I wake up and realize that I didn't hear the alarm go off. "Fuck!" It's 7:15 and I have to be to work in 45 minutes. Usually I wake up at 6 and go to the gym first, take a shower and eat breakfast before going in. This morning though will screw up everything. No gym and no breakfast.
Not having a choice, I have to skip the gym. Taking a shower is the number one priority, considering I smell like sex after last night. I guess I didn't realize just how tired I was. That is a mistake I can't afford this morning. My meeting with the owner is of the utmost importance.
He is trying to decide if we downsize or expand the company. Depending on the numbers in my report, it could mean a big payout for me. Hoping that he decides on expansion, I prepare for the day with a shower and a donut from last night. When I grab the donut out of the brown paper bag, I notice the note discarded on the table from yesterday.
Mr. Hamilton. I won't be coming in to work tomorrow. My mother is ill and I need to go to the hospital to see her. I hope you have a good day and I will see you the following day. Signed Ms. DiAngelo.
Hmm. I hope she gets better, but now I have to get to the office. Wiping the crumbs off the corners of my mouth and making sure in the mirror that my tie is straight, I pick up my suit jacket and head out the door. After leaving the elevator, I hear someone behind me but I don't bother looking and leave as fast as I can.
When I reach the outside, I briefly forget that my car is at the shop and go to the parking garage. No such luck. Oh well, I quickly go to the street and hail a taxi. Waiting, I watch as an older woman tries to steal my cab. She grabs the door handle after sliding in front of me and opens it.
"Excuse me. This is my cab." I take ahold of her arm and move her out of my way, then I sit down in the cab and shut the door. She looks at me angrily and stomps off to grab another taxi, just down from mine.
The taxi driver glances back at me, "Where too?"
"The Denver Building, please." I smile and after he pulls out, I stare at my phone. With only ten minutes to spare, I hope that he hurries and there isn't a traffic jam. Soon after, we arrive two minutes before I have to be at my desk.
My boss is a stickler for the time clock, with a knack for showing up out of the blue, just to check up on me.
Rushing up the stairs, I arrive at my office to see him sitting at my desk. "Good morning, can i help you? I didn't think you were supposed to meet with me till a bit later."
He turns to look at me, "I just happened to be in the vicinity, so I figured that I could see if you had the worksheets down for me now."
"Yes, if you can wait a few minutes. I will print them out for you and we can go over them together." I rush to turn on my printer and laptop.
He starts laughing, "You do know, I am just messing with you, don't you?"
I glance over at him and put on my fake smile. I laugh, "Of course, but we might as well get it out of the way now."
After booting up the computer and signing in, I go to the printouts and proceed to print them for him. I hand them to him and he looks them over. Looking at my screen, we go over the sheets.
"So, in your professional opinion. Do you think we should expand?" He looks at me with a big smile on his face.
I look him dead in the eyes and tell him exactly what I think. "Yes, I do. Matter of fact, you are in the position of expanding over seas if you really want to. I would if I were you."
"Hmm, well I am not you. However, I do believe that we will expand. I need you to start looking for some fresh faces for the expansion. Any ideas?"
"Why don't you let me look into it and i will get back to you with whatever I find, say in a week." I start to riffle through my paperwork on the desk and hand him a couple things I have printed out in case he decided to expand. "Here, these are a couple of my ideas I have been kicking around."
Mr. Denver looks at them and then hands them back. "They look good to me, but let's talk about this next week when you put some of the other stuff together. Just call Eileen and set up an appointment and we will talk then." He gets up and walks out of my office.
Now that the pressure is off, I sit back in my chair and relax for the moment. In the next couple of weeks, I will be so busy my head is going to spin. Just thinking about it makes me anxious, so I call Theresa my secretary and have her bring me a cup of coffee.
When she comes in I look up and smile at her, "Thank you. You are awesome Theresa."
"You know I live to serve you." She smiles and laughs, before she leaves the office and returns to her desk.
For the rest of the day, I work on paperwork and make calls. When I do take the time to relax for a few minutes, I find myself thinking of last night again and the woman. I really wish that I had taken the time to get her name and her phone number. Maybe, then I wouldn't be constantly thinking about her every time I have a spare minute.
Six o'clock rolls around and I start to get hungry. With my stomach growling, I shut down the computer and call it a day. Theresa has already gone home, so I just shut the door behind me and walk downstairs.
Not really knowing where to go for dinner, I pick a bistro just down from the office and grab a quick bite to take home. With coffee in hand and my brown paper bag, I find a taxi waiting for a fare and get in. Telling him where to go, I relax and can't wait to get home.
The warmth of the bag on my leg reminds me of last night and how good she felt and tasted. Boy, I sure am hungry. Opening the bag, I unwrap the sandwich and take a bite. It has to be one of the best chicken sandwiches I have ever tasted. Finishing it, I notice that the driver has pulled over to the curb and we are at my stop.
I pay him and get out, "Thanks for the ride." I shut the back and walk up to the building.
Opening the front door, I wait for a second while I grab my key to the elevator. I turn around when I hear a crash behind me. Someone had dropped something on the street corner and they are picking it up. I shut the door and make my way to the elevator.
Inside my apartment, I kick off my shoes and collapse on the couch with my dinner. After eating, I fall asleep and have strange dreams all night long.
