Light & Darkness: Book 2
Light & Darkness: Book 2
Author: Katherine Monroe

~Prologue: Foreword~

In order for the readers to fully understand the content of the book, I cite the characters that will appear in the novel:

Succubus (def.) - (Middle-Latin: succubus; from Latin: succuba - "concubine") - in demonology, succubus are demons who take the form of unearthly beautiful women, haunting men in their dreams and tempting them with sexual intercourse. Many sources say that the succubus' motivation is to drain life energy. It is also said that through sexual intercourse with men, succubus collected their sperm, which incubbus later used to impregnate women, and children thus begotten would be especially vulnerable to the influence of Satan.

Lilith - Mesopotamian demon kidnapping children. This character is sometimes called the first wife of the biblical Adam. Perhaps Lilith has a connection with Inanna, the Sumerian goddess of war and sexual pleasure. There are many variations of the myth about Lilith: Jerome associated her with the Greek Lamia - the Libyan queen associated with Zeus. After Zeus abandoned Lamia, Hera kidnapped her children, which in turn caused Lamia to kidnap foreign children. Her original Akkadian name was "Lilitu" and the translation from Hebrew is "Lilith", "Lillith" or "Lilit". Her name in Hebrew is Lilit (literally). In some sources, she is called the mother of succubus and incubbus.

Samael, the Angel of Death (Samaël, Samiel, Siegel, Satan, Satanael, Samuel, Sammael) - the angel of death: delivering death sentences but also stopping the execution (cf. akeda), controversial angel, accuser, seducer, spirit of destruction. Etymologically, the word Samael is derived from the Hebrew "sami" - blind, or aram. "samu" - venom, poison. So this name can be translated as: "Blind God" or - "Venom of God". The name may also come from the Syrian god Shemal. In the Jewish tradition, Samael is the angel of death, governing the "Seventh Heaven", one of the seven messengers of God in the world, who is served by two million angels, he tempted Eve in Paradise as a serpent (apparently he seduced her later and fathered Cain), he also stopped the hand of Abraham when he wanted to sacrifice his son's life. In the Jewish Sacred Books of Kabbalah, Samael is referred to as the severity of God and is considered the fifth archangel of the world - the executor of God's death sentences. He is the embodiment of anger and is associated with prostitution. (Quite wrong, because this is "patronized" by Asmodeus). Some Jewish texts say that Samael was created on the sixth day of Creation and was God's favorite Angel. Before the fall, he was to "wear [all the angels] as a garment, for he was superior to all in knowledge and glory."

In the Christian tradition, Samael is a fallen angel, expelled from heaven for opposing God, belonging to the first circle known as the Seraphim. According to one of the legends, Samael triggered the Second War in Heaven (the First War - Lucifer). He disobeyed God by refusing to pay homage to Adam, claiming that he, born of light, would not bow to a being made of mud. Samael is one of the Angels of Judgment as the Divine Accuser; he often goes hand in hand with Michael the Archangel, the Protector. According to the Polish demonologist Roman Zając, Samael should be identified with Satan.
