Mariah hisses, and Luna's eyes become bright green as her cougar emerges. My inner wolf immediately cowers.

"Benji has been asking you if you wanted to be his mate, and you have been beating around the bush! Spill the beans right now, Mariah or my pack will be forced to gain the information in other ways," Alpha growls, and Luna's muscles strain.

She is fighting against her animal better than most. Most freshly shifted shifters have problems holding back their inner animal when it's pissed. But Luna is handling it like a professional.

Mariah looks at me briefly, and I see regret in her eyes. My heart begins to pound in my chest, and worry replaces all my protective feelings. I knew in my heart something wasn't right, but I was so happy to see her I pushed the feeling away. I should have guessed she hadn't changed her mind.