After taking a brief shower, I throw on a pair of jeans and a comfortable sweater before rejoining Samantha. Walking out, I over hear her on the phone, "Yes, that is perfect. We will be there in about two hours."I waltz out and sit down on the couch next to her, "What was that all about?""I just set up our weekend getaway. Today and tomorrow we are going to party hardy in New York City, so go pack a bag and I will meet you back here in about a half an hour. Make sure you bring a swim suit and the hottest outfit you have for the night clubs. Speaking of that, I need to run and grab a couple things from my place. Love ya." She gets up and lets herself out. What did I just get into? I find myself wondering before I rush to pack some things for the trip.Samantha has always been the type who goes off and just does whatever the hell she wants, when she wants. Her parents are well t
Hearing a siren from down at the street level, I wake up and get dressed. Looking out the bedroom window, I notice an accident just outside of my apartment building. It looks like a taxi hit a pedestrian. "Oh well, I guess they will look where they are going next time." After slipping on my gym shoes, I go down stairs to workout. Usually there are quite a few people here, but this morning no one is around. I work out in the eerie quiet and remember how busy it usually is. Matter of fact, at one point in time I had thought about getting a home gym put in my penthouse, but I don't like the clutter. When I'm done with my workout, I come back upstairs to take a shower and after I get dressed I find a yogurt in the fridge for breakfast. That reminds me, I need to get some groceries today. On that, I remember my mental note from yesterday about running by GNC and picking up some protein powder.
We find a nice place to eat and then for the rest of the afternoon we go shopping. When it gets dinner time, we grab a bite to eat at a sub shop down the street from the hotel. Afterwards, we go back to our suites and deposit our treasures from the day. Samantha bought me a whole new wardrobe today, I will owe her for a long time. At least, till I figure out a way of repaying her somehow. Although, at this rate, it will be awhile. Putting my things away and freshening up, I splash a little perfume on and make sure that my mascara hasn't smudged. While I apply a thin pink gloss on my lips, I daydream about Mr. Perfect. The stranger. After a few minutes, I hear Samantha knocking at the door and we leave for the night club. The minute we step out the doors of the hotel, we hear a whistle from the road and turn to see who it is. A couple men oggle us from a passing taxi and wave. We wave back and t
I yawn and stretch as I get off the couch and go to the fridge for something to make for dinner. That was a good movie, but I'm usually more of a horror type of guy. I love my slasher films, especially the older 80's ones. They just don't make movies like that anymore. Picking out all the stuff I need to make lasagna, I whip it all together and stick it in the oven. After setting the temperature, I take note of the time and remind myself that in an hour I have to take it out to cool. My stomach starts growling, so I take a bag of baked chips out of the pantry and a cup of coffee over to the couch. Turning on the news, I watch as the reporter talks about a shooting in China Town. The weather comes on next and I turn it off after finding out the weather for Sunday. I look at the time and realize that the lasagna should be about done. Getting up, I go to the kitchen and the aroma instantly hits me. Yep,
When we are finished eating, we make our way back to the hotel, looking through all the different stores and Samantha buys a handful of things. Just before we arrive at the entrance, I look up to see that it's about to storm."I guess we will either have to stay in the rest of the afternoon or find somewhere that has everything inside. I don't want to get stuck out in a storm." Hurrying in the door, I almost run into a tall man in his fifties, who looks remarkably like a famous actor I admire. Double taking, I glance at him again just before he disappears outside."Hmm. That looked just like Rock Middleton. Did you see him?" I ask Samantha, but she is too busy staring at the hotty in front of us. He looks to be in his forties and has that domineering look about him, black hair and dark brown eyes.I elbow her in the side and finally draw her attention away from him. "What?" She says so
I spend the rest of the weekend preparing for work and contacting several associates regarding the impending expansion. Before relaxing and taking a load off for a few minutes, I thank Ms. DiAngelo for cleaning up my mess from the weekend and I give her monday off. She thanks me in return graciously and then leaves me to my own devices.Searching on the laptop for information regarding work, I happen to see an article about the night life of the city. Clicking on it, I zoom in."It can't be." I scratch my head and zoom in further to see the face.I let out a sigh, "Holy shit, it is."With closer inspection, I almost fall out of my chair. Next to the woman that lent me her phone is the little Asian thing I played with last night. In the photo adjacent to it, it's obvious that they are together. How did I miss her? I know damn well that she wasn't anywhere near her. I would have noticed or ra
I wake up with a crook in my neck from sleeping on the couch and Fluffy is licking my face. Giving her a big hug, I get up and go to the bathroom. Returning to the living room, I hear my phone ringing. I search everywhere for it, but when I sit down on the couch I feel it underneath me.I look at the screen and it's flashing Samantha's profile. Answering, I wait a second and then say something. "What's up?"Silence on the other end, then I hear a crunching sound. A few more seconds pass by with more crunching and then she finally says something. "Sorry, was eating."I roll my eyes, "No, really?""So. Did you see our pics all over the internet?""What do you mean?"I hear her drinking something, "Well, check out The High Life website. We are on their front page, I shit you not.""Hold on, let me look it up on my phone." I get onto the search
On thursday after several days of non stop harassment from Jake, I finally decide to take things into my own hands. Walking into his office, I scan the room for him and all I see is his computer open and turned on. I wonder where he is, so I sit down patiently waiting for him. Fifteen minutes rolls by and he is nowhere to be found.Eileen walks in and notifies me that Jake won't be able to make it to the meeting. It turns out that he got held up in traffic downtown and won't be back for who knows how long. I get up and walk out, but just as I'm about to get in the elevator, he calls my name."You do realize that I was sitting in the other room the whole time. I wanted to see how long you would wait for me, before you got up and left." He pats me on the back and motions for me to walk into his office. He really has no clue how many times I have wanted to beat the shit out of him, but didn't.
