Worth a Try

When Frank left to attend to his daily tasks, Jennifer took the canvas to begin preparing her surprise. She placed the canvas in such a way that what she drew couldn't be seen when Frank entered the room.

"Maybe I should paint a starry night in the background….like the beautiful night sky I saw last night." She wondered out loud as she sketched the portrait of his mother. She had taken the picture album from the closet when Frank left in the morning. 

She looked through the varieties of paint she had bought the other day.

"Aww, shucks! I don't have suitable paint to make a night sky," pouting, she grumbled. Sighing, she leaned back in the seat. She closed her eyes and imagined the breathtaking beauty she had witnessed the night before. An involuntary smile curved her lips. 

"I want a night sky," she mumbled and glanced at the canvas. She was certain that it would add to the perfection of her gift.
