She looked at her phone as Andy disconnected, promising her to call back. It was past midnight and he would be reaching sometime in the morning. She might as well sleep.

But she was super charged. She looked at their bedroom. It looked empty without Andy.

It wasn’t like she hadn’t stayed here alone before, neither was it like Andy had never stayed away.

He had been away for a month before this. Yet, knowing how far away he was made it all the more difficult for her.

She missed her boyish boyfriend. She tapped at the back of her head, “No silly! Your fiance!”

She said aloud to herself and beamed.

She repeated the word fiance, letting her lips purse as the word rolled off her tongue. It sounded scary, scarier than the bullet that almost hit her today.

But it was happy and scary, she loved the apprehension. She couldn’t believe that after being alone for a lifetime, she was blessed with such a loving partner who understood her work and the uncertainties that came with it.
