Just in the nick of time, I ducked to avoid the blow to the head. Before standing up, I lunged forward. My right shoulder came into contact with his midsection.

Using all the strength I possessed, I slammed him up against the door. The sound of a heavy object, hitting the floor, rang out so loud I jumped slightly. I figured it was the sledgehammer falling, which meant he no longer had a weapon.

Being he was human, I felt like I had the advantage here. Except he was stronger than most humans. Now that I knew he was the mate Cory had been speaking of, I understood why. He held a semblance of the strength his mate had, even if he was just human.
