THE WEEK
All the days of the week that the students were having an introduction to the first year of senior high school to help them choose a stream they would be comfortable devoting their lives to had been interesting with everyone involved in deciding which stream they were willing to build their careers in.
For Marie it had also been extraordinarily interesting with so many things that had been happening in her life all at the same time, especially with Jacob having shown extra interest in her. The first day of the new academic year he had asked if he could join Jean and her for lunch at the cafeteria as senior high students had the liberty to eat with the boys on the few tables that were assigned to them specifically for this purpose.

The first day at home, Marie did not think about anything to do with school. She did not even do anything much at all except for lying on the bed and playing with Shadow. Her bags were still kept on one side of the room, and that was pissing off her step-mom because they were still unpacked.Marie had some clothes in the cupboard at home, and she was changing into those because it had been months that she had been wearing the selected ones which she had taken to the hostel. The next day in the morning as soon as the sun rays fell on Marie’s face, it seemed like a very bright morning to her as she opened her eyes to welcome a new day of her life at home with the hope that it was going to be a better day. Suddenly, she remembered that she had to call Jean today, and that thought made her get up from the bed immediately.Shadow became alert and barked a little to see sudden movement, but he calmed down just when Marie saw him and gave him her hand to smell it. Jean’s reply to her message really made her very excited, and both of them started chatting with each other by sending one message after the other person replied, and that was happening in a jiffy because both of them were sitting with their phones in their hands.Marie: “I have been at home only. The time stopped for Marie and Jean as they spotted each other in the park and continued staring at one another as they were walking reciprocally towards the other person. The next morning also Marie woke up early without an alarm. Maybe someone said it right, there is nothing that you cannot achieve if you truly want it and have your mind fixed on it. That was the reason that Marie did not need an alarm to wake up early only because she had plans of meeting Jean and despite the fact that she was not a morning person.In school and in the hostel everything was fine, but even if she woke up in the morning to have breakfast on the weekends, she would still get in bed soon after and stay lazy for the whole time. That would even happen during her holidays at home, but this time it was different. Summer holidays started getting better for Marie as she began feeling all grown up and being able to meet Jean without her parents coming to know about it. Her intent to meet Jean was different and was more on the romantic side, unlike the way that she felt to meet other friends of hers, hence she did not want to let her parents know about her friendship with Jean. She did not find difficulty in lying and manipulating her parents about the long walks which she started to have with Shadow.And now there was yet another adventure for her to convince her parents to go to a male friend’s birthday party. Marie’s parents were orthodox, and they could not understand if a boy and girl could be just friends. The driver parked the car right in front of the main staircase that headed to the hall where the party had to happen, and the girls quickly hopped off the car very excitedly. The exhilaration was to meet all the other people from school in their best dresses. It was not as if the other students had not seen everybody in their casual attire because they had seen their friends in all kinds of garments.It was nothing new to them because in the hostel they would see each other wearing such clothes except for the fact that there were only a few occasions that they were allowed to show off their party wear clothes to create uniformity because not everybody could afford expensive looking clothes.
