had a busy schedule because they are both lawyers and they own half of the law firms here in Seattle.

"Mum wait, don't go. I think I got a plan." I said I didn't know about what the consequence of my actions will be, but I will do anything for the ones I love.

"I will marry Christian in place of Emily. People will not recognize the difference between Emily and me." I said as looking at the tiled floor

I will tell Christian everything after the wedding. I hope he understands me and forgives Emily.
